To find the days in between Xmas and new year depressing?

I don't mind Boxing Day but today I feel very blah and down in the dumps like I don't know what to do with myself. My daughter is at her dads till tomorrow so I'm going to the shop to get a few bits I need then home for a shower and some wine and dinner later on. However, I just feel like I should be doing something else. I feel antsy and unsure of what I am meant to be doing.

What is everyone else up to?

It's wonderful: silly films, fairy lights on the tree, just been for a walk, chocolate, coffee, hot water bottles, naps, stuff on the radio, i don't have to be anywhere.

Enjoy the peace, life at your pace and unwind far from the madding crowd..Xmas Wink

This is my favourite bit of the year! For me it’s a time of reflection- how did this year go, how can I do better next year, what do I want to experience next..?

Plus my kids are all under one roof, there’s a lot of good food to munch on and we have new games and books.

KatherineofGaunt · 27/12/2021 13:20

I don't mind them. I feel relaxed but also purposeful; we went for a rainy woodland walk today and tomorrow I shall do some clearing out. I shall eat too much chocolate but also book in some exercise classes for next week. It's all good!

Sugarcube84 · 27/12/2021 13:20

House is chaos after a morning playing with new toys with the 2 year old we are both still in pjs, dh having a much needed lie in. 2 year old is now fast asleep on the couch and I’m catching up on call the midwife with a plate of crackers and pate and a cheeky Buck’s Fizz. I love these days as it gives me an excuse to relax and enjoy the kids (and my new book/bath bubbles and booze )

gettingolderandgrumpy · 27/12/2021 13:20

Oh I love them gone is the constant shopping / what to buy such and such / wrapping / I’ve this to do etc. I’ve seen my family and now I can find the time to exercise / read / catch up with tv / eat leftovers and just relax and not have to Christmas stuff .

IamEarthymama · 27/12/2021 13:23

Oh I look forward to these days so so much.
We are seeing family today which is a real joy and I am so grateful that we are all well.

Tomorrow I will do nothing much, look at my presents, try out different things like my set of pencils as I am keen to improve my drawing. I have an embroidery kit too and books.

Wednesday I have a hospital appointment, DW and I will go for lunch to a restaurant with our niece. Then as she is staying over, home to watch some TV and reminisce and make some plans for 2022.

In the following days I need to catch up on some work but will do it at a slow rate.

I really need and value this pause in a fairly busy life.

OP I hope you find something enjoyable to do.

duvetdayforeveryone · 27/12/2021 13:24

Death to 2021 is out on Netflix :)

Awrite · 27/12/2021 13:24

I was feeling low yesterday. Totally knackered by the whole Christmas effort after a stressful few months at work.

Today though - I've been for a long walk and am now rewatching Luther. It's pretty thrilling.

WorstXmasEver · 27/12/2021 13:25

Christmas is always a huge let down I find. I used to hate new yr when I was younger. I was a loner back then & should of been out partying. Nobody ever suggested that's what most were doing. I find that every year people say it's their year & then disaster strikes. 2020 was far better than 21 for me & i often ponder about how strange that alone is.

devildeepbluesea · 27/12/2021 13:26

I'm not keen usually.
This year however, we were too hungover to do the normal Boxing Day buffet and games, so that's happening today instead!

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 27/12/2021 13:27

I quite like them. Christmas out of the way but still New Year to look forward to.

Misty9 · 27/12/2021 13:27

I'm on my own with dc at their dad's too @manboywomengirl and whilst I don't feel down, I am a bit restless now and have had enough time alone but all friends are with family. I spent yesterday vegging out with movies and choc, today I don't quite know what to do with myself beyond housework. Hope you find something nourishing to occupy you Flowers

Scarlettpixie · 27/12/2021 13:28

I have had a lie in, took breakfast back to bed and been playing games on my ipad, reading mumsnet and listening to an audio book. I am now downstairs but still in pjs. Just had lunch and half watching the news.

