At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

My school sold jubblies at break

NinaDefoe · 03/01/2022 16:29

Home Bargains, B&M, Poundstretcher, Poundland sell all kinds of long lost delicacies! 😂

My favourite find recently was long life sliced potato and bacon - They come in boxes and foil pouches.
The same potatoes they fry up and sell at the German Christmas markets!

Sainsburys and Waitrose sell similar-called bacon brunch.

@cobblers123

Heinz tins of vegetable salad and potato salad. Absolutely my favourite part of Sunday afternoon teatime.
Ah so they did exist then! No one seems to remember them and I was beginning to think I'd imagined eating them as a child
cobblers123 · 03/01/2022 16:45

Yes they did indeed HopingForMyRainbowBaby, unfortunately they only did small tins and there was usually five of us for Sunday tea! I hated only having a fork full of both, I could have easily eaten the whole tin. Lovely stuff. Grin

DM used to make lemon meringue pie from a "kit" when we were kids. The lemon bit was made from a kind of yellow bean that melted down into a curd. I think you had to add water or milk. I remember watching the bean dissolve in the pan. Does anyone else remember this?
God yes, my mum would make this every week, that bean thing was proper weird. We also used to have a packet cheesecake that you made up that had a red fruit topping in a sachet....I absolutely loved it
thickthighs73 · 03/01/2022 17:30

From the early 80s and think
they were called Rissoles and the other one was called Bruchie or something they were round like wagon wheels. One had like an egg bacon mixture in. They were in the freezer by the crispy pancakes. No one seems to remember them

OrangeVelour · 03/01/2022 17:41

Spooks biscuits. They had different colours for different monsters ~ me and my sister used to fight over the Lilac Loonies.

Both of these are still available-they're made by Greens.
Naimee87 Heinz did tinned puddings in a variety of flavours.

@Pirrip1

Bright orange processed cheese slices - I think they now have to be marketed as “cheese flavoured slices” due to the lack of actual cheese Grin

I would add minced beef Findus Crispy Pancakes but I bought some randomly for nostalgia purposes recently and they were a bit rubbish.

My grandchildren insist that orange processed cheese slices are the only type for burgers, most unhappy when I bought something different and more expensive.

I like a nice mature cheddar or alternatively Brie or blue cheese on a burger however on a breakfast muffin it absolutely must be a 'cheese style slice' of the plastic orange variety 😆

Lidl multi vitamin ice Lolly's oh how I miss them, they were lovely with the best ice lolly texture

velvetvixen · 03/01/2022 18:22

The rissoles I remember from late 60s/early70s were 'meat' and pearl barley. They had a very distinctive savoury flavour.

MostTacticalNameChange · 03/01/2022 18:27

@smellooo

Fiendish feet and a frozen potato thing that was a hula hoop (and branded by hula hoop)
Fiendish feet- yes...did they have a syrup or something underneath the yoghurt to look like blood? Gorgeous.

'French set' yoghurts in general are rare nowadays.

liveforsummer · 03/01/2022 18:34

Goodness yes, loved a set yogurt. When and where did they go?

Exhausteddog · 03/01/2022 19:13

I think they have a point...Blush
...but I wouldn't use plastic cheese for anything else. Ever. It only belongs on a burger.

I can remember brunchies , our chippy used to do their version - sausage meat around chopped egg
PennyPinkPineapple · 03/01/2022 20:03

Worcester sauce flavour Twiglets

CanIbeRio · 03/01/2022 20:10

Iceland used to do a tutti frutti ice cream in the early 90s it was divine. M&S prawn and spring onion spring rolls were to die for. Anyone remember Lyons cupcakes with really thick icing in lemon and orange flavour?

Vampirethriller · 03/01/2022 21:40

@NinaDefoe I loved those bubblegums in the picture! I used to buy five on my way to school and make them last all day.
I really miss Worcester sauce twiglets. They were my treat at the weekend with a bottle of Hooch with the big lemon on the label!
