At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

M&S cheese and celery sandwiches.

I can’t eat bread anymore, but I’d risk it for one of those.

Credenhill22 · 06/01/2022 21:32

Walls vanilla ice cream...it was small and rectangular shape I think....also cabanas....chocolate with coconut inside

Thomasina79 · 06/01/2022 21:32

School gypsy tart! Best pudding ever

@MistyGreenAndBlue
YES!! The Little Chef pancakes!!
I tried to recreate these at home using shop bought pancakes and cherry pie filling from a tin. Alas, tinned cherry pie filling is now on the decline too*
Pack-a-pie pie fillings were wonderful; fruit puree re-shaped into fruit. The cherries and apricots were wonderful.

I always comment on these threads with coconut toffee crisps!

I've also seen toast toppers in b&m or similar.

GrandTheftWalrus · 07/01/2022 00:52

Also I'm sure I saw Highland toffee bars in my local shop the other day.

Blancmange.
Sherbert with a bit of liquorice to dip in it.
Scampi fries.
Wagon Wheels (they're not the same now).
"Big Red" hot cinnamon chewing gum.
Snowballs — kind of like like tea cakes but rolled in coconut on the outside.

Bitza Pizza crisps in the 80's!
Tutti Frutti ice cream

chineybumps · 07/01/2022 04:49

I'm sure someone's mentioned it already but I LOVED caramel tart which they used to serve in primary school!

Is that the same as butterscotch tart. I saw it in a small bakery about ten years ago when on holiday and of course needed to sample it. Was delicious the bakery sadly isn’t close to where I live

I loved Findas French bread pizza it seemed to sophisticated as did Pizza Hut and Pizza Land where you could get 1/2 a pizza and a jacket potato meal

Does anyone remember spangles? It was like eating glass.

Nottogetapenny · 07/01/2022 16:35

Yes, I remember Spankles, the blackcurrant one was my favourite!

Piglet89 · 07/01/2022 16:54

If you sucked them hard enough, you ended up with a hole in the middle.
Mrsjayy · 07/01/2022 18:24

I choked on a spangle slid down and lodged Shock

Starbonnet123 · 07/01/2022 19:03

@whatth I remember them . My ex's sister has a summer job with the company that made them putting the lemon bead into the packets

Malibuismysecrethome · 08/01/2022 07:30

Everest lollies

cleaning247 · 08/01/2022 07:37

Gino ginelli pizza and their mint choc chip ice cream. I'm still grieving.

HarlanPepper · 08/01/2022 07:40

Frozen chocolate fudge cake - with the corrugated casing that you could scrape the buttercream out of when the cake was finished. Can't remember who made it.

HarlanPepper · 08/01/2022 07:40

Sara Lee!

No one has mentioned tinned vegetable salad ( have read most of the thread as it’s been a trip down foodie lane) . We had it once a year, at Christmas when we had visitors over for a salad tea. Salad at Christmas in the 70s was a treat! Vegetable salad was a mixture of veg such as peas, carrots and green beans in salad cream and I loved it.

That was Heinz. Someone mentioned it upthread. They also did potato salad.

Loved the mint choc chip ice cream, never found anything that compares.

cobblers123 · 08/01/2022 09:30

It was me that mentioned tinned vegetable and potato salad way back up thread.

I would love to still be able to buy it, those tins made my Sunday afternoon tea when I was about 10. Smile

NinaDefoe · 08/01/2022 14:17

Really basic 'value' potato salad at supermarkets tastes like the heinz tinned stuff! Tesco basic range or somewhere like Iceland.
Small cubes of mushy potato with just a bit too much vinegar in the mayo! Grin Lovely.
