Royal guard video kicking child in the way

1000 replies

DickMabutt73962 · 29/12/2021 23:23

I wasn't born and raised in the UK and am not into the culture of 'tradition' but I don't understand the majority of reactions to this video blaming the parent and saying of the guards 'it's their job'.

Can anyone more enlightened explain to me why this was necessary? As far as I can see the guard is marching, not saving London from attack. I don't see why a side-step wouldn't work. And if this is a register thing then maybe future control of how close members of the public are able to get in their path

I've seen compilations on YouTube where the Guards simply push adults very roughly, in one case a woman

Can you link to this? Because I bet I know which one you’re talking about, and it’s absurd what the woman is doing.

JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 13:23

There is a comparison with Arlington.

You are chatting shit.

Jijithecat · 30/12/2021 13:24

@mathanxiety

Visitors are advised to be respectful and stand clear when the guards are marching and performing their official duties.

Visitors who come from civilised countries have no warning whatsoever from the website that the Guards will be marching through crowds of people on unmarked routes, or that they are prepared and willing to march straight into people inadvertently in their way, bellowing as they approach.

If I'm in an unfamiliar situation, perhaps in a foreign country, be it civilised or otherwise, I tend to stand back until I get a better understanding of my surroundings rather than standing in the midst of it all. If you're the kind of person that likes to throw yourself straight into the action may I suggest you avoid Pamplona around July.
Iwouldlikesomecake · 30/12/2021 13:24

There are signs up everywhere at the Tower to say that the Guards are working soldiers... unless you ONLY looked at the website and then got there and refused to look at any signage or open your eyes or listen to anything you are told then it is bewildering that you would think that they are just there to stand. But I have worked with the public and had exchanges with people who just don't believe that thing will REALLY happen and then they are so shocked when it does:

"If you sit there, madam, you will get very very wet. The signage of 'soak zone' is there for a reason. Just checking youre ok with that"
"yeah we are fine we want to sit here"
(gets drenched)
"We are soaked! We are making a complaint!" ok then...

I've never seen military personnel be disrespected as much as they are in this country. You wouldn't go up to armed forces overseas and be so shitty to them as people are here regardless of your opinion of armed forces and if you're a 100% pacifist.

liveforsummer · 30/12/2021 13:24

@WonderfulYou

I don't have a link to the tik tok but on the news paper reports an army spokesperson confirms it. You can read them they will be quoted in every paper without me going searching for links on your behalf

@liveforsummer you said the family said they’d apologised and asked why would they lie, but I hadn’t seen that which is why I asked for a link as it’s not been confirmed by them.

I’m not saying it’s not true. But from the video the adult man is obviously in the wrong so it’s nice to see both sides if the video doesn’t show it.

and yes I said I don't have a link sorry nor can I be bothered to go searching for it as I'm not sure where to start. But as I said it's also been confirmed by a spokesperson. There might be a video but I'm not aware of it and I haven't heard any claims that there is one which is why I said what I did about it not necessarily being filmed

"Come from civilised countries"

Pahahahahah

mathanxiety · 30/12/2021 13:25

The irony of talking about civilised countries when you live in one of the least civilised places in the world seems to have bypassed you.

I'm happy to discuss America on another thread.

Let's talk about this particularly - you might even say quintessentially - British problem on this one.

Suzanne999 · 30/12/2021 13:25

There’s no kicking in the video. The child was in the path of the soldier who did his best to step over the child. The weapons are loaded, you don’t want a soldier sprawled on top of a child with a loaded weapon that could go off.
I take more responsibility for my dog than some people do for their children.

What problem?
Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/12/2021 13:26

Should I start a thread about the time I was at the Tower of London and saw a raven snatch a sandwich from a child's hand, at the same time nipping his cheek so the child had blood running down his face?

Definitely - you could then be told they should all be shot Wink

Though of course if the legend's true, that would mean the Tower would fall and there's no longer be anything to guard or march around
Which would solve the whole thing ...

WonderfulYou · 30/12/2021 13:26

Some of these replies are disgusting and it won’t be long before MNHQ remove the thread for the amount of xenophobic and misogynistic language used.

100% Anti-British poster here

The idea that if you're not with us you;re against us is another example of the authoritarian mindset.

A person can criticise blatantly and completely unnecessarily brutal treatment of a child without wishing for the destruction of the UK and everything it stands for, you know.

Are you STILL banging on with the hyperbolic shite

FFS. Have a break.

