Who is being unreasonable?

RedSquirrel111 · 21/12/2021 00:58

Friend A is self isolating after a positive PCR today. Friend A lives on their own.

Friend B is helping out by picking up shopping.

Friend A has written a list to pick up and will pay Friend B back. List includes cigarettes.

Friend B despises smoking and says she'll pick up food and medication but not cigarettes.

WIBU??

A is very unreasonable and b isn't me but could be. A
Smoking is horrible and a really stupid idea when your lungs need to be able to breathe to recover from covid

PeriodHacker · 21/12/2021 03:11

Here to save you OP🦸‍♀️

www.beelivery.com

I just waved my ID through the window and spoke to chap on mobile to let him know isolating and give him the code.

Fendidntdrake · 21/12/2021 03:13

B is behaving appallingly.
Hope you can get your cigarette delivered.

Fendidntdrake · 21/12/2021 03:13

Cigarettes. One wouldn't be much use.

jetadore · 21/12/2021 03:13

B definitely unreasonable and if I were A I’d be thinking hard about this friendship. It’s one thing to disapprove of smoking it’s another to not do someone a favour. If A were overweight would B refuse to buy food?

PyongyangKipperbang · 21/12/2021 03:29

@Jacketpotato84

You know what she's probably worried about you with covid and doesn't want it on her hands if you get really ill from smoking whilst with covid I can see why your friend is reluctant to buy you fags in that case Thing is smoking isn't a necessity is it, it won't be that comfortable at times but you can go without them
Says someone who has never had an addiction!
vodkaredbullgirl · 21/12/2021 03:32

Friend B seems to be jury judge and executioner.

Jacketpotato84 · 21/12/2021 03:56

@pyongyangkipperbang
Actually I currently smoke,
Don't be so quick to judge

oKoK65 · 21/12/2021 03:56

@RedSquirrel111

I'm Friend A, just wanted an unbiased opinion!

I know I can't insist, but the thought of isolating over Christmas, whilst also going through withdrawal is making me want to chew off my own arm.

Great way to write it to get an unbiased opinion. If my friend was isolating and smoked I would absolutely buy them cigarettes. You are an adult it's your choice to smoke and it would be awful to just stop like that.
Monty27 · 21/12/2021 04:03

@1forAll74

B is bothersome
B is trouble with a big fat T 🤣
Queeen · 21/12/2021 04:09

I'm with B. I wouldn't get them either.

Amandasummers · 21/12/2021 04:15

Your friends a twat IMO. Must be nice up there on her high horse!

For future reference - deliveroo where I am most certainly delivers alcohol and cigarettes! Obviously more expensive but needs must!

mediumbrownmug · 21/12/2021 04:23

I don’t agree with Friend B deciding for you. That said, rightly or wrongly, she may feel that she couldn’t live with herself if the worst happened and she had, in her mind, made it “worse” by getting the cigarettes. I could respect that and would find another means of finding that item off my list.

Marchitectmummy · 21/12/2021 04:30

Oh goodness poor A, I'm sure B doesn't mean to be mean but it is isn't it. Ive never smoked so don't know the feeling of needing a cigarette but so many people talk of it to imagine the last thing anyone needs when stuck in is withdrawal. Good luck OP hope you convince your friend or find a source...

Snugglepumpkin · 21/12/2021 04:51

Get online & search for tobacconists who deliver, or use one of those delivery companies who buy stuff for you from Spar, supermarkets etc.. & you can get tobacco delivered today.
It will cost you more but if you don't, there is a chance you'll end up leaving isolation going to buy them anyway at some point.

It would be different if you wanted to give up right now, but as you obviously didn't want to, then B is being a Grinch & actually making it more likely you'll go out BECAUSE of what she intends to do.

Blossom64265 · 21/12/2021 04:59

Unless it’s a supervillain threatening the world kind of situation, I am not participating in the purchase or delivery of cigarettes. B did nothing wrong.

Dozer · 21/12/2021 05:11

B is VU!

Santasunderstudy · 21/12/2021 05:24

Your friend isn't being very fair. Its your choice.

Have you tried the Co-OP snappy shopper ap? I ordered from there when isolating.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/12/2021 05:24

Some twats about, on here tonight.

pinkfondu · 21/12/2021 05:29

Way to kick you when you are down.....tell her you'll need her support and that you will call her everytime you think about themGrin

Billybagpuss · 21/12/2021 05:31

Back in the days of duty free day trips when trips to France meant cheap wine and cigarettes people would never ask me to get cigarettes as I've always been anti smoking and don’t want to give money to the tobacco industry

However denying cigarettes to an addict when you are the only gate keeper is cruel. I think in this situation I would. But I’m in my 50s now and am less hot headed and with a greater understanding of addiction than my 20 year old self.

I do understand where your friend is coming from and I think in time she will realise how difficult it was for you. But in the meantime if you can respect her wishes and pay a bit extra for delivery.

Hope covid passes easily and Christmas isn’t completely rubbish.

5keletor · 21/12/2021 05:41

I used to smoke myself but now can't stand it, however if if was your money and I didn't have to be around you smoking, I would buy them. As a friend I would rather you didn't for your own health, but I understand that a forced period of no cigarettes during isolation isn't going to make you stop completely!

CakesOfVersailles · 21/12/2021 05:56

If I was B I wouldn't buy them to be honest.

NumberTheory · 21/12/2021 06:00

I wouldn't buy anyone cigarettes. I grew up in a house that was full of smoke with a mother whose life was ruined by them (and probably hurt mine and my brother's health too). It's vile and I won't help someone get their fix, I'd feel dirty all day.

Shoxfordian · 21/12/2021 06:00

B is a dick
She’s not the smoking police
