Royal guard video kicking child in the way

DickMabutt73962 · 29/12/2021 23:23

I wasn't born and raised in the UK and am not into the culture of 'tradition' but I don't understand the majority of reactions to this video blaming the parent and saying of the guards 'it's their job'.

Can anyone more enlightened explain to me why this was necessary? As far as I can see the guard is marching, not saving London from attack. I don't see why a side-step wouldn't work. And if this is a register thing then maybe future control of how close members of the public are able to get in their path

Producing shir arguments is often evdience that you are talking utter drivel math.

Allycott · 30/12/2021 13:02

@DickMabutt73962

There are some priceless pieces of regalia at the Tower which warrant the Queens Guards.

Yes, lest the ones that were 'acquired' during colonial rule try to find their way back

Aaaaaand there it is!
EvenTheReceptionStaffHaveLeft · 30/12/2021 13:02

An example of what happens if you treat one of these highly trained military personnel with respect….

FFS !!! I wonder how some people have managed to grow up without constant warnings! You have driven me to swearing and that is saying something ! Don't go to the countryside; you might get trampled by a cow, or fall into a ditch or get your shoes dirty, or lots of other things. Don't ride a bike you might fall off. Don't cross the road. Don't make a hot drink. In fact stay in bed just in case! Of course, you might just use common-sense.
The US is full of warnings just like this because of its litigious society. Perhaps that's why our American friends on this thread can't understand why there isn't a network of pathways surrounded by 12 foot fences for the guards to match on around the Tower, but rather that we try to be more grown up and treat the public as sensible adults to look after themselves, and their children.
CPL593H · 30/12/2021 13:03

Honestly, the hyperbole, anyone would think some people were describing Cossacks charging a crowd of starving workers c 1910.

I've watch that vid from several angles. The guard did NOT trample the child, it seems he was keeping his boots as high as possible. Unfortunate incident, no harm done and it would have been the same outcome if the soldier had been dressed as a Cromwellian musketeer or Mr Blobby, so I don't see the significance of the uniform thing other than to have a pop at "outdated traditions"

You forgot to add - look where you are going and don’t carry on walking if there’s something in your way.

Do you have a link to where you read that the family said the guard came back?[/quote]
I don't have a link to the tik tok but on the news paper reports an army spokesperson confirms it. You can read them they will be quoted in every paper without me going searching for links on your behalf

OhWhyNot · 30/12/2021 13:06

Where do you live mathanxiety ?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 30/12/2021 13:06

That is just bloody lovely @EvenTheReceptionStaffHaveLeft 😊

Lockheart · 30/12/2021 13:06

@mathanxiety

Visitors are advised to be respectful and stand clear when the guards are marching and performing their official duties.

Visitors who come from civilised countries have no warning whatsoever from the website that the Guards will be marching through crowds of people on unmarked routes, or that they are prepared and willing to march straight into people inadvertently in their way, bellowing as they approach.

Would these be the civilised countries where hundreds of children have been gunned down in schools and which has done nothing in response? Or the civilised countries where those who can't afford healthcare lose their homes and end up begging on the streets?

If so, I'll take the bolshy guard any day, thank you.

HereForThis · 30/12/2021 13:06

Very interesting to note that it's mostly the perfect parents with perfect children who've been making ad hominem attacks on not only the child, parents and family, but the posters who have different opinions.

I hope your perfect children aren't learning from you on how to maintain your composure and engage with people you disagree with or it will ruin their perfection streak. We can't have your little holy flowers making a single mistake because of online courage. The world needs them to teach others.

The US. Her remarks about civilised countries are incredibly ironic, given that.

@mathanxiety

Resorting to ad hominem attacks is often a sign that you have reread what you thought was the clincher but realised you have a shit argument on your hands, *@anon12345678901*.

You can check the videos for yourself showing startled tourists with their backs turned to the advancing Guards not knowing what's going on, or what way to turn. Older people quite often.

The victim in this case was a young child, and quite frankly, if people here are heartless enough to blame anyone but the Guard who could see someone was directly in front of him but chose to march on, I'm happy not to have plans to visit the UK again any time soon. .

Ahh we in the UK are so so happy to hear that. Please don't visit us.

Also it's not my argument that's shit, I pointed out what is written clearly on the website, you just apparently can't understand it. I checked with my child if he could understand what it means to keep clear, and he can, he's 11.

KeflavikAirport · 30/12/2021 13:07

@EvenTheReceptionStaffHaveLeft I hope that soldier was severely punished for deviating from routine for a second while national security, nay the very life of our beloved sovereign, was at stake. How did he know the child wasn't a terrorist decoy?

JabNotInArm · 30/12/2021 13:09

@mathanxiety If you have to put (hysterical) words into the mouths of those disagreeing with you then you have already lost the argument

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/12/2021 13:10

Where do you live mathanxiety ?

In a civilised country, presumably. Not like us, the barbarians.

liveforsummer · 30/12/2021 13:10

You forgot to add - look where you are going and don’t carry on walking if there’s something in your way

I've actually noticed lately how often people have absolutely no awareness of what's around them. I was in town the other week - less busy areas as I had my dog with me and i think that's what made me notice it more because she nearly got stood on multiple times along with being more aware of people in your space after 2 years of social distancing. The amount of people who who just step backwards without checking what's behind them. It happened countless times or suddenly veering to the side. People are so absorbed in their own worlds. When I'm in a busy area I'm paying attention and never walk in to anyone but so frequently getting out of the way of those who would if they more vigilant among us weren't paying attention. I can see how some of these would be utterly oblivious to marching soldiers. I find it quite bizarre though

JabNotInArm · 30/12/2021 13:11

@485bantuknots - it's not unnecessary. As explained in detail on this thread.

JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 13:11

She lives in the states.

Highest murder rate of any major industrialised nation.

So civilised.

OhWhyNot · 30/12/2021 13:11
Grin

Oh I should have guessed from their posts

loislovesstewie · 30/12/2021 13:11

Yeah, please don't visit until I have updated my house insurance in case I meet you, and we have an incident where you are trampled.

JabNotInArm · 30/12/2021 13:12

I'm no fan of the RF or the military but this is such a non story. The guy has had it drilled into him that he can't stop. He clearly checks his stride and he went back to check the kid was ok.Putting safety barriers out to prevent tourists getting in the way of people literally walking is absurd.

This

I think it’s pretty obvious from the breaking the video that he came back out having got permission from his CO. They may be trained killers but they are human when given permission 😉

PurpleCarpets · 30/12/2021 13:13

@driftcompatible

Sorry but I think it's a joke. It's all ceremonial nonsense. They aren't really protecting anything. All they do is march around for the pomp and circumstance of it all, under the delusion that there is a family appointed by god to rule us all.

It's idiotic.

This is an excellent summary!
WindyState · 30/12/2021 13:14

@mathanxiety

When they say "stand clear of the doors" on the tube, what do you think that means? It means if you don't stand clear the doors will shut on you. I'd say this is just as clear.

It is absolutely not stated that the Guards march on unmarked routes, straight through crowds, not necessarily in large formations, and that this requires you to have eyes in the back of your head and to hold hands with your children at all times.

The Tube is a different kettle of fish altogether. The doors are stuck on the train exactly where you expect them to be, not approaching you from any random angle barking orders far too late.

You realise that right before the guards come through the beefeaters walk the route, warning people and clearing the way?

The guards themselves are instructed not to break stride for anyone, they are permitted to shout warnings but that is it.

And it's not unreasonable for members of the general public in an area patrolled by armed guards to have a bit of awareness of their surroundings.
