For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Justsotirednow · 15/12/2021 13:11

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

I'm 43 and am very lucky to still have Gran 95 and Grandad 93.

I lost my other set of Grandparents when I was 22 (Grandad) and 35 (Nana).

TheOriginalEmu · 15/12/2021 16:54

I lost my grandad when I was 5, then 3 remaining when I was 19, 20 and 21.

thismeansnothing · 15/12/2021 16:56

I'm 36.

My dad's parents died long before I was born.

My grandad on my mum's side passed away when I was 9.

My grandma is going strong. Living independently at home and she's 91.

GarlandsinGreece · 15/12/2021 16:56

I’m 44. My remaining grandparent passed away earlier this year at 94.

Bettalife · 15/12/2021 16:59

I’m 44 and my grandad has just turned 92 and is still going strong (and is probably in better shape than my dad). My other grandparents died when I was 29, 35 and 39.
I was 21 when my last great grandparent died.

SecondhandTable · 15/12/2021 17:00

I'm in my late 20s and have one surviving grandparent - my DM's DM. DGM was 18 when she had DM, so was young when she became a grandmother too although DM was 30 when she had me.

DH is the same age as me and also only has one surviving grandparent, also a DGM although she is a lot older than mine.

JorisBonson · 15/12/2021 17:01

37, just my gran left, she's 82.

DH is 38 and has all but one grandad still alive.

Iheartmysmart · 15/12/2021 17:01

I’m 54, have one remaining grandparent who is 95. She still lives in her own home albeit with carers a couple of times a day now.

Apart from my dad’s dad, all my grandparents lived into their 90’s. My great nan was 101 when she died.

Magicpaintbrush · 15/12/2021 17:02

I am 43 and my Nan is 83. My other three grandparents all died 13 years ago in the same year, the same year my DD was born - a very emotional year.

SMabbutt · 15/12/2021 17:03

My last grandparent died when I was nearly 57. She was 102 and I saw her a couple of times a week. She was still living on her own until just before her 101st birthday.

SquigglePigs · 15/12/2021 17:04

I was 37 when my last Grandparent died. DH was the same age (we lost both within a few months). Prior to that I was 32. The others died before I was born.

Similarly DH only had two grandparents growing up and the other one was in his 90's and DH was mid-late 20's (I can't remember exactly!).

3scape · 15/12/2021 17:06

When I was born i had 6 great grandparents and all of my grandparents.

I lost my first grandparent when I was 15 (she was 55), there were still two greats at that point.
In my 20s i lost those two greats very quickly together (they were married). In my mid thirties I lost a grandparent, leaving one on each side. At 42 my grandad (81) died. Then last year my gran died (86).

I'm now 46 and have none. My mum had me very young.

SophieHatterPendragon · 15/12/2021 17:08

My grandparents on my mums died when I was 30. On my dads I was 8 and 13

lollipopsandrainbows · 15/12/2021 17:09

I'm 38 and got 3 grandparents left, all of them 85. One is more frail than the rest, but thankfully she has my grandad to look after her. Up until two years ago she was very outgoing, would still dance like Tina Turner at parties, and would drink me under the table. Since Covid she's become very vulnerable and has socially withdrawn, it's been quite sad to watch.

Thetribeofhiltons · 15/12/2021 17:12

I’m 37. I have both grandparents on my DF side and my grandmother on my DM side. My grandfather on my DM side passed away last year.
My DD is 15, she still has three great grandparents alive and is very aware of how lucky she is as she has many friends who don’t have grandparents let alone great grandparents!

TheSoapyFrog · 15/12/2021 17:12

I'm 39. One of my nans died in 2013 just after she turned 70. One set of grandparents died 2020 and 2021 when they were 82. I have one remaining grandad, he isn't my biological grandfather though and was much younger than my nan.

elliejjtiny · 15/12/2021 17:13

My last one died when I was 38. Dh is 42 and still has one who is 93.

I really wanted my dc to have great grandparents and to have "young" grandparents as I didn't have that and dh did. Dc1 is 15 and was born with 4 great grandparents and now has one left, and 3 grandparents. He has been very lucky.

TheGoogleMum · 15/12/2021 17:14

I was in primary school when my nans died. My grandads died before I was born

pigsDOfly · 15/12/2021 17:20

Not really relevant to your thread OP but I've just worked out that my maternal grandmother was born 154 years ago.

Obviously, she died long before I was born, as did all my grandparents. She was 41 when she had my mother and my mother was 40 when she had me. Needless to say I'm old Grin

wanttomarryamillionaire · 15/12/2021 17:23

I still have my grandmother and im 45.

Heartofglass12345 · 15/12/2021 17:25

My Nan is 90 and I'm 37, my sister is 45. My great Nan lived until 101!

avocadotofu · 15/12/2021 17:28

I'm 37 and my Oma (I'm half German) is 92.

wtdse · 15/12/2021 17:28

I'm 38, my gran is 94!

OkThenJustChill · 15/12/2021 17:29

I'm 31 and I have one set of grandparents that are in their late 70s. My dad's parents died before I was born.

Furrydogmum · 15/12/2021 17:30

DH lost his grandma last year, she was nearly 94, he was 46..
