To say there is no worse Christmas film than Last Christmas? SPOILER WARNING

I stuck this on for a bit of background while wrapping presents and oh my goodness, it’s SO BAD. Obviously I don’t want to ruin it for the rest of you but SPOILER ALERT it’s about a woman who becomes a better person because she falls in love with the ghost of her heart transplant donor.

Can anyone top or rather bottom it?!

@A580Hojas

Well, I think it's a darn sight better than Love Actually.

Without knowing what it was about I went to watch it at the cinema with two friends who work in the NHS. One of them is a paeds transplant co-ordinator and in her job she literally sees children dying or being saved every day. She'd had a very tough day at work before we saw the film. I suddenly felt so immensely proud of her and what she does and I had a little cry. So there.

I paid to see Last Christmas without reading any of the highly critical reviews in the newspapers and am so glad I did. I adored every minute and the witticisms. I don’t get the dislike here.

I paid again to see it, this time with my dearest friend who had lost her adult son through a tragic accident two years before. It was a risk but - the ending was incredibly powerful for her. We talked for hours and she took her husband to see it and it opened a very healing conversation between them.

I’ve seen it twice at home and will watch it many more times and will laugh and cry and be dazzled by the sparkle and silliness but also remember my friend.

Thanks for sharing, A580Hojas

I sat and watched Father Christmas is Back after being recommended it by two friends, yes, TWO. It was absolutely dreadful and I will usually watch any old Christmassy tripe including all the hallmark movies because I just love the magical Christmassy feeling they give me.
For some reason I was convinced that the father would turn out to be the actual Father Christmas and so I kept watching.. and watching. But it's just a load of boring rubbish about some family getting together at Christmas and not a lot else happening. The moments that are supposed to be funny aren't at all.
I do love The Holiday and Elf though!

BigYellowHat · 15/12/2021 19:19

YABU x 100. There are so many worse films. It’s a lovely Christmas film, we think it’s great.

NerrSnerr · 15/12/2021 19:32

I loved Last Christmas and I have only just got the 'last Christmas I gave you my heart...' doh!

The cheesier the better for me!

billy1966 · 15/12/2021 19:50

I really enjoyed "Four Christmases" and "Surviving Christmas".

Both are really light, funny movies that we have watched several times with the kids and on our own. Great laugh.

DontKnowWhatToThink7 · 15/12/2021 19:53

I loved it 🤣

DontKnowWhatToThink7 · 15/12/2021 19:56

The worst one I've seen is The family stone. Horrible, depressing film with not one likeable character and it's also really bloody cringy.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/12/2021 19:58

No! I loved last Christmas! Hadn't read any reviews, thought it would be another boring rom com, but it wasn't.

Elf on the other hand... can hardly bear the memory of watching that and it was years ago.

PilesEdgeworth · 15/12/2021 19:59

We watched Deck the Halls yesterday. A standard, bad Christmas movie but a few jokes land.

Jingle all the Way, on the other hand...

PilesEdgeworth · 15/12/2021 20:02

Wait, just remembered the actual worst Christmas movie I’ve seen - Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.

It’s on YouTube for your viewing pleasure...

Santa claus vs the devil on YouTube is also an.... interesting watch 🤣🤣

Never thought I’d do a trigger warning about a Christmas film, but here we go…

god I'm about to kill this thread, I'm so sorry.

Hands down Jack Frost. NOT the Michael Keaton one, which was what my mom and I thought we were going to watch together, but the one about the killer snowman. It’s billed as a ‘comedy slasher’ film which includes a scene with Shannon Elizabeth where she’s taking a bath and then water starts turning into slush and then snow and then the killer snowman forms, but his carrot nose is now his penis and he (you can guess, not typing it in case someone kids are reading over their shoulder), ending the scene with ‘Looks like Christmas came a little early this year! Well, I hope it was good for you honey. Oh, I must remember to send flowers’.

Yep. Watched that. With my mom.

sunshineandshowers40 · 15/12/2021 20:36

I enjoyed it after my second attempt. All Christmassy and cheesy!

