At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

Cheeseburger Quarterback crisps in the early 90s

longwayoff · 04/01/2022 16:10

Ah. Just considering whether or not to have Sandwich Spread on toast for tea. Hmm. Just one slice.

longwayoff · 04/01/2022 16:12

And I've not had a cheese puff but Marks had some cheddar profiteroles in for Christmas. They were absolutely spot on. Crisp soft, cheesy. Yum.

Newestname002 · 04/01/2022 16:16

The jam roly poly and custard we used to get at school. Or any of the tray bake desserts/cakes - also with custard. Yum! 🌹

I used to love ‘white ice cream’, it wasn’t like vanilla ice cream, I just remember it was a pure white colour and can in a big tub. Plus I loved the ice cream lolly that was covered in real raspberry bits. The core was vanilla ice cream and the raspberry bits were in a lovely sort of jelly.

Nottogetapenny · 04/01/2022 19:43

Chipmunk crisps delicious, they were beefy and tasted much better than beef crisps now!

Holothane · 04/01/2022 23:54

Chocolate mint Angel Delight, haven't seen it for years and was my favourite flavour. Would love that to come back.

Also Vespa/vesta (can't remember) ready meals. The curry had what were essentially Quavers sprinkled on top. Loved them.
Loved Vesta curries. Also banana Angel delight with tinned pears. The peach one was a close second. My dm used to shop at a independent supermarket occasionally as it was a good distance away and only when shopping in the city we would have called here on the way home. She bought this tinned risotto which I loved but have no idea what it was called. She also bought tins of Ravioli (not Heinz) very daring for the early seventies which were very tasty.
Benjispruce5 · 05/01/2022 20:07

Ahhhh peach Angel delight!!! I can taste it now.
DM let me try a Vesta chow mein once in late 70s. I was about 7/8 and thought it was amazing. I remembered she had to fry the noodles and they puffed up. I was in awe!Grin

Benjispruce5 · 05/01/2022 20:08

Yea they were like Quavers on the top!!

Cakes from our local bakers when I was a kid, rum flavoured truffle thing. It was chocolate and rum flavoured, soft and squidgy, covered in chocolate sprinkles. Haven’t seen them in years.
I remember these! Greggs used to do them at Christmas, they were delicious!

Also the Vesta curry and rice, much nicer before they added peas and carrots to it.

I know exactly what you mean. Growing up in Yorkshire it was Ebor Ice-cream & there was a Devon version too. Maccies Ice-cream is almost identical to the white creams I knew as a kid. Sadly I haven't seen any to buy since the first lockdown Sad

Nottogetapenny · 05/01/2022 21:06

Milk Tray, chocolates in a bar! Remember lime cordial chocolate, it was in a barrel shape and tasted so nice.

I remember this too, my friend tells me it's still available in Ireland or was until a few years ago as she used to bring it back for me on her visits, before she moved back. I loved that stuff

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/01/2022 21:11

@rc22

Angel Delight Wham bars Highland toffee - can you still buy that north of the border? Has it just disappeared here in England? Ice magic - chocolate sauce that you put on your ice cream that then set
Highland Toffee bars are sadly no longer produced. The world is a worse place... 😭
SingleHandSue · 05/01/2022 21:31

My Saturday nights growing up used to consist of watching Noel’s house party with a Findus French bread pizza and an individual garlic bread. Tesco used to sell bags of these little mini garlic breads that I remember were the same length as the pizza.

They were loads more garlicky than garlic bread is now I swear.
