Any other different festive unpopular opinions?

OP posts:
Bertiebiscuit · 27/12/2021 18:03

I love Baylis and Harding hand-wash, so I buy it for myself when I want to - I eat whatever I fancy for Xmas Dinner, oh the joy of living alone. In my family we have curry together in a restaurant on Xmas eve, because WE LIKE IT, I honestly don't understand the mentality of worrying so much about about what other people eat, or buy to wash with????? Get a life

Jabbawasarollingstone · 27/12/2021 18:06

I love cauliflower cheese with my roast. Sorry.
Goose is nicer than Turkey.
But ultimately, if I had the choice, I'd rather just eat Pringles and watch Netflix all day

keffie12 · 27/12/2021 18:12

I've got my box already, with items in ready for next year's hampers our church makes up

In it are the usual smellies, defusers, candles and the like. I'm just not into them so they get recycled

I'm very choosy on my lotions and potions as we

I send 4 Christmas cards per year. 3 to my late husband family and 1 to my eldest brother.

Everyone else is reminded early not to send and why

Gilld69 · 27/12/2021 18:18

I do too, I Mass buy the hand-wash, I got lots of lovely gifts this year and I opened a pressie of 2 new hand-washes I think my joy was apparent to all they must think I'm an odd ball, Grin

RunRunGingerbreadMan · 27/12/2021 18:19

Father Christmas is allowed to bring main presents if you want him to, or only stockings if you want him to. I really don't like how many parents nowadays seem so concerned with 'getting credit', it makes me sad that this is an important factor.

Also, socks are awesome gifts, I'd be happy to receive 10 pairs (just 1 pair this year!).

RoyalFamilyFan · 27/12/2021 18:24

Santa brings everything at my house. Although they are now far too old to believe in him anyway.
Trying to get kids to believe in Santa long after they have begun to realise the truth, is about the needs of the parents, not the kids.

OMG12 · 27/12/2021 18:27

@antisocialsocialclub

Cooking the dinner is not hard.

I agree with this, people make do much fuss over it, so much prep the night before. Basically took my 45 minutes or so on the day and that’s including chopping veg. My Mum used to spend Christmas Eve prepping and all morning in the kitchen, no idea what she was going 🤣

Yes this, literally shove the meat in the oven, par boil potatoes then add them to oil in a roasting tin, stick nut roast in oven with parsnips, chop and steam veg, cook sauces. I mean most of the time the food is cooking, requiring no intervention-people love being Christmas dinner martyrs though lashed to the crushing wheel of stirring sauces, boiled alive in the pan of sprouts

I have too many...

Christmas presents should be for children only. Adults buying other adults a present at Christmas makes no sense to me!

Asking people what they want/their children want is annoying and pointless. If you don't know someone well enough to pick something they would like then why are you buying them a gift? Where is the element of surprise if you know what you're getting?!

Christmas cards are pointless, can we not just all assume that everyone wants everyone else to have a nice Christmas? Must we write it in a card?

Vouchers are annoying and further evidence that Christmas presents should only be for children, adults don't need a money voucher which is restricted to a certain place.

Cranberry sauce is gross.

Yorkshire puddings do not belong on a Christmas dinner plate.

Please excuse me and don't take offence...I'm not this much of a scrooge in real life I promise 😂 Although I don't buy presents for any adults, and I don't get any presents either!

Mamamamasaurus · 27/12/2021 18:39

Mince pies are vile. Christmas pudding makes me balk, even just the thought of it.

BoredZelda · 27/12/2021 18:40

Nope. Had this conversation with my 12 year old today. Last year she was on the fence. It was her last year of Christmas “magic” she found Christmas a bit meh this year, even though we finally got away to our Christmas timeshare after missing last year. I said that’s why we kept the magic going last year because we knew when it had gone, there’s no turning back.

BasiliskStare · 27/12/2021 18:50

Ah I think Bayliss and Harding gets a bad rap on here - a woman I know bought me some & I suspect (know) she did not have much money & it is often on offer from Tesco or the like. I do not believe it was thoughtless - she bought me something which looked nice & she could afford. I was grateful. & I am a bit prone to excema and rashes and to be fair - not a hint of a rash. Not sure why the snobbery.

& it didn't trouble my skin. ( other opinions are available) Not everyone can afford Chanel No 5 ( or whatever ) as a causal gift.

BoredZelda · 27/12/2021 18:51

On the contrary, Yorkshire Puddings have a place on any plate!

crazyjinglist · 27/12/2021 19:00

It does make sense if the adults involved enjoy giving and receiving presents though!

RoyalFamilyFan · 27/12/2021 19:01

Gravy is horrible.

Ericaequites · 27/12/2021 19:11

FatherChristmas makes no sense. We talk to children about stranger danger, but encourage little ones to sit on his lap. We maintain home security and don’t let strangers in. It’s not fine for Father Christmas to sneak down the chimney, and eat specially prepared snacks. My mother discouraged the whole business. Telling other children the truth is no tragedy. It’s more sickening to see parents going through all the magic for NT teens.

PrincessNutella · 27/12/2021 19:12

Question: When did British people start eating cranberry sauce?? I didn't even know y'alls knew what it was!

Hobbitytoes · 27/12/2021 19:14

@PeeAche i love multi coloured Christmas lights too!

Mince pies, Christmas puddings, pigs in blankets, all rank. DH and DC couldn't care less about Christmas dinner so we had our usual Saturday night takeaway instead!

I despise work secret santa, usually receive cheap toiletries or candles. Opted back in this year as didn't want to look like a scrooge in my new team and received... a scented candle. Lazy.

MIL doesn't understand that me, DH and DC don't NEED a million pointless gifts. In 15 years we've never worn any of the piles of clothes she's picked up in m&s or next outlet stores. Every year I say put money in the bank for the kids or but no she'd rather waste it on piles of clothes we won't wear or toiletries we don't use cause Christmas means LOTS of gifts Confused

YukoandHiro · 27/12/2021 19:15

The chestnut stuffing is the best bit of Christmas dinner

RoyalFamilyFan · 27/12/2021 19:15

@PrincessNutella I dont know, but I was eating it 50 years ago in Britain.

DappledThings · 27/12/2021 19:16

I'm 42 and don't remember a Christmas dinner without it.

A tree without tinsel is unfinished. Basically naked.

Bitofachinwag · 27/12/2021 19:18

Socks make a lovely Christmas present

PrincessNutella · 27/12/2021 19:19

Interesting!! I think of cranberries as being very tied to the land here. But I know that when I was growing up, we usually bought cans of cranberry sauce (now we make it from berries), and it was hard to connect cranberry sauce to an actual plant that existed in nature.

TheRemotePart · 27/12/2021 19:23

Primark £10 pjs? Love them. Think they’re a great present !

BasiliskStare · 27/12/2021 19:25

& one more unpopular thing I like Christmas cards - the front gets cut off and stored for gifts tags for next year the rest recycled. But I like to hear from people who live a long way away .

FeeFi100 · 27/12/2021 19:29

@DreamerSeven

I bloody love sprouts, would have them with every Sunday roast if the rest of my family felt the same
I love sprouts too!