Now a castle for Christmas is terrible, I had to switch it off.

icecreamgirl94 · 15/12/2021 20:41

Aww I liked it, by no means my favourite Christmas film but still good.
We tried Father Christmas Is Back a few weeks ago, turned off after 10 minutes, the acting was tragic!
Jingle All The Way is shockingly bad too, I watched it with a friend a few years back when she said it was the best Christmas film ever. We are no longer friends 😂

By far the best though is The Santa Clause, just lovely 🥰

Holothane · 15/12/2021 21:20

I loathe John Cleese acting in fact I refuse two watch two Mathew Modine films because John Cleese is in them.

gukvguk · 15/12/2021 21:21

Love Hard is so much better!

Also liked Single All the Way despite the lack of chemistry between the couple.

Holothane · 15/12/2021 21:22

I hated white Christmas it wasn’t Christmassy and if I hear the song sisters again it will be too soon for for me.

theluckiest · 15/12/2021 22:18

This time last year, I woke up feeling dreadful at 4am. I had to wait until 9am for a COVID test so watched 'Last Christmas' while I shivered on the sofa.

Turns out that even when your resistance is low and you want something mindless to watch, it's still utter drivel. Made me feel even worse. And yes, I was positive.

Just to clarify:

It's a Wonderful Life is gorgeous and timeless.

Love Actually is horrid and depressing in so many ways (Martine McCutcheon fat?? Since when? Hmm)

Die Hard is most definitely a Christmas movie. A damn good one

Holothane · 15/12/2021 22:27

Die Hard tops the lot fabulous film

Vanillalime · 15/12/2021 23:37

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the fantastically awful Christmas On The Square starring Dolly Parton that was released last year.

My fave Christmas film is The Muppets Christmas Carol but I must admit, my guilty pleasure is curling up on the sofa on a Saturday afternoon & watching crappy channel 5 Christmas movies 🎅🏻🎄🍿

I've never heard of this, but you clearly win. This sounds like the worst film ever, not just the worst Christmas film!
ODFOgrinch · 16/12/2021 00:07

@Tothemoonandbackx

Father Christmas is Back (2021), it's got John Cleese, Kelsey Grammar, Caroline Quentin, you know, some not too bad actors, but MY GOD!!!! it's just beyond painful to watch, I tried, I really did, my sister said she watched 30 minutes and switched off, I beat her by 30 minutes and 1 second, and even then, it's because I wanted to see how bad it got X
I was amused by the fact that all the 'daughters' had the same procedures, so the only woman with a natural face was the lovely Caroline Quentin who ended up playing love interest to a man 20 years her senior and the mother of a woman only 5 years younger with terrible Botox and fillers. The world's gone mad.
JeffThePilot · 16/12/2021 00:22

Last Christmas is pretty dire. Obvious storyline and bad acting, though I concede the leads had very little to work with in terms of script.

Love Actually is worse.

I paid to see both those films in the cinema. I never learn.

However the worst Christmas movie, for me, is something I watched accidentally recently, called Snowmance. If 4Chan produced Christmas movies… the main plot seemed to be an attractive but two dimensional female lead has a male friend secretly in love with her while obviously complaining about being friend zoned/why does she never notice what’s right in front of her type self-obsessed, entitled navel gazing. Of course she ends up with him in the end, suddenly magically realising she’s actually in love with him and he’s wonderful and not creepy at all.

I shouted a lot at the tv and then looked up the director and writer who were both plain looking middle aged men and I was very much not shocked by that. Don’t make a romance film if you don’t understand romance, guys.

I watched something on Amazon tonight called A Very Nutty Christmas. Honestly never seen anything like it. Thinking of live tweeting it, it was that bizarre.

My favourite, though, is Christmas Magic (Hallmark) for the fact the man sings a terrible song with his keyboard at the end which somehow brings the woman out of her coma and prompts a miraculous sudden and complete recovery, with her makeup unblemished by her weeks unconscious.

JollyHostess · 16/12/2021 00:40

@CeratopsofthePharoahs

Jingle All The Way is a terrible film.

My favourite Christmas movie is Krampus, though so I'm probably not the best person to comment.

Oh Krampus is highly superior, I agree.
