For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Justsotirednow · 15/12/2021 13:11

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

I'm 43 with an 89 year old Nan, Peggy - she's adorable!

GrandTheftWalrus · 15/12/2021 18:12

I lost mine at 10 and 24. On my mums side. My dad's side was later but no idea when as he was nc.

Exdh is 37 and his grandmother is 91

NellePorter · 15/12/2021 18:16

All of my grandparents had passed away by the time I was 10 (never knew my great-grand-parents either). My DH had 2 grandparents well into his 40s and I never met either of them as his parents were NC with them, it made me really sad as it was due to a silly falling out.

PinkiePonk · 15/12/2021 18:23

I'm 31 and both my grandparents are in their 80s now!

Livpool · 15/12/2021 18:32

My DGM died when I was almost 39 - she was 93. I miss her lots

ChristmasCardDyslexia · 15/12/2021 18:36

I have 2 grandparents left, I'm early 30s my grandparents are 87 and 91.

My Ex-Husband has all his grandparents living (including 2 step grandparents), he's the same age as me. All his grandparents are aged between 72 and 85.

mumjustmum · 15/12/2021 18:37

I'm 36, and my last remaining grandparent is 82. She still drives 4hour journeys "down south" to see us all. Uses Facebook, email, and her iPhone with ease. She also has Netflix, iplayer, itvhub, etc which my husband set up for her.
She's a DREAM ♥️🥰

ThatDreamSheep · 15/12/2021 18:46

I'm 31 and lost my grandparents at 13, 15 and 18. My last remaining Nan is 89-on the other hand is lost my Dad (her son) when I was 23!

SuperSange · 15/12/2021 18:55

I'm 50 next week and have one left.

mummyof2boys30 · 15/12/2021 19:00

35 and one grandparent alive who is 78.
I had x4 grandparents and 3 great grandparents when i was first born. Had a great grandparent alive right into my teens. Three out of my 4 grandparents met and had a relationship with my kids

blablablack · 15/12/2021 19:01

It's so sad isn't it losing a grandparent.
One was already dead before I was born, another died when I was 4. My 2 grans outlived their husbands by such a big number of years which is so sad. I was 24 my Gran died and 34 when nan died last yr. I also had a great Gran until I was 10.

My husband had lost all grandparents by time he was 8. He also lost his mum when he was 6, absolutely heartbreaking.

Cotswoldmama · 15/12/2021 19:09

I was 24 when my grandad died, he was quite young though. I'm 37 and my other grandparents are alive and in their 80s and 90s

GotToGoBye · 15/12/2021 19:11

My grandparents died when I was 11, 21, 21 and 38.

Purplespup16 · 15/12/2021 19:14

I’m early 40s my Grandfather turns 100 next year.

Babyiwantabump · 15/12/2021 19:16

I’m 36 my nan and grandad are 88 and 86

helpadvicewhateverneeded · 15/12/2021 19:17

I'm 37 and have one still alive, she's 77.

housemaus · 15/12/2021 19:18

One left, I'm 33.

I'm not close to them, though - didn't know them til I was 21, their fault, and see them maybe once every 2 years - so it feels like I have none left. My favourite person in the whole world, my grandad, died last month and I miss him a lot.

Christmascakecakecheese · 15/12/2021 19:20

All mine died in their seventies, the last was about 21 years ago.

My partner is 38 and still has his gran who is 94.

tootiredtospeak · 15/12/2021 19:21

Mine are alive on my Mums side 82 and 87. I am 44.

tillyandmilly · 15/12/2021 19:21

I miss my Nan so much! - she died at 76 of cancer when I was 29 - had a breakdown after her passing!

Fizbosshoes · 15/12/2021 19:23

I'm always slightly envious of people my age (early 40s) who still have their GPS. My paternal gps died before I was born and my maternal gps died when I was a toddler so I have no memories of them.
My own DC are 15 and 12 and have 1 grandparent left. Their cousins had all 4 grandparents in their 20s.

bardos · 15/12/2021 19:23

I am extremely lucky and have all 4 grand parents 2 step grandparents and 2 great grandparents. I'm 25 and have 2 children. I'm so grateful that they are still here to be in my childrens lives

alexis4theppl · 15/12/2021 19:28

I'm 35 with just my Nan left who is 82. I lost my grandad this year aged 83 😢

Cameleongirl · 15/12/2021 19:29

@pigsDOfly

Not really relevant to your thread OP but I've just worked out that my maternal grandmother was born 154 years ago.

Obviously, she died long before I was born, as did all my grandparents. She was 41 when she had my mother and my mother was 40 when she had me. Needless to say I'm old Grin

@pigsDOfly I think your experience is going to be more the norm for future generations, unless we can figure out how to live to 100+! I know one person IRL who had their first child before 30 ( and she was 29) and far more who have children close to 40.

If the next generation do the same, grandparents will be close to 80 when their grandchildren are born…so we’d better increase our longevity.😂

newtb · 15/12/2021 19:30

2 died before I was born, 1 when I was still in the nursing home, and 1 just before I was 3, and I can remember him.