Thinking of getting dressed, tidying the kitchen and taking the dog for a walk with DS if he fancies it or on my own if not. Will probably have a bowl of trifle when I get back. I am seeing a couple of friends for a couple of hours this evening.

I am back at work on Wednesday and so currently enjoying the break and not feeling like I have to do anything much. Bliss,

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 27/12/2021 13:29

I hate it too, mainly because of the awful weather, damp and dreary here. At least I don’t have the Christmas decorations driving me potty because we didn’t have a Christmas this year and I feel far less stressed than usual, I hate the days of having mess and muddle.

CliveAntichrist · 27/12/2021 13:29

We're on our way up to visit OH's family. It's OH's birthday tomorrow so will be having a belated xmas dinner this evening with his folks and brother and family, and them going for dinner tomorrow for his birthday.

Heading home on the 29 th, seeing friends on the 30 th and got my best friend and husband coming for NYE.

We've been at home all over Xmas so nice to get away for a couple of nights.

MintyGreenDream · 27/12/2021 13:29

I'm watching only fools and horses whilst Mnetting

Mimilamore · 27/12/2021 13:30

My favourite days, no pressure to be anywhere or with anybody, still got nice food, lots of TV to catch up on....

HintofVintagePink · 27/12/2021 13:30

I love these days. Christmas is fun but frantic and these few days we let the DC have lots of screen time, eat chocolate and mooch about. We don’t get a lot of family days so we make the most of being able to do nothing, but together.
I will probably potter and start a charity shop bag and a few small jobs, but if I don’t then that’s ok.
Our family life is pretty regimented the other 51 weeks of the year so this feels like luxury.

Hankunamatata · 27/12/2021 13:31

Nope love them. So relaxed. Can do what I like

dancingthroughthedark · 27/12/2021 13:31

Christmas is out of the way,no one wants to do anything or see others. Please spare a thought for those of us with a birthday today!!

BerthaBlythe · 27/12/2021 13:33

I love them. After all the work and worry of Christmas, we’re just relaxing, reading, and enjoying being together.

IWantMoreStationery · 27/12/2021 13:36

@TeacherMa

These are my favourite days! Xmas and boxing day I'm travelling around visiting various people. These next few days are all about lounging. eating all the chocs, watching telly and just doing whatever I like really.
Me too. I love chilling out after three hectic days. We aren't back till the 4th and this makes me so happy.
Moonface123 · 27/12/2021 13:36

l started work at 6.00am, but luckily finished early. As a single parent always busy, , but mentally it does me good,.no time for brooding.
In my quiet time l like to browse on Etsy, Amazon and plan my garden for the following summer. l made my garden scarecrow a festive outfit, now got some spare hessian to re dress her, which is fun, l also have alot of gym equipment here, thanks to two teenage sons,l often just nip on rowing machine for 20 mins, headphones on, singing along, you can burn 200 calories in that time, (got a tracker on it) same if l run on the treadmill, if weather was better l would be out on a walk. Move your body, move your mind, its all good.

Strokethefurrywall · 27/12/2021 13:37

I used to feel this way too but this is now my reset week.
After a solid 2 months of junk food and daily drinking, I’ve been out for a 5 miler this morning, took the dog across to the beach, going to clean up the house and sort my shit out, put some clothes up for sale and empty the fridge.
Going to chill today, at friends tomorrow for bbq, might go and play some tennis and do some yoga later. DH golfing, kids relaxing.
I’m making sure I do something active every day so I’m already to go for 1 Jan.

MadMadMadamMim · 27/12/2021 13:40

I'm a bit meh too. I'm not terribly good at doing nothing. I've cleared out some bits for the tip and for charity and bagged them up. I'm bored I guess. Nothing on the tv, I feel bagged up with food and really bloated and unhealthy. Weather is poor so I don't want to go for a walk.

I know what you mean about being in limbo.
