To think back on this year's best "WTF" threads

I've been inspired by a recent post on AIBU about a DP handing vegetables, bamboo, and mis-matched hard drives full of films as gifts to OP and family (OP, I hope you don't mind me mentioning this as an example! I also hope you get some better gifts this year!)

Among all the more serious stuff, there have been quite a few threads this year which crossed the line into serious WTF territory. Some that spring to mind for me:

The lady whose new neighbour tried to enlist her into befriending his wife who had significant language barriers - and the resulting thread which got weirder by the day! If I remember, the OP was very calm and level headed about the whole thing!

The OP whose DP was in a cycling club which was being followed around by a mysterious self-appointed cheerleader who turned up to their events and who nobody could get rid of!

What have been your favourite threads from the MN twilight zone?

(I'm not a journo, btw, but if anyone feels like paying me for recycled MN posts, do go ahead!)

Absolutely hilarious and so well written by the OP.

Even funnier were the pearl clutchers calling her a terrible person.

Ooo thought of another one, the one where the OPs husband had fallen down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories including about COVID and lizard people etc 😂 that was just something else 😂

I also liked the wild goose chase followed by the posters' complete loss of humour about it

The one about the man who wants to be an alien and had some of his fingers chopped off and a bunch of other stuff. He is called black alien project on Instagram and his goal is to look like an alien.

Posters were up on that thread like ‘we can’t judge, people get their ears pierced.’ It was a madness.

Yes, reminds me of the Cat Man, who had lots of surgery as well to look like a cat. I'd watched a documentary on him, had suffered abuse etc in his childhood, he's dead now and I can't remember if it was by suicide, or maybe accidental OD or something. The people that enable it should be charged, it's so exploitative.

The Companies House one was really weird! She acted like the candidate was a stalker who invaded their privacy when in reality she simply did her research!

The best CF one was the man who parked on OP's land although she told him not to, and then the gate was closed and locked for a weekend or more. He got his kids to climb over her fence to get something out of his car, but was too cowardly to knock on her door to ask her to unlock the gate. Several days passed I seem to remember, before he sent his wife to ask. He had the cheek to tell OP that she "had" his car as though she had taken it.

Oh yes that’s it, the wife came over and said something like, ‘I think you’ve got our car’ like OP had stolen it. I have to admit I did want the OP to kick off a bit more but I understand why she didn’t. The CF just got away with it, tbh he probably told his poor wife a load of lies, he seemed like the sort.

I agree. So weird, that one. I check thinngs on Companies House all the time in relation to my work, and the fact that the OP clearly thought it was private information when it's in the public domain was interesting.

The horse one reminds me of the thread where the OP was saying she was sharing a horse snd there was a disagreement, but she had used another example than a horse for privacy (a car? A boat?) and it ended up being a hilarious thread

The thread about someone complaining that the “unisex” toilet at the cinema was full of urinals in use. Cue much froth and outrage until it transpired that the OP had actually wandered into the men’s toilet. It was the Everyman Cinema and she had misread the sign Everyboy as Everybody. Others kindly pointed out that the Everygirl loo was just down the corridor.

Is that how that thread was resolved!!!

I think about that every time I go to the Everyman (favourite cinema) because I remember people on the thread frothing that they have unisex loos but mine has different toilets for men/women. I thought it was weird because I’ve never been to cinema with unisex toilets.

It’s actually really sad. People were being oh so cool on the thread, ‘it’s his choice, lots of people like tattoos and piercings etc.’ But come on, that’s not a few tattoos. And he’s only like 20% done. Think he’s having his legs chopped off next going by his social media.

I won't be able to provide the thread because I can't remember the name, and it wasn't an outstanding thread but there was a MN Gold response on it. I scrolled down to see if anyone had taken the poster apart for it, and to my shock NO ONE had, and I just thought "Leave it, don't start a bunfight" and never checked again to see if anyone matched my reaction.

A woman was talking about Return To School for her teenager post pregnancy and someone HONESTLY replied with (something along the lines of)

But "it's A Grammar School! She can't go back to a Grammar School NOW, Think of The Other Girls"

As if to say Teenage Pregnancy DOES or SHOULD only happen to Comprehensive Sorts
