For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

How strange, OP, I was only thinking of this earlier. My wonderful paternal grandparents died within days of each other when I was 14, my other grandmother when I was 35 and lovely grandad when I was 37.
My great grandmother was a big part of our childhood as was her brother, my great-great uncle. They were both born in the late 1800s and my GGU fought in WW1.

Lostmyway86 · 15/12/2021 20:45

I'm 34 with 1 nan left and she's nearly 90

kitkatsky · 15/12/2021 20:49

I'm 37 and my 85yo grandmother is still alive- last of the set

waterlego · 15/12/2021 20:52

It’s an interesting to see the wide range of answer. I lost my last grandparent when I was 21, and my parents when I was mid 30s. I’m in my 40s now and it’s weird (but nice!) to think quite a few people my age still have a grandparent.

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 15/12/2021 21:00

All mine were gone by the time I was 23. One before I was born.
One side of the family tend to have children their 30s and 40s though. And the other side were just very unfortunate and very unhealthy!

2pinkginsplease · 15/12/2021 21:00

I have one gran left alive. She is 97 but is very poorly in a home. She had an amazing life until she was 88 and it all went down hill . I’m 45 though her oldest grandchild is 52.

Capricopia · 15/12/2021 21:08

I’m 34 and have one surviving grandparent.

BreadmanAndCake · 15/12/2021 21:08

I'm 27. I have all my Grandparents still alive (two in their late 80s and two in their late 60s/early 70s. Also have both my Great Nans - both in their 90s. They both have four Great-Great Grandchildren! One is strong as an ox, the other less so.
My husband doesn't have any Grandparents left but does have his Great Nan who is in her 90s but probably not long for this world, sadly.

nonameslefttochoose · 15/12/2021 21:10

I am 38 (almost 39) and still have all four grandparents. I do realise how lucky I am and try to see them all regularly

zippygeorgebungle · 15/12/2021 21:11

I was 41 when my much loved gran died days short of 102. But my eldest cousins were in their 50s and there were many great grandchildren and even a great great grandchild late primary age who was close to her to! It saddens me a little that as an older mum (had mine in my 30s and at 40) I may be a very old granny but who knows, if I get to her age I might see great grandkids!

Wizzbangfizz · 15/12/2021 21:13

41, one surviving GP who is 91.

Rocketpants50 · 15/12/2021 21:14

I am 46. My grandma has great great grandchildren . She is wonderful but feeling very old and tired.

cadburyegg · 15/12/2021 21:15

Wow I'm a little envious (in a nice way) of some of the people on this thread! I had "older" parents and as a result both of my granddads died before I was born, one grandma died when I was 3 and my other grandma died when I was 16. My dad died this year. I'm 34

Nobranothanks · 15/12/2021 21:20

I'm 34. One grandfather died when I was 16. One nan and other grandfather died when I was 17 (different sides of family and 1 day apart). My other nan is still going very, very strong and is no Different now to how she was 30 years ago!!

badgerread · 15/12/2021 21:21

I was very lucky and had my last Grandmother until I was 45..

Trinacham · 15/12/2021 21:22

Only have one grandparent left. I'm 31

GiveUsACwtch · 15/12/2021 21:28

I'm 35 and the only grandparent still alive is my grandad who is 81.

I was a baby when my other grandad passed away and both of my nans passed away last year just 4 months apart.

Unfortunately my children, aged 15, 12 and 4 have experienced the loss of a grandparent just 5 weeks ago when FIL died suddenly.

mrsmacmc · 15/12/2021 21:29

36 and have my gramps left at 92 he doesn't look that age at all and his family nickname is Peter Pan 🥰

Glitterblue · 15/12/2021 21:30

I'm 45 and my grandma is 93. My others passed away when I was 33, 24 and 6.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 15/12/2021 21:32

Think I was 11, 22, 27 and in my 30s. The grandparent who passed away when I was in my 30s, I had never met, but we wrote to each other.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 15/12/2021 21:39

I was 9 or 10 when I lost my first grandparent. Then my remaining 3 have all gone in the last 6 years, I’m in my mid-30s. I’ve also lost one parent last year.

PetuniaButterworth · 15/12/2021 21:43

5 and 6 for two great grandmother's I have vague memories of them .

14 DGF (maternal) 16 DGM (paternal) 26 DGF (paternal) but I never met him and my DGM (maternal) is in her 80s and still with us

RaginaPhalange · 15/12/2021 21:43

Dad's side. Grandpa died before I was born and gran died when I was about 6.
Mum's side. Grandpa passed in 2020. Gran is still alive. I'm 27.

FuckingFabulous · 15/12/2021 22:13

My grandfather died this year at 76. My grandmother died of cancer in her 50s. And my other grandparents are alive. They're 83 and 78

Doublechins · 15/12/2021 22:19

I am 34. Fathers parents have both passed (actually so has he).

Mothers parents both still with us and my DGM does a lot of childcare for me. She's 73 and probably fitter than I am.
