For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

Lost most of my gps whilst in my thirties and they were in their 90s . Just my Gran left who is 102 but with zero quality of life. I’d rather go quickly like my other grandparents.

YodaiamsaidI · 15/12/2021 16:00

My last grandparent died when I was 37,lost paternal gran while parents courting, paternal grandad when 11,maternal gran at 35 and it was maternal grandad at 37.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/12/2021 16:00

My last grandparent died when I was 16. She was 96.

Onthegrid · 15/12/2021 16:03

My grandparents passed when I was 17, 30, 44 and 47
I can just about remember my Great grandma

CPL593H · 15/12/2021 16:13

All 4 of my grandparents were born in the 19th century, both grandfathers fought in WW1. Didn't know one pair at all, the grandfather I did died when I was a child but have great memories (he was wonderful) and my lovely Nan made it to 90, which was quite old at that time, so I knew her when an adult.

It's been so long but I still miss them a lot.

clarepetal · 15/12/2021 16:14

My last grandparent died last year when I was 42. Think I did well there.

shinynewapple21 · 15/12/2021 16:17

@ShanghaiDiva

My family tends to have children later in life so I had a grandfather born in 1879 and a grandmother born in 1891. My grandfather, father and son were all born in different centuries.

That's the same for me @ShanghaiDiva . My son is 20 born 2001, my dad was born 1927 and dad's dad in the 1800s (not sure of date, presumably 1890s).

imhavinghoops · 15/12/2021 16:17

I was 33, 34, and then 35 when the last 2 died.

I lost my only G-Gran when I was 20.

cptartapp · 15/12/2021 16:18

I lost my last GP when I was 44, My GM was 89. My GP had been married 66 years and I have lots and lots of memories.
My last parent died six months later. Sad to think my DC never knew my DF and will barely remember my DM.

Pops1985 · 15/12/2021 16:19

I’m 36 and I have all four of my grandparents still alive

Sceptre86 · 15/12/2021 16:19

16 when my grandad (dad's dad) died at 77, 18 when my grandma died at 72. I was 22 when my maternal grandad died and 24 when my nan died, both were in their late 70s. Both grandads went first, then their wives shortly after. I am 35.

My dh was 15 when his grandad died at 62, his grandma is 83 and still going strong. She is a great grandma to 10, soon to be 11 children. Dh is 42. His maternal grandad died before he was born but his nan lived until she was 72 when he was 30. Sadly we lost fil at 62.

Tigger85 · 15/12/2021 16:21

I'm 36 and have one grandparent left aged 80. My other grandparents died when I was 11, 17 and 21.

potoforchids · 15/12/2021 16:21

I'm late twenties and have one left. My mum was 53 when she lost her last grandparent!

MousesBack · 15/12/2021 16:22

My last grandpa died when I was 28
My last granny died when I was 38
Very lucky

HollaHolla · 15/12/2021 16:23

I'm the third oldest grandchild on both sides (from what we know...)
My maternal gran died before I was born (she was only in her 40s), my paternal grandmother died when I was 18, and my maternal grandad died when I was 38. I was really lucky to have him, as he was pretty much the only grandparent we ever had. My dad never knew his father, and it was a fractured family.
My mum always says how lucky she was to have her dad until she was in her 60s; he was 92, so a grand old age.

Livefortherain · 15/12/2021 16:24

I am 28 - i lost my nanny last year (she was 72 but had copd) but still have my other grandparents who are all in their mid 70s.

louderthan · 15/12/2021 16:25

I'm 40 and all my grandparents were dead by the time I was 13. They were all in their early 70s when I was born. My family breed very late, it seems!

Fabuleuse · 15/12/2021 16:25

I'm 37 and my grandparents died 6 years before I was born, and when I was 6 months, 7 and 27. My brother was born when I was 8 so he only ever had one grandparent around.

Deux · 15/12/2021 16:26

My 55 year old friend still has his maternal grandparents. Both living together and independently in their late 90s. Amazing really.

Strawberry0909 · 15/12/2021 16:28

I'm 29, still have all 4 grandparents, in their 70s and early 80s, I had one set of great grandparents still alive until I was about 4 but don't remember them

Gracie70 · 15/12/2021 16:29

Lost my last grandparent this year. I am 51

Sosigsandwich · 15/12/2021 16:45

I'm 35 and have a 91 year old Grandma and an 88 year old Grandpa, they've been married for 66 years and are both it as fiddles

WildStallyn · 15/12/2021 16:50

40, one grandparent, 88 and in pretty good health.

Willyoujustbequiet · 15/12/2021 16:50

42 when my last one died and dc met their great grandma

Unfortunately at 11 my son had lost all of his grandparents so 30 gap. Very upsetting to think about.

flipflop76 · 15/12/2021 16:52

My last surviving grandparent died when I was 34.
One set died when I was 19 and 23 and the younger set of grandparents died when I was 29 and 34.
