@Jodelious

Just an update for dates. My sons claim received 31st December, text received today stating he qualifies for DLA. That would be 10 weeks tomorrow x
I called today for the 31st December claim and apparently they will look at it over weekend.

I'm so so nervous

May I asked what you claimed for.

Can’t believe it takes so long Shock I only applied ten days ago. DC and I have left an abusive situation and only have my part time wage. Between UC and DLA we will scrape by but there’s such a long wait… heating off and skipping meals in the meantime Sad

Jodelious · 10/03/2022 17:46

Hi, no phone calls for further info.
I only sent his diagnosis report, gave contact details of the professionals involved. School contact with name of behaviour support worker. Don’t know if they contacted school.
I sent a lot of photographs of his many minor injuries and accident slips from school too. I never approached GP regarding his presentation, all dealt with through school and CAMHS X

Imitatingdory · 10/03/2022 18:32

Thisisscary have you applied for any grants you are eligible for? Ask for a referral to a food bank, some can give fuel vouchers too. Are you in contact with social care? Contact you energy company too, they can sometimes help.

Leanne21unicorn · 10/03/2022 18:40

I rang they said to expect a text In the next couple of days , she said there’s Light at the end of the tunnel don’t no what she meant by that . But she said with case manager .

thisisscary · 10/03/2022 20:51

@Imitatingdory I’m not entitled to any grants. There’s a community run food bank in town that I might end up at if I run short for DC. I can manage without lunch for a bit. I put the heating on in the evening for DC to be warm and I’ve got a blanket and hot water bottle for when I’m wfh in the daytime. Keep telling myself it’s only for a few weeks (months?!) until UC and hopefully DLA kick in to top up my wage.

Imitatingdory · 10/03/2022 22:42

thisisscary are you sure you aren’t eligible for any grants? For example Emergency Essentials. Or a carer’s grant. Or Family Fund or Buttle Trust although they take longer to get they are still worth applying for. There’s others too depending on needs.

If you rent you could look at discretionary housing payments.

Raychel1989 · 11/03/2022 12:43

We did our change of circumstances back in nov 2021 will be 18 weeks Monday rang and spoke to them just now and still not with a decision maker

Ilovemychildren123 · 11/03/2022 16:39

Has anyone been accepted for DLA with a 2 year old? We saw our paediatrician today all referrals made that need to be for a diagnosis but he said that DLA is such a grey area with someone so young - it hopeful of the outcome after that

Raychel1989 · 11/03/2022 16:52

My son was diagnosed at 2 years 1 month with non verbal autism and got approved dla at 2 and 4 months if that helps at all

Ilovemychildren123 · 11/03/2022 17:04

@Raychel1989 many thanks for your help, our son isn’t diagnosed yet but I have letters stating that he has Global Development Delay, he is non verbal and also has Hypermobility also outlines that he is under assessment for autism I’ve applied just a waiting game just wasn’t sure after speaking to the Paediatrician today. Thank you for replying much appreciated xx

Amyxkx · 11/03/2022 18:58

I did she got MRC when she was 2, diagnosis at 3 then got HRC, they sent me a letter shortly before her 5th birthday to say she may be entitled to Mobility component as she was almost 5 to I’ve applied for that still waiting on decision 19 weeks today 😲 children under 5 with autism won’t receive Mobility component unless have health issues that prevent them from walking the mental side of it won’t be listened to until they are 5 xx

Imitatingdory · 11/03/2022 19:03

Amy that’s not necessarily the case. It is possible for DC with ASD to qualify for HRM under the SMI rules or the virtual unable to walk criteria, and therefore be eligible from 3.

YouJustDontKnow · 11/03/2022 19:06

We just waited 3.5 weeks I was shocked !

Ilovemychildren123 · 11/03/2022 19:37

@Amyxkx thank you for your reply much appreciated I hate the waiting and it’s only been 5 weeks almost 6.
Xx

Amyxkx · 12/03/2022 07:47

That was the reason I was given when I applied for her first COC in nov 2020, I didn’t challenge it as I’m not confident with benefit paper work as we have never done it until DLA, I’ve applied now that she’s 5 as they sent me a letter saying she may now be entitled, fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Amyxkx · 12/03/2022 07:48

Your welcome good luck x

Ilovemychildren123 · 12/03/2022 08:34

@Amyxkx good luck hope you get an answer soon xx

Imitatingdory · 12/03/2022 09:51

Amy I think you are confused because DC with ASD can receive HRM at 3. See Contact’s help sheet here. I think what DWP meant in DD’s case was they didn’t deem her eligible for HRM under the SMI rules or the virtually unable to walk criteria, and LRM which covers supervision doesn’t come into play until 5.
