Suzzie101 · 30/12/2021 13:24

hi! New to this all but I started a new claim for my daughter and it was received and stamped on 30th October, reaching 9 weeks and no response as of yet, any ideas of the waiting time ?

@hollydoyle thank you.

@Robyn81 - mine was received on the 25th October and is being looked at now, but PP have said they are on forms dated 18th October/23rd October.

@NameChanged15729 - re: time. I think that depends on each case- the amount of info sent, how complex the issue is, how common the issue is (as the case handlers may already have a level of understanding).

There is probably a time length that the case handlers are working to, as otherwise they could take months and months to do one claim, but I don’t think that is info they would share- just in case it takes longer and they are held to that deadline. We just have to wait (eeek)- it’s nice to chat to people in the same situation, even if it is to say ‘no news yet’

NameChanged15729 · 10/01/2022 13:37

Hello Robyn81
I’m not sure if that question was for me but if it was my form was apparently received 26th October. I’m confused about this though because on the letter I received a while back it said received mid November.

xxAmy everything I’ve seen online seems to suggest it was different years ago as well. People sending the forms and getting a decision back the same month! It seems unimaginable that would be the case now.

tangledzebra thank you! I’m glad that it probably won’t be months and months Shock
I’m already on tenterhooks as it is! It’s a horrible feeling, knowing it’s being looked at and possibly picked apart and not being able to do anything about it.

Pugsnotdrugs101 · 10/01/2022 14:05

I called this morn and said they are working on claims around the date mine was recieved (18th oct), mine has been with a decision maker since 30th dec so said I should hear any day now!

Robyn81 · 10/01/2022 14:08

OK I don't know who to do the tagging thing.. 🤣 but my question was for Namechanged but both answers were helpful. My dd's form was received on the 27th so hopefully there will be some movement on it this week, I have horrible anxiety and dyspraxia and this is testing my coping and organisational skills or lack there of.. honestly reading thru this forum really does help as I don't feel like I'm going mad because I'm so worried and frustrated.

So, if this is helpful to anyone. Had my assessment on Thursday (I think), I’ve just had a call to clarify bank details and was told a decision would be made today or tomorrow…

When I had my assessment they told me that it would be a three month wait they thought.

xxAmy · 10/01/2022 17:10

@Urthie is that for PIP or DLA?

Urthie · 10/01/2022 17:12

Sorry that’s for PIP.

Pugsnotdrugs101 · 10/01/2022 17:24

@Urthie best of luck! When I had my pip I got it in my account before I even had a letter. Nearly had a heart attack when I checked my bank one night and had a couple thousand pounds in there! So keep an eye on your account as it seems In alot of cases you get money before a letter. From when I called up to get the pip form to when the money went in was exactly 16 weeks x

Urthie · 10/01/2022 17:28

Oh thank you, I will do - I’m on forty weeks now I think. The lady I spoke to was only checking the account or if I needed to ask someone else to take any payment (GP wrote I was vulnerable to fraud / financial abuse)

Is it always paid on the first or is it paid on different dates for different people?

Lougle · 10/01/2022 17:43

The payment date is different for each claimant. You normally get a letter saying 'we'll pay you x amount in back pay on date a, then y amount on date b and every 4 weeks after this.'

The payments never go in over the weekend (bizarrely, Carer's allowance always goes in on a Saturday for me, but that's an exception) so if you are due a payment on a bank holiday or a weekend, it will be paid the Friday before that.

How did you find the assessment, Urthie? I am hoping that DD1 may be done on paper as she has so much recent paperwork, but it's good to know how it is if she does get called forward.
KisstheTeapot14 · 10/01/2022 17:48

@Wecando

It took nearly five months to get awarded mine. You also have an interview with an assessor before they reach their final decision.
@Wecando

Really? Never heard this before for DLA - for a child under 16?

Pugsnotdrugs101 · 10/01/2022 18:00

@KisstheTeapot14 I’ve never heard of anyone under 16 having an assessment either!

Urthie · 10/01/2022 18:04

I thought the assessment was Ok, but the lady doing it didn’t have my form or evidence - or other peoples evidence, she just had a GP report.

She was very nice and seemed to understand quite a complex medical issue and how it affected me, plus she was good at understanding and framing questions towards mental health as well.

I haven’t actually seen the GP report so don’t know what was said but there was definitely clear examples (particularly re financial abuse) as these were asked about.

I was quite panicked but it went ok I think.

Urthie · 10/01/2022 18:09

Oh also - when the initial claim was made they put down I had communication difficulties As well and this made it more likely it would be paper based but actually they fluctuate so I did the assessment via a video call

Urthie · 10/01/2022 18:09

But definitely have multiple examples for each of the category things.

Pugsnotdrugs101 · 10/01/2022 18:11

I qualify!! I just had a text!! Not a clue what rate will ring them in the morning. I’m crying tears of relief x

Urthie · 10/01/2022 18:15

Wonderful pugs - Great news!

NameChanged15729 · 10/01/2022 18:16

I’m so glad to hear that pugsnotdrugs101! This situation is crazy making and I imagine the relief is amazing! Grin

xxAmy · 10/01/2022 18:28

@Pugsnotdrugs101 yes!!! Made up you finally finally heard back. You’ll sleep better tonight ❤️

KisstheTeapot14 · 10/01/2022 18:28

@Pugsnotdrugs101 I felt the same. So glad for you!

I Had sent an inch worth of paperwork for DS and it took a month to put it all together. So happy I don't have to do it annually - 24 months is almost enough to recover in time to do it again :)

Pugsnotdrugs101 · 10/01/2022 18:50

Thank you guys, I’m so pleased. I can go private now and get my daughter the help she needs. Wonder how long it will take to get the back payment, I’m dying to know what rate she gets! Fingers crossed for you all x

KisstheTeapot14 · 10/01/2022 19:04

Yes - its the freedom it gives you that is wonderful.

We are thinking about private speech and language and OT sessions which would be out of reach for us without DLA. Not dissing the NHS but they only have so much time to give (more and more squeezed) so having options to help a child with extra needs is like manna from heaven.

tangledzebra · 10/01/2022 19:31

@Pugsnotdrugs101

Yay, well done. That’s such a relief and a weight off your mind. What did the text say? Does it just say you are eligible but you have to call them or wait for the letter to get the rate?

tangledzebra · 10/01/2022 19:33

@Pugsnotdrugs101 … sorry 🤦‍♀️ Can see that you said that you will call them tomorrow to find out the rate. 🤗
