Why do people not like them?

Theremoresefulday · 26/12/2021 07:58

What’s wrong with them?

DreamerSeven · 26/12/2021 07:58

I bloody love sprouts, would have them with every Sunday roast if the rest of my family felt the same

Neverunderstood · 26/12/2021 07:59

People regard them as “cheap and nasty” and toiletries are a very personal thing.

SheWolfOFFrancee · 26/12/2021 07:59

I love a good expensive domestic appliance / cook & kitchen ware as a gift.

KatherineJaneway · 26/12/2021 08:00

I like Sprouts too. I do know how to cook them as well 😋

Theremoresefulday · 26/12/2021 08:01

I bought myself a kitchen aid for Christmas. It’s my main present to myself. (No partner). I’m buying expensive saucepans in the sales too.

Why do people not like them?
I have no idea there was a thread recently about how naff and cheap they are. Almost was a weird competition about who liked them the least. 🤣 They are just like any other hand wash imo not sure why some of MN find them so offensive.

For me OP it’s Turkey, even before I was a veggie I found it boring and dry and only edible if you pour loads of gravy or cranberry sauce on it. So overrated.

Crackers too, so much waste and rubbish. They don’t bang anymore, they’re badly made sand I don’t need another nail clipper or mini screwdriver set 🤣

PAFMO · 26/12/2021 08:02

I like seeing family
I like the fact my child's grandparents buy her things even if they haven't received the royal warrant to do so
I don't give a fuck who sits where at the table
I'm an adult not 4 so I didn't have the screaming abdabs when dp asked me what I wanted and I named a couple of books
I didn't receive handwritten thank you cards (fountain pen pbvs) by 3pm yesterday from my nieces and nephews but that's ok.
I don't feel the need to start a MN thread to moan that my MIL is still breathing despite the arsenic I've added to everything on her plate
Etc etc.

Dear god but the professionally offended have been out in force since early yesterday. Xmas Confused

Onlyrainbows · 26/12/2021 08:02

It's the day that matters not the date

Sprogonthetyne · 26/12/2021 08:02

I also like them and would happily munch my way through a box of Thorntons.

For my unpopular opinion: I think pretty much every Christmas condiment is overrated. If anyone actually like bread sauce or cranberry then we'd eat them all year round.

We have cranberry sauce with every Sunday roast. Bread sauce though 🤢
drpet49 · 26/12/2021 08:04

Roast dinner is overrated and not special

katienana · 26/12/2021 08:04

The only veg that should be on a dinner is sprouts, carrots and roast parsnips.
Cooking the dinner is not hard.

You have to have turkey.
Making kids wait till after lunch to open presents is child cruelty.
Santa brings all the presents!

Echoesandsilence · 26/12/2021 08:04

Dreamerseven - we all love sprouts but its hard to find them in supermarkets all year round.

Agree with PP on domestic appliances as a gift. I got a robovac last christmas. Many on MN were apalled that this could be considered a gift for me but I was delighted with it.

antisocialsocialclub · 26/12/2021 08:06

Cooking the dinner is not hard.

I agree with this, people make do much fuss over it, so much prep the night before. Basically took my 45 minutes or so on the day and that’s including chopping veg. My Mum used to spend Christmas Eve prepping and all morning in the kitchen, no idea what she was going 🤣

Soubriquet · 26/12/2021 08:06

I don’t care if I don’t get a Christmas present as long as my children are happy.

antisocialsocialclub · 26/12/2021 08:08

Doing*

WhatdoImean · 26/12/2021 08:11

Christmas is something to be endured, rather than enjoyed

HelloBunny · 26/12/2021 08:13

Turkey, no ta!
Cranberry sauce, same.

I haven’t eaten anything Christmas flavoured yet. Mince pies, Christmas cake, plum pudding, mulled wine.
I just have cakes / sweets that I like.

Tons of different cheese. One of my favourites in the fridge, that’s plenty!

Gift vouchers. Have never given or received one, at Christmas.

QuiltedHippo · 26/12/2021 08:13

I love Christmas cards! And find the pompous "they go straight in the recycling if I'm dared to be sent one" posts so irritating

Notjustanymum · 26/12/2021 08:18

@PAFMO, I haven’t heard the phrase “ the screaming abdabs” for years! Thank you for reminding me (fondly) of my Mum and Aunties!

GuyFawkesDay · 26/12/2021 08:22

Agreed. It's just a roast dinner with a couple of extras. None of which take much time to do.

I love spending the day with family too. And we do the weird thing with thank yous where we either see of speak to family on Christmas day or boxing day and say thank you on the phone/video call/in person. No handwritten notes here either.

Burnt0utMum · 26/12/2021 08:23

Christmas Dinner is just a big faff that no one really enjoys. We had lamb and rice with lots of side salad, delicious and every enjoyed it.

My kids don't believe in santa and never have done because I didn't want to lie to them and it works fine for us. The magic of Christmas is definitely still there and they still enjoy talking about santa as a fictional character.

Our decorations go up in November because I love Christmas and want to enjoy it for as long as possible.

I also love kitchen appliances and household items as gifts. Would rather have something useful than gift for the sake of it.

Mercurial123 · 26/12/2021 08:24

I agree I don't care about presents. If you must get me something a voucher would be great.

Don't like Christmas cards, most of my friends don't send them. I only send to elderly relatives.
