To say there is no worse Christmas film than Last Christmas? SPOILER WARNING

I stuck this on for a bit of background while wrapping presents and oh my goodness, it’s SO BAD. Obviously I don’t want to ruin it for the rest of you but SPOILER ALERT it’s about a woman who becomes a better person because she falls in love with the ghost of her heart transplant donor.

Can anyone top or rather bottom it?!

I love it

TopTabby · 15/12/2021 13:42

I usually like Emma Thompson but her part in Last Christmas was utterly cringe worthy. I think she was involved in the writing & directing too so no excuses.
I had to re-watch Love Actually (another love/hate film!) to remind myself that she can be really good.

Boood · 15/12/2021 13:42

@LittleBabyCheeses maybe they thought Croatia would sue over Emma Thompson’s horrendous stereotyped performance. And why did she have a Russian accent?!

A580Hojas · 15/12/2021 13:43

Well, I think it's a darn sight better than Love Actually.

Without knowing what it was about I went to watch it at the cinema with two friends who work in the NHS. One of them is a paeds transplant co-ordinator and in her job she literally sees children dying or being saved every day. She'd had a very tough day at work before we saw the film. I suddenly felt so immensely proud of her and what she does and I had a little cry. So there.

thetinsoldier · 15/12/2021 13:43

I enjoyed Last Christmas! Boo, humbug!

Nidan2Sandan · 15/12/2021 13:45

I love Henry Golding which is why I watched it and I actually quite enjoyed it Grin

I watched an awful Ben Affleck xmas film last year, where he hired a family for xmas. Cant remember what it was called but it was dreadful.

If you want a funny xmas film, watch Bad Moms at Christmas but NOT with the kids Smile also The Holiday.

ineedsun · 15/12/2021 13:45

How can anyone not like Elf?! Do you have no soul?

cloudtree · 15/12/2021 13:46

It’s appalling. We put it on at the weekend and after the first 15 minutes I wanted to switch it off. Emilia Clarkes acting is dreadful. It’s stilted and awkward to watch.

Music is good

Figgygal · 15/12/2021 13:46

Oh its ghastly and obvious but it's not as bad as the holiday

CrimbleCrumble1 · 15/12/2021 13:46

I didn’t like it at all but all my friends raved about it. Usually I love Christmas films and give them at least 2/10 more than I normally would just because they are Christmas themed.

mincepiesallround · 15/12/2021 13:50

Oh I forgot they’d made a Bad Moms Christmas film! Now that I want to see.

@PicaK

I really enjoyed it, actually. It's offensive and family friendly. Your spoiler otoh is really mean and horrible.
Oh behave ffs
Bonnealle · 15/12/2021 13:55

But Yugoslavia isn’t just Croatia? It’s Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia. I think it would have been more offensive to refer to it as Croatia, as people of that generation do refer to themselves as former Yugoslavs.

I can top it. I actually paid to see that in the cinema.
belimoo · 15/12/2021 14:06

@Username916

We put office christmas party on last night and I had to turn it off midway. Terrible.
I have just switched this off after persevering for half an hour. Dreadful and boring film!
DickMabutt73962 · 15/12/2021 14:07

@Funkyslippers

I didn't think Last Christmas was as bad as the reviews suggested. It wasn't great though.

I know this is controversial bit I cannot stand Love Actually apart from the 5 mins that Rowan Atkinson is I'm it

I think those 5 mins make it worth it though, I remember laughing so much the first time I saw it I had tears streaming down my face
TuftyMarmoset · 15/12/2021 14:08

@NotSorry

We love the Princess Switch films - they're so bad they're good Grin
I think the weirdest part was the place names! Why on earth did they choose Wembley for the baking contest? Ok Belgravia not everyone might know that’s an area of London but I’m pretty sure everyone in this country and some others if they are football fans has heard of Wembley. And it doesn’t even sound like a fancy fairytale name! Confused
waltzingparrot · 15/12/2021 14:11

Feel sorry for me.... I actually paid full Odeon ticket price to watch it at the cinema, pre covid.

DickMabutt73962 · 15/12/2021 14:12

@RocketPanda

It's a wonderful shite life is the worst Christmas film imo.
Agreed! It's so overrated, it's about an hour too long
Bigboysmademedoit · 15/12/2021 14:13

Father Christmas is Back is truly awful! Last Christmas has an element of charm but pretty dire - and I love Christmas movies Xmas Shock

Camandmitch · 15/12/2021 14:14

Jingle All the Way is the ultimate 💩 film.

Christmas with the Kranks is my absolute favourite Xmas film but I appreciate the badness of it Grin

JudgeJ · 15/12/2021 14:17

OP's clearly not watching some of the American stuff on the CHristmas channels. The abridged versions, there are two:-

  1. High flying female from the Big City returns, reluctantly, to her tiny hometown, usually thigh deep in snow although she manages on 4 inch heels. She finds out that the local bakery, Inn, etc is going to have to close because of some corporate baddie, often her own employer. With the aid of her former boyfriend who still lives there, usually widowed with cute children, she saves the bakery, Inn etc and decides to give up the job she's slogged hard to get to live on the tiny town and marry the handsome widower, who is a doctor, vet, teacher.

2, High flying male, despises Christmas, meets up with a kind female who likes helping people. Through her he becomes a Good Guy.

It's usually necessary to only read the few Info words to know the ending!

Tomatalillo · 15/12/2021 14:18

I tried to watch this the other day and hated it.

Even half watching I still had to turn it off after 20 minutes or so. So glad I didn’t bother to get to the twist!

PanettoneSeason · 15/12/2021 14:19

@Camandmitch

Jingle All the Way is the ultimate 💩 film.

@Camandmitch wash your mouth out 😮😉 Jingle All The Way is bloody great 🤣🤣
Abouttimemum · 15/12/2021 14:21

I couldn’t get past Emilia Clark’s dreadful acting. Really distracting. I don’t remember her being that bad in game of thrones.
