Royal guard video kicking child in the way

DickMabutt73962 · 29/12/2021 23:23

I wasn't born and raised in the UK and am not into the culture of 'tradition' but I don't understand the majority of reactions to this video blaming the parent and saying of the guards 'it's their job'.

Can anyone more enlightened explain to me why this was necessary? As far as I can see the guard is marching, not saving London from attack. I don't see why a side-step wouldn't work. And if this is a register thing then maybe future control of how close members of the public are able to get in their path

@KeflavikAirport

Proper safety barriers would be my first port of call if they were serious about accessibility, and why wouldn't they be?

A sniper would have no trouble picking off soldiers trained never to break ranks, would they?

I think they would break ranks in the event of being shot at, but thank you for your keen military input.
Theflamingnerd · 30/12/2021 13:50

@liveforsummer

The RF or whoever it is that runs this tourist attraction needs to figure out what exactly it is. If security requires such draconian treatment of people who don't know what they bought tickets for either, then maybe don't run it as a theme park and only allow chaperoned groups in one at a time.

This would be an example though of a few people spoiling it for the many millions who manage perfectly well not to get on the way and simply use a bit of common sense and awareness. I now think you are one of the few who failed to read anything and are caught on a YouTube compilation somewhere?!

I'm starting to wonder if they're actually the child's parent at this point
mathanxiety · 30/12/2021 13:51

So what is it, @summertimerolls?

Is it a tourist attraction or a terrorist target?

This thread gets ever more silly

Quite fun though, in a wry sort of way Grin

As for "Maybe don't run it as a theme park", what was that I was saying about Disney infesting people's minds ...? Maybe they took the lyrics "If your heart is in your dream no request is too extreme" literally

loislovesstewie · 30/12/2021 13:52

I'm amazed that I have managed to survive without being chaperoned, (considering some of the risky things I've done). BTW 'chaperoned' makes it sound like normal people are delicate Victorians. We'll all be swooning next.

mathanxiety · 30/12/2021 13:52

I think they would break ranks in the event of being shot at, but thank you for your keen military input.

They'd still stick out like sore thumbs in that headgear though.

Pleasebeafleabite · 30/12/2021 13:53

So sad this thread is nearly at the end

@mathanxiety whether serious or otherwise I salute your entertainment value

Bingbangbongbash · 30/12/2021 13:54

@AuntyBumBum

And for those who keep on about "ticket holders", you don't need a ticket to watch the changing of the guard

You do at the Tower of London. It really is a paid piece of theatre for ticket holders, with no vulnerable members of the royal family within miles of place.

But plenty of extremely valuable jewels. The Queen’s Guard don’t just guard the Queen.
mathanxiety · 30/12/2021 13:54

You keep on trying to derail the thread, @JohnHuffam1812.

I'm not biting.

PMSL 🤣

EbonanzaScrooge · 30/12/2021 13:56

This happens a lot. ‘Tourists’ tend to stand in front of the soldiers when they are marching/changing the guard and they think the soldiers will stop and pose for their pictures. They don’t realise they are working and protecting the area and can not stop for any reason.

Pretty sure they are signs up saying please do not try and disrupt the guards but as usual people ignore it and become self entitled.

summertimerolls · 30/12/2021 13:57

@mathanxiety

So what is it, *@summertimerolls*?

Is it a tourist attraction or a terrorist target?

It’s a place tourists are welcomed into to see the Crown Jewels, the tower and observe the guards at work. It’s not a theme park.
JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 13:57

Not at all derailing.

Accurate criticism of your posts.

This is great.
I feel sorry for the guards having to put up with this shit all the time.

DistrustfulDinosaur · 30/12/2021 13:58

I'll ask you again, have you been drinking? It's surely the only explanation. I think there's a Youtube compilation of Math being repeatedly and brutally trampled by multiple Royal Guards. Seems like they've had a bad personal experience with them in the past!

Also, does it really need to be anyone's fault? It looks like the parents assumed the child would step out of the way in time and the Guard probably assumed the same due to the advanced repeated warnings (or the parents would pull the kid out of the way if needed). Chances are it will become a funny family anecdote rather than a deep seated trauma that the kid needs years of therapy to overcome. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

mathanxiety · 30/12/2021 13:59

These soldiers are trained like machines and they take their job beyond serious!

There's definitely no arguing with that.

NewYearNewBeer · 30/12/2021 13:59

It'll be a relief to see this thread to come to an end Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/12/2021 13:59

Brilliant video Grin Grin

loislovesstewie · 30/12/2021 14:00

It just has!

Honestly😂 I'm sure someone will start a new thread just so the conversation can continue!
KeflavikAirport · 30/12/2021 14:01

So this is a very rare occurrence that happens a lot. Children are potential terrorist decoys unless they are cute. Battle-hardened soldiers are ok to wear hats they can't see in. Well, this thread has certainly kept me entertained.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 30/12/2021 14:01

.

JessieZoo · 16/05/2024 19:33

The guards actions seem comparable to Auriol Grey refusing to move when someone vulnerable is in the way. Should be charged with common assault or battery. For using unnecessary physical force to shift someone out of the way, especially a child. The guard made no effort to alter his path to avoid colliding!

I could go out tomorrow and just start shoulder-barging into everyone because they are in my way, even though I have time to move out of the way. How dare they be in my line of path ?.

Its never acceptable using phyical force on someone else especially a child unless unless you didn't have to time to react and it was an accident. Unlawful egotistical use of force !.
