At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

@ShinyNewToy

Does anyone remember this chocolate bar, it was chocolate on the bottom.. Mousse in the middle.. And the top was like chocolate that had been drizzled to make a crisp chocolate cage.. Bit like they do with sugar to put on top of posh deserts? I'm my memory it had a pink and blue wrapper, but that could be rubbish. Only ever had one, but it was so good I still remember it!

I miss coffee Matchmakers. Every time I see them in a shop I look to see if the coffee ones are back. They do salted caramel ones but they are too sweet for me.

Also more recently, KitKat did a mocha flavour limited edition one, It's the only KitKat I like, would love that to come out again.

Jelly Malĺow bars were a big favourite when I was about 10, think they did orange, raspberry and lime flavours. Two bars in a pack. My nan used to buy them for us and also Toffee Cup bars. Where the hell did they go?

Does anyone remember a pink strawberry custard type dessert that came in a can....think it was called Sweetheart and i think it was by Heinz. Probably early 70s. Loved it....Probably as much for its colour as its taste as I was obsessed by all things pink and girly!

beautifullymad · 03/01/2022 13:34

Findus crispy pancakes inside a soft white bap. Carb overload and I loved it!

LizzyELane · 03/01/2022 13:34

Sandwich spread is in my fridge right now, very available if anyone's never tried it, and a staple for 80s school packed lunches. You just had to ignore 'oh Lizzy's got sick sandwiches'!!

Still crave a Vesta beef curry that contained sultanas although I've been vegetarian for a long time.

Lord Toffington ice lollies (fudgey centre hidden inside toffee ice cream.

Blobs sweets, boiled sweets with chewy or sherbetty centres. Strawberry and cream were gorgeous. And Spangles, especially the Old English tube.

Football Crazy bacon flavour corn snacks, cost 2.5p!

But the one that always mystifies me is a UK packet pudding no-one's ever heard of and I can't find on Google. It was an Angel Delight style powder but far nicer, with tangy yogurt flavours, like peach and cherry. Would've been 70s/80s. Can ANYONE enlighten me and remember what it was called???

Fondus crispy pancakes! Heaven

Chilllichutneyandcheese · 03/01/2022 13:39

Findus!

I have fond memories of iced gems but I tried them again a few years ago and they were awful - dry and only slightly sweet. But I guess in the 60s there wasn't the variety we have now! I also loved the chocolate covered cornflakes and rice krispies that came like a flat pie cut into triangles - I know you can get the chocolate cornflake clusters but not the same.
Walnut whips that didn't look as if they came out of a mold and I swear had a walnut inside at the bottom as well as on top?

DwangelaForever · 03/01/2022 13:48

Were cheese puffs like jambons without the ham

lhirault · 03/01/2022 13:49

Fisher and Donaldsons in Fife sell macaroni cheese pies. I always get one when visiting. Along with their legendary fudge doughnuts!
Other Scottish food memories include butteries, stovies and haggis suppers from the chippy (Scottish uni, early 80s - the halls of residence food was surprisingly good!)

LizzyELane:

Could it have been Instant Whip by Birds?

bendmeoverbackwards · 03/01/2022 14:20

@cobblers123 I LOVED coffee matchmakers. The sticks were much shorter and came in a long slim box that looked quite glamorous.

My favourite cereal in the 70s/80s was Puffa Puffa Rice. They were rice krispy shaped but with a softer texture.

Also - no-one ever remembers these - Chinese Spare Rib flavoured crisps. Sold in our school tuck shop late 80s. They came in a very smart looking black packet. Anyone remember these?

irene9 · 03/01/2022 14:33

There was 'orange juice' which was made from a powder from a sachet. We had it on Sunday mornings. Called Appeal or sunshine something...

Yes, I remember whips with the walnut inside.
Malibuismysecrethome · 03/01/2022 14:41

Frozen Florida orange juice that you diluted with water. Tree Top orange squash.

Jasmine00 · 03/01/2022 14:54

@BrightYellowDaffodil

Heinz sandwich spread. I mean, it looked like vomit but it tasted amazing.
I have some in my fridge now Grin
Jasmine00 · 03/01/2022 14:56

Findus crispy pancakes
Anyone remember when Mars bars did the half white half dark versions?

NoraEphronsTurkeyNeck · 03/01/2022 14:58

@EmmaH2022

There was something called supermousse when I was little. I think it was stored in the freezer. No one seems to remember it. I think we had it once or twice, I loved it, my dad looked at the E numbers and decided not to buy it again!
I came on here to say supermousses! Food of the gods and nothing came close Grin
Darker · 03/01/2022 15:14

Funny faces ice cream…

cobblers123 · 03/01/2022 15:25

Jubbly, orange juice in a triangular shaped waxed carton if I remember correctly. I didn't like them but lots of kids bought them on the way home from school including my brother.

Tigerstripe20 · 03/01/2022 15:40

It seems Poundstretcher is the wormhole many of these products fell into!
On the back of this thread I may have bought a Vesta beef curry from there today( the look on DH face was worth it )
They also had the Chow mein, Red Mountain Coffee, Greens mixes, Bird's Trifle mix and dream topping.
Space raiders and tomato snaps are sold in our local premier stores.
Unfortunately no Texan or mint cracknel bars anywhere though:(
And a macaroni pie sounds amazing.

You still get them, they are usually frozen as ice lollies
