Aibu to not like drag Queens?

And why don’t I? To me there is something intimidating and scary in the make up, and harsh glamour, parodied until it’s ugly and I think, aggressive. I remember going to drag shows long again in the 90s and they seemed to be a bit of fun and almost innocent compared to whatever it is about ru Paul et al. Nothing wrong with a bit of dame Edna from what I remember as a kid. What’s the reasoning behind this new style I wonder, and aibu?

Bet away. How much we betting?

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 21:43

I thought she was talking about strapping her tits into a carrier bag
🤣🤣 yea it was confusing for a second. Youd never know here. Tit bags might be the next big thing

AppleJane · 03/01/2022 21:44

Well if the cost of carrier bags keeps going up it'll be cheaper to buy a bra!

phishy · 03/01/2022 21:44

£1 Wink

AppleJane · 03/01/2022 21:45

Tit bag for life Grin

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 21:47

£1

Introducing....Miss O'gyny and the Tit bags, sponsored by Mumsnet.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/01/2022 21:50

Tit bag for life it is. And a baby hanging in for dear life there.

Maybe a drag queen could be persuaded to celebrate this particular form of femininity.

AppleJane · 03/01/2022 21:50

What's their theme tune?!

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 21:51

Kelis - Caught out there.

@Soberiscoolnow

I get why you may not enjoy it, that’s up to you but I’m genuinely shocked and I mean SHOCKED that so many people find it “offensive”

I really think if you are that passionate about feminist issues, campaign for better maternity rights, childcare affordability, volunteer at a womens shelter

Don’t get so mad about someone prancing around in a skirt and lipstick to Britney!

Maybe you should look at why you're so shocked. Why have you been so closed minded to the opinions of a large number of women?

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:06

For those here that dont like drag and saying its wrong, are they not being close minded for not accepting the opinions of those women who do like it ?

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:07

Closed-minded*

MaryAndHerNet · 03/01/2022 22:17

For those here that do like drag and saying its fine, are you not questioning why you're happy to see a man behave in offensive ways towards women?

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:20

Its because I dont find drag offensive. But appreciate others do.

Not really, no. 'I'm not offended so it isn't misogynistic' isn't an argument anyone who sees drag as problematic is likely to accept.
Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:21

Okeydokey.

MaryAndHerNet · 03/01/2022 22:31

Its because I dont find drag offensive.

That's what you should be questioning.
Or, put it another way..

If someone pretended to be physically disabled for laughs?
If someone pretended to be mentally handicapped for laughs?
So on and so on.

If you're fine having men pretend to be women for laughs, you can't really have an issue with anyone pretending to be what they're not... As long as it's for laughs..

jellyfrizz · 03/01/2022 22:37

And there are AFAB (assigned female at birth) queens to!?!? What have you got to say about them

Oh, must be totally fine then. Like Lenny Henry doing the Black & White minstrel show: www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/lenny-henry-blackface-minstrel-b1935337.html

OhWhyNot · 03/01/2022 22:38

We have had in many films actors acting as though they have a disability or mental health issue to create a laugh or create drama

Would I find a whole act (as in their are acting) based on this no because this would be mocking difficulties people face in their life daily.

I don’t face daily difficulties becuae I am a women i do at times face difficulties because of society and some people’s attitudes

MaryAndHerNet · 03/01/2022 22:38

Let's lost.all.thebthinfs that would be problematic.to take the piss out of someone for.

Being trans.. big fucking no no..
Being black.. that's illegal.
Being gay..
Being fat..
Being blind..
Being deaf..
Being in a wheelchair..
Being mentally handicapped..
Being on the autism spectrum..

Let's make a list of all the things that you can take the piss out of and get a national TV station to make a program promoting men doing so..

Being a woman..

🤔

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:40

You cant make that be true for me . I simply don't think that way.

I think differently from you on the subject of drag.

Franca123 · 03/01/2022 22:41

Why is there not a TV show where women dress up as ridiculous men and talk about cock cheese?

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:42

I dont see drag as 'making fun of women for starters' .

Soberiscoolnow · 03/01/2022 22:49

Id watch it. They could set it in cathedral city

They do actually the piss out of men too

I’ve seen them dressed as dragged up builders doing hilarious “OI LUV” scenarios. It can be quite self deprecating and a poke at the idea of tox masc

Should I be worried they are insulting labourers?
