To say there is no worse Christmas film than Last Christmas? SPOILER WARNING

I stuck this on for a bit of background while wrapping presents and oh my goodness, it’s SO BAD. Obviously I don’t want to ruin it for the rest of you but SPOILER ALERT it’s about a woman who becomes a better person because she falls in love with the ghost of her heart transplant donor.

Can anyone top or rather bottom it?!

I loved Last Christmas and I cried at the end. And I loved A Castle for Christmas too, Cary Elwes is still super hot and it was nice to see a romance between older characters for a change.

Anothernamechange3 · 15/12/2021 15:21

Anyone watched ‘Single All The Way’ on Netflix yet?

Excited101 · 15/12/2021 15:26

I watched it Another wasn’t over keen.

SiobhanSharpe · 15/12/2021 15:53

Not strictly a Christmas film but among the really, truly awful dross that seems to have appeared on AmazonPrime/Netflix recently, i give you ....A Birthday Wish.
Totally anodyne, sappy romance with no sex and zero chemistry between the two leads, and an especially drippy leading man.
There -- saved you the bother of watching it. (I believe it's a Hallmark Film. Didn't spot that until afterwards. )
On the other hand, The Holidate is not absolutely dreadful. Fairly raunchy and with the odd laugh.

SiobhanSharpe · 15/12/2021 16:02

I didn't mind Last Christmas -- the two leading actors are very easy on the eye, which helps, even though it's somewhat annoying in parts. (And obvious.) But i liked the music, who wouldn't?
As for Emma Thompson -- no further comment.

@Tothemoonandbackx

Father Christmas is Back (2021), it's got John Cleese, Kelsey Grammar, Caroline Quentin, you know, some not too bad actors, but MY GOD!!!! it's just beyond painful to watch, I tried, I really did, my sister said she watched 30 minutes and switched off, I beat her by 30 minutes and 1 second, and even then, it's because I wanted to see how bad it got X
Yes!!! The only Christmas film I’ve actually hated. To make it worse my husband had finally agreed to watch a Christmas film and I picked that rubbish based on the cast.
Tastyyellowbeef · 15/12/2021 16:06

I must have really bad taste because I love this film 😂

ScribblingPixie · 15/12/2021 16:06

@Squeezita

YANBU, we couldn't get beyond the first of Last Christmas, total crap.

For the best heart transplant romantic Christmas movie, look no further than Untamed Heart with Marisa Tomei and Christian Slater.

Oh I LOVED that film. Marisa Tomei's so great in everything though.
petridishmystery · 15/12/2021 16:13

@Chasingaftermidnight

The Holiday is the worst.
I like The Holiday but only Jack and Kate, I’ve got zero interest in Cameron and Jude. I know the whole premise is the house swap but I’d rather have just watched a full film of J&K!
CeratopsofthePharoahs · 15/12/2021 16:21

Jingle All The Way is a terrible film.

My favourite Christmas movie is Krampus, though so I'm probably not the best person to comment.

You mean "Last Christmas, I gave you my heart" - is taken absolutely literally in this film?
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/12/2021 16:26

Emilia Clark’s acting in GoT has been criticised a lot to be fair - just to the poster who questioned this. It gets worse as the scripts get worse.

DominickTheItalianXmasDonkey · 15/12/2021 16:28

😂 Wow they really took the lyrics literally.
I want to watch it now to see how bad it is.

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/12/2021 16:30

EC DEFINITELY gets worse in GOT as they run out of book material.

Puffinhead · 15/12/2021 16:35

@Chasingaftermidnight

The Holiday is the worst.
I wholeheartedly concur. It is utter tripe.
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/12/2021 16:39

Same here DominickTheItalianXmasDonkey Grin I was aware of the movie but not that interested in a traditional rom-com. Now might watch it over the Christmas break!

Dumbledoresgirl · 15/12/2021 16:41

I quite enjoyed Last Christmas. I mean, yes, it's schmalzy candy floss, but I had no pre-conceived idea what it was about and I found the twist mentioned in the OP a bit of a surprise and a bit different to most Christmas films.

I am not a big watcher of fluff like this but i have also seen The Holiday (twice) and it really is the biggest load of shite ever. Even the god awful Love Actually has some feel good moments. The Holiday is just embarrassing.

CheesyMother · 15/12/2021 17:02

@kavalkada

I liked Last Chistmas, but I like Emilia Clarke in enerything, so...

But to clarify few things about Croatians and that film.
I am from Croatia and when I saw that film in the cinema, all theatre laughed so hard.
I had bit of a trouble with their timeline, but this is how I understood it.

Croatia gained independence in 1992, but Yugoslavia lasted 11 years after that, just Serbia and Montenegro.
The family in the movie probably lived in Vojvodina, a part of former Yugoslavia, that has large croatian minority, before moving to UK.
So, they got that facts all right.

But one thing they so so did wrong was that outside christmas decoration on their house.
Croatians DO NOT decorate their houses on the outside. There was one man in the whole country who did that and he became so famous that he made a business of that.

They will mabye put a little light in the window or in thw balcony, but 90 per cent of people are not going to bother even with that.

I love reading middle class vs working class christmas in UK, because according to those lists, we in Croatia all or middle class.

Interesting to hear a Croatian perspective on the timeline - that had bothered me!

But I don’t think they had got the Christmas decorations wrong - it’s not her family house which is decorated, it’s the one next door. Her house has zero decorations!

loveablequalities · 15/12/2021 17:03

Just Friends (is it a Christmas movie? I say yes) is absolutely appalling. I watched it last night while doing cards and wrapping. It was just beyond terrible.

I love that film, it's stupidly hilarious.
LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 15/12/2021 18:39

I watched Father Christmas is back for Elizabeth Hurleys outfits 😂

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 15/12/2021 18:42

Single All the Way wasn't great - very obvious

notanothertakeaway · 15/12/2021 18:48

@Justwhy123

I loved Last Christmas! Unexpected storyline and the music, well…just amazing! (Love George!)

Why was “A castle for Christmas” so offensive to Scottish people?

@Justwhy123

Haven't seen it yet, but I think it's (1) lazy stereotypes about Scottish people and (2) shocking accents, instead of using Scottish actors

Gingernaut · 15/12/2021 18:49

If you go online to My5.tv, you have a massive list of Christmas films which are execrable.

hangrylady · 15/12/2021 18:53

Nobody has mentioned Home Alone. My ultimate favourite.
