At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

@MistyGreenAndBlue
YES!! The Little Chef pancakes!!
I tried to recreate these at home using shop bought pancakes and cherry pie filling from a tin. Alas, tinned cherry pie filling is now on the decline too

alienalan · 03/01/2022 12:03

I
Remember super-mousse

Angel delight

Findus Crispy pancakes: the cheese filling was always hotter than hell and stripped the skin from The roof of moutby

Our school would serve egg and cheese once a week. Hard boiled eggs and grated cheddar. Mixed together as a side dish

Going to my Nan's house and having a Fray Bentos with a side of Smash. 😳🤤

I found Mr. Brain's Faggots in Aldi - they were horrible & not as I remember them.
The texture was slimy - no chewing required.

I'm certain greggs in Edinburgh still sell macaroni pies. Will go and do some market research later and report back. Will now be very disappointed if not 😆

I’m from Edinburgh and I still remember my hungover horror when I was told they had scrapped the macaroni pie. I live in Glasgow now but I haven’t seen one anywhere in years 😭

Anyone remember brownies from the bakery counter in Waitrose in the 80s? They came in chocolate or coffee flavour, packed with nuts and had a lovely thick layer of icing on the top.

bendmeoverbackwards · 03/01/2022 12:25

Tree top orange or lemon squash

liveforsummer · 03/01/2022 12:25

You can definitely get them in other bakers - and in Morrison's

I haven’t been in a Morrison’s since they discontinued their apple filled doughnuts. As you can probably tell, I hold a lot of food grudges Blush

My mum used to serve us pastry mutton pies with gravy. Can’t remember where she bought them.

Winniewonka · 03/01/2022 12:31

@Whatth - as a PP has said, they were made by Green's. Morrisons still sell them but I don't think they have the little capsule that used to dissolve.
My late MIL used to make lemon meringue pie by this method. She would bake her own pastry case, use both packets of lemon mix and top with freshly made meringue. She would always serve it hot, it was absolutely delicious.

Howyoualldoworkme · 03/01/2022 12:37

Greens have got all sorts of retro delights. I made a sponge fruit flan with Quick Gel and a lemon meringue pie this Christmas. No lemon oil capsule though Sad
They also have the cheesecake mix

Does anyone remember this chocolate bar, it was chocolate on the bottom.. Mousse in the middle.. And the top was like chocolate that had been drizzled to make a crisp chocolate cage.. Bit like they do with sugar to put on top of posh deserts? I'm my memory it had a pink and blue wrapper, but that could be rubbish. Only ever had one, but it was so good I still remember it!

Benjispruce5 · 03/01/2022 12:39

Ah it was Greens cheesecake not a Sara Lee.

TheVolturi · 03/01/2022 12:41

Pot noodles back when they were full of e numbers, they were amazing. Can't really compare them now!

GiltEdges · 03/01/2022 12:42

Heinz baked bean pizza
School marble sponge and chocolate custard

I remember the Sundella Caribbean Crush & miss that too, it was lovely @MostTacticalNameChange

School food for me was vile, I have no good memories of it at all🤢

I miss spangles, especially butterscotch spangles, nothing has tasted as good since 🥺

Sarah Lee Choc gateaux was a favourite here too so much so that 15 of them all to myself was top of my Xmas list as a young teen. I defrosted & ate 4 before Xmas dinner & was sick as a pig, kind of went off them a bit after that 😂

Highland toffee & mushroom crispy pancakes were missed too, though I doubt the pancakes are as good as I remember

CowMarshland · 03/01/2022 12:49

Trifle, love it
Black Forest gateaux and rum baba not had either for years

Spidey66 · 03/01/2022 12:49

Angel Delight
Spam fritters (yuck!)
Tinned fruit salad and carnation milk
Chocolate sponge and chocolate custard (at school)
