How can people eat fat?

I am willing to accept I may have some kind of issue here!

Some examples -

  • a bacon sandwich which has not had the fat cut off/ been very very well done so it's crispy
  • fat through steak
  • the white bits you get on chicken
  • white bits of fat through a burger/ any meat
  • pork belly 🤢
  • fatty/ jelly bit on a piece of diced chicken/ lamb
  • jelly fatty bits in sausages

I just had a duck spring roll and there was a chewy slimy horrible bit of fat in it - now I feel sick. They were from Waitrose too. 😂

I once asked my friend about this and she said she just eats round it/ ignores it.

But I find it absolutely disgusting and off putting. I rarely eat meat unless I've cooked it myself for this reason. Aibu?

I've tried buying the most expensive sausages/ organic chicken etc but there always seems to be fat in it. Does anyone else feel like this?

@StayingHoHoHome I'm the same, over time meat has got less and less delicious, cheap bacon which bubbles with white water, no thanks, bits of gristle. I am veggie at home, occasionally eat meat when out at someone's house, but it's increasingly not worth it as it's either dry, chewy or just not delicious like I remember. I'm becoming veggie by stealth!

riromay · 24/12/2021 21:52

I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE! Yes! I don't eat fat, I'm mostly pescetarian for that reason. I mostly mean animal fat but I don't like oily things either. I do like avocados for example

wineandchocolateforthewin · 24/12/2021 21:55

I hate it too OP, i'm so fussy with meat, even at my in laws my husband has to chop the meat to make sure it's ok for me, any fat etc and i feel really sick.

gofg · 24/12/2021 22:01

My Grandad used to take the fat everyone else had cut off e.g. a chop from our plates and eat it.

So did mine!

I hate fat and used to go to great lengths to cut it off any meat. I still do, but I don't eat much meat now, and I can tolerate a little bit of fat on crispy bacon. Although I don't like pork I will happily eat crackling!

Keladrythesaviour · 24/12/2021 22:05

Ooh no, the juicy fat on a grilled pork chop is a thing of beauty. I don't like it when super chewy on bacon etc, but when cooked to just dissolving it is gorgeous.

BoPeeple · 24/12/2021 22:05

I eat all fat, even if it’s not crispy. Fat off ham, pork chops, steak, bacon. Everything. It’s absolutely delicious.

I can’t bear watching people cut it off and leave it!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 24/12/2021 22:19

I hate it too OP - I have to take the jelly out of a pork pie before I eat it Grin

I can't bear watching Jamie Oliver's cooking as he pours olive oil over everything Confused

Hate butter in sandwiches and as for skin on chicken and pork crackling, bleurgh!

autieok · 24/12/2021 23:37

Crispy bacon fat yes all others absolutely not. If I see fat in chicken I can't even finish it 🤢

blueshoes · 24/12/2021 23:43

Fat is amazing. The best tasting thing ever. If there is crackling, I ask for more. It is where the taste is. It also seals the appetite.

People who eat fat moderately are slimmer than those who eat loads of carbs.

RandomLondoner · 24/12/2021 23:52

I like fat in tiny chunks, part of it must be crispy. If it's a slightly bigger piece with no meat attached, I dilute the bite with rice or potato. A big piece of white wobbly blubber on its own might make me nauseous though.

Oh the jelly Xmas Envy I do the same! I don't like butter on sandwiches either but bread and butter itself is one of my favourite things.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in my apparently weird eating habits

readwhatiactuallysay · 24/12/2021 23:58

Yes i hate fat, its just vile.
My hubby says if cooked right its the tastiest bit, uurrrggghhh no, no it isnt.

DP hates all fat. If I'm making ham sandwiches I'll take the fat off his and eat it rather than bin it 😄
Luredbyapomegranate · 25/12/2021 00:05

@lastqueenofscotland

Do you eat anything with oil/butter/cheese? That’s really just fat.
Yes this, I will remove any obvious bits of fat (unless crispy) because I don’t like the texture or taste of a glob of it (don’t like salami much) but the fat is what carries through me flavour in meat.
BashfulClam · 25/12/2021 00:37

Onfintcc bc avoid it, I like it.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 25/12/2021 00:41

My dd cannot eat fat of any kind.

I could eat pure fat x

Nowayoutonlydown · 25/12/2021 00:46

Not all fat is the same though.

5% minced beef (or 3% if you can find it) generally gets rid of the chewy fat, can't abide it in sausages either. The chewy stuff on steak is crap too.

But decent marbling on steak- often can't taste it but does often equal tenderness of the meat.

Bacon fat cam be a bit overwhelming,

I can only say you're half U TBF

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/12/2021 00:47

I can’t eat it either OP 🤢

lololololollll · 25/12/2021 01:23

I eat the fat first, and I'll eat everyone dowse too

lololololollll · 25/12/2021 01:23

Everyone else's

lololololollll · 25/12/2021 01:28

Christ, it's Christmas morning in a minute and I'm contributing to chat about meat fat. Help, I need to sleep 😂

immersivereader · 25/12/2021 01:31

Slightly burnt greasy pork chop with loads of salt? Heaven

Furries · 25/12/2021 01:33

You’re not wrong. I have to cut the fat off bacon (or buy medallions). I score around/cut out fat from ham. Hardly ever eat red meat, but if I do then cut off fat. Stringy bits from chicken get cut out and binned. And yet I know, from lots that I’ve read, that fat adds the flavour!

I don’t like much dairy - hate milk, cream etc. Don’t like butter on sandwiches or cooked with potatoes or veg etc. The only dairy I really like is hard cheese like cheddar, but even that’s not often.

Basically, I accept that I’m a bit weird.

Six pages in this thread so far, and no mention of the food of God: lardy cake.

Lard rolled into dough, along with brown sugar and raisins. Basically an English croissant.

If I'm ever condemned to death lardy cake will be my last meal.
