How do people keep voting in the tories?

chaosmaker · 14/12/2021 11:19

I'd love it if tory voters could say why they vote the way they do given that there's ample evidence for how utterly incompetent they are (11 years). Especially in the last election. With that not-fit-for-purpose idiot in charge - edited by MNHQ
I also keep writing to my MP saying that if they are going to pretend we have democracy then they need to scrap FPTP.

AIBU that we should allow people with no sense to vote or
AINBU am I right in that people should have to factor history and rare sense into their decision making?

@MidnightMeltdown

I've never voted Tory in my life, but I've also stopped voting Labour (didn't vote the last couple of elections). I'm sick to death of the hard left goading and insulting people for their voting decisions as if it's some sort of crime not to think and vote the way that they do. Most of these people are well off and have zero idea of what it's like to be poor or to struggle.

While I wouldn't vote Tory myself, I don't have a problem with anybody who does. It is their right to choose how they want to vote, as much as it is anybody else's. The hard left appear have turned into the Nazi party and are unelectable as far as I'm concerned.

Pray do tell exactly how the "hard left" (whatever you define that as) are like the Nazi Party.
Berlinkreuzberg · 20/12/2021 22:54

@MidnightMeltdown so do the tories know what it's like to be poor ? The ones who were forced into listening to Marcus Rashford or were happy to cut UC ?

Gargellen · 21/12/2021 10:32

Because Labour hate business and the tiny bit of business we now have is all we have.
Under a Labour government, businesses would leave this country in droves and we will have fuck all.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 As opposed to our Prime Minister who famously said "fuck business" www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-44618154

@Hrpuffnstuff1

Who are the working classes?
Anyone who couldn’t survive without going to work every day and collecting a wage which encompasses far more people than people would like to admit. A tiny amount of people have more than three months savings in the bank which means they’re three months away from the streets quite literally. They are the better off working class.

Because Labour can't spend money we don't have.
How will they bribe the country when covid used it all up. Ergo Tory Govenment.

Where the fuck do people keep getting this bullshit?

Berlinkreuzberg · 21/12/2021 15:58

@Gargellen did business leave the UK in droves in 1997 ? Were all utility companies nationalised ? Were farms forced into collectives ? Tories have mismanaged the economy for years even under dear mrs T. But sadly the electorate are taken in by a flash suit, plummy accent and public school demeanour.

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/12/2021 18:34

Having got this far, it seems that people keep voting Tory because they dont know the first thing about them.🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Bollindger · 22/12/2021 19:04

Having been around for Many Decades.. I know that Labour get in during the good times. When things see to be going well in the UK and people are shouting time for a change.
People are scared right now, Labour DO NOT project trust . How hard is it too see this facts are linked. Look how JC lost due to credibility with the public. Look how Boris gathered Labour strong holds. No matter what you say, the results back this.

See the "I-read-the-Daily-Mail-and-I'm-proud-of-it" thread!

Is there really such a thread 😱. Why would anybody advertise their ignorance and prejudice and post it as a badge of honour?

XingMing · 22/12/2021 20:10

@StoneofDestiny... I am not quite sure how to break this news to you without upsetting anyone, but the Daily Mail sells a ton of papers to elderly people on the back of cheaper prices. My DM, clued up and intelligent, can no longer afford the Times everyday. She prefers it and is very happy to mangle it at our house, but at home she buys the Mail because it costs half what the Times does, and it delivers the information albeit with a spin we don't like much.

@THisbackwithavengeance

In answer to the original question: I voted Tory because a) I don't believe in a nanny state, b) I dislike London based pseudo socialists who despise the working classes they purport to represent, c) they had no clear direction on Brexit and I was sick of the whole shitshow and d) I didn't think Corbyn and any of his proposed cabinet could hold themselves on an international political stage.

Does that answer your question? I am Northern though although not thick having got a first class honors degree back in the day when degrees were not 10 a penny. HTH.

And the Tories love the working classes don't they...

"Out of interest, when was the last time you bought sustainably caught British fish? Does it appear every week in your trolley?

No. Thought not. Until Britain eats its own catch, the industry will be in trouble.

Britain imports the fish it eats and exports the fish it catches. Absolutely crazy."

No as a vegetarian sustainably caught British fish or otherwise has most certainly not appeared in my trolley . It is hardly my responsibility to change the British Palate with its predilection for cod and haddock , a lot of which hails from the Icelandic, Norwegian and Barents Seas.

Actually , it is.
TooBigForMyBoots · 23/12/2021 01:40

The right wing press in Britain have certainly influenced opinions and votes. It's not just another way to call people thick to say so.Xmas Hmm

For example, they managed to convince people that Johnson's Conservative government could be trusted to save lead them, despite all the many, extensive, proven, actually verified facts, and history, indicating the opposite.🤯

AuntyBumBum · 23/12/2021 01:57

Because when your wages, conditions and job & home security are diminished by deregulating the job market and the housing market you vote for change.

@C8H10N4O2

FFS just about the only employment protection we have comes from EU directives. And absolutely none of it, not one jot, comes from Tories. If this is offered as proof that leave voters at the bottom of heap made a sensible decision, or that change can only make things better and that they can't be any worse off than they were in the EU, I remain speechless unconvinced!

SunscreenCentral · 23/12/2021 02:25

Op, don't worry about it. Sit back and watch it burn.

They're never going to see, and when/if, it'll be too late

SunscreenCentral · 23/12/2021 02:32

Britain is in big, big trouble. It's going to take a minimum of 50 years to undo the current damage and that's conservative.

You all need to get rid of FPTP, it's killing you.

granny24 · 23/12/2021 04:41

Because people would much rather we didn’t have NHS, the welfare state, proper paid holidays, secondary education for everyone, the Open University, free entry to museums and art galleries, child benefits etc etc etc. Give me ONE thing the Tories have ever introduced for ordinary people. Oh I was forgetting legal aid, especially for women in vulnerable situations.Keep voting for them ladies.

SexyNeckbeard · 23/12/2021 06:14

If only tory voters would just stay home on voting day, we could all be living in Utopia

Mercurial123 · 23/12/2021 11:20

The idea that "just about the only employment protection we have comes from EU directives" is simply factually incorrect.
7eleven · 23/12/2021 11:57

Because they’re selfish bastards who don’t give a monkeys about vulnerable members of society.