TheFairyCaravan · 30/12/2021 13:27

@mathanxiety

Resorting to ad hominem attacks is often a sign that you have reread what you thought was the clincher but realised you have a shit argument on your hands, *@anon12345678901*.

You can check the videos for yourself showing startled tourists with their backs turned to the advancing Guards not knowing what's going on, or what way to turn. Older people quite often.

The victim in this case was a young child, and quite frankly, if people here are heartless enough to blame anyone but the Guard who could see someone was directly in front of him but chose to march on, I'm happy not to have plans to visit the UK again any time soon. .

Good! Stay in the US where kids get shot in schools and Dept stores then! P

that your ridiculous uniform and all the marching about

No, your agenda goes very deep indeed.

loislovesstewie · 30/12/2021 13:28

@mathanxiety

I'm Irish, not American, *@WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps*.

And the UK isn't that great a place to hold a march or protest unemployment, or suss laws, etc.

Is that the same sort of Irish as Joe Biden?
JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 13:28

No no math you talked about "people who come from civilised countries"

This isn't really a problem in terms of number of events to number of visitors.

Let's talk about how many children die in gun attacks in the US?

Why it has the highest murder rats (by far) or any major industrialised country.

Why is has far higher infant and maternal mortality?

Civilised my arse.

mathanxiety · 30/12/2021 13:28

"Come from civilised countries"

Pahahahahah

There are lots of civilised countries in this world, @JohnHuffam1812. I have several in mind when talking about visitors to London attractions.

There are also lots of countries the UK seeks to strike trade deals with regardless of 'civillsed' status, places the UK sells arms to, sends members of the RF to charm despots...

mathanxiety · 30/12/2021 13:29

Is that the same sort of Irish as Joe Biden?

No hun, born and bred.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 30/12/2021 13:30

Relax. I don't think anyone here is claiming the UK is a civilised country. Grin

C8H10N4O2 · 30/12/2021 13:30

I am finding the hair splitting here really sad

Seriously Math when you have past the point of Godwinating the thread its time to let it go.

Visitors are warned in multiple languages at the Tower about how it operates and to keep out of the way of moving guards. Its pathetic to suggest these were victims rather than idly ignoring the situation.

I've no idea what the OP's motives were in joining MN to post about this - perhaps its his tiktok.

That would be useful as he could then explain why its edited to remove the warnings given by the guards and tourist guides and the part where the soldiers check the child. If you look at it on slo mo its clear they tried to avoid him.

On another thread right now you are arguing for zero tolerance of small offences, such as graffiti, as an effective deterrent to larger offending in your city suburb. Here you are arguing for an entire public site to be reorganised around people who think they are exempt from the rules which many, many thousands of multi language visitors manage to respect every year.

JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 13:30

The US is the country where kinder eggs are banned because they might harm children

But guns aren't.

The US is where people like math get all het up about events like this and not their 6 year old doing drill runs for shootings.

Higher infant mortality (far higher) than any other industrialised country.

Yeah the US really looks after its children.

JohnHuffam1812 · 30/12/2021 13:32

Math I really wouldn't talk about charming despots when you live in the US.

You made a ridiculous statement and it's been thoroughly pulled apart.

KeflavikAirport · 30/12/2021 13:33

@DinoDinner you misunderstand me. There is as much reason to think the boy in the video is a terrorist decoy as the boy in the Tiktok. If danger is lurking everywhere, why is it ok to break with routine to engage with cute saluting kid but not step around clueless in-the-way kid?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 30/12/2021 13:34

There are also lots of countries the UK seeks to strike trade deals with regardless of 'civillsed' status, places the UK sells arms to, sends members of the RF to charm despots...

And no other country has ever done the same, on no....

And what's that too do with an unattended child that got themselves underfoot where they shouldn't have been is anyone's guess.

Bingbangbongbash · 30/12/2021 13:34

@RoyalFamilyFan

This has sent me down a rabbit hole of paying videos of guards reacting to the public getting in the way or baiting them. These videos show that some parts where they march do have barriers from the public, although the public sometimes ignore them. But the soldiers also march down the main pathways in the Tower. The only way to separate them from the public, would be to prevent the public accessing the Tower grounds at all. A lot of the videos featuring people deliberately annoying guards appear to be Americans. One obnoxious man deliberately annoying a sentry, gets punched and knocked out.
The man being punched is fake - it was a YT prank staged by actors in sentry costume.
