To think IACGMOOH is cruel?

Why is it OK to use animals for entertainment, why is it OK to pour different types of critters on top of others, why don't we care that they are sacrificed for our entertainment?
Why don't we care that animal parts are put to waste?
IABU - who gives a fuck if insects die, its TV gold
IANBU- it's tasteless to use living things for entertainment?

We turned it off there. Sick

@Pegasussnail

We turned it off there. Sick
I don't watch it, what happened?
Howeverdoyouneedme · 12/12/2021 21:36

Agree. It’s so weird to do this to insects.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 12/12/2021 21:37

Agree. I can’t think why people find this entertaining.

Pegasussnail · 12/12/2021 21:38

Pigs eyeballs

I actually love the programme but it literally makes me feel sick EnvyGrin

So I have one eye on the TV and a cushion to hide behind

DrNo007 · 12/12/2021 21:38

Agree, the cruelty makes me feel ill. I cannot watch these things.

Elzbells · 12/12/2021 21:40

Yes, the helmet thing I thought was really cruel. All those insects poured on top of each other and then tipped on the floor to probably be swept up and incinerated. The poor crickets trying to jump out of the hole.

I really don't find this entertaining and I think using any animal in this way should be banned.

MrzClaus · 12/12/2021 21:41

YANBU!

I think the eating weird animal parts (as a by product of the meat industry) is sort of explainable, but not killing thousands on insects / critters for absolutely no reason.

Weird line to have (I assume some people think if you're okay killing for meat, then why have a line!) but I find it really uncomfortable to watch.

EachandEveryone · 12/12/2021 21:41

I know I wonder what their excuse is?

RoseRedRoseBlue · 12/12/2021 21:43

The whole thing is nasty, tacky and exploitative.

Ledkr · 12/12/2021 21:43

No its horrible. Chris packham has been campaigning for a while now about it.
When they used to eat live bugs I couldn't get over their lack of concern.

PilesEdgeworth · 12/12/2021 21:45

Of course it’s cruel. The RSPCA have previously condemned it. It’s astounding to me how many people still tune in but clearly this sort of abuse has its fanbase.

TooManyAnimals94 · 12/12/2021 21:45

The trials with the critters make me a little uncomfortable but I feel really sorry for the snakes. They are not social creatures and should not be piled on top of each other like that. They look so stressed 😔 also, probably cold poor bastards as its December in Wales!
I stopped watching a few years ago when someone had to eat a live spider...I can't have been the only one as they don't eat live things anymore.

Insectscount · 12/12/2021 21:45

I don't watch it but flicked over to see this and was bemused. Agree about the crickets trying to jump out, how can mainstream TV support this?

Does anyone remember when Clive James had a show where he showed clips of Japanese game shows doing exactly this sort of thing? There was a bit of a racist undercurrent to it, it was all us laughing at them for being weird/uncivilised. Now we're doing even worse things.

LittleDandelionClock · 12/12/2021 21:47

YANBU. It's awfully cruel to animals/insects. Surprised it's still allowed to happen tbh.

firstimemamma · 12/12/2021 21:49

Yanbu it's terrible.

Seemslikeagoodidea · 12/12/2021 21:51

Agreed. I'm not keen on insects or snakes generally, but I don't like to see them exploited in this way, crowded together in layers. Some of them must get injured/hurt/squashed. It's good they no longer eat live creatures but they need to stop this other stuff too.

MousesBack · 12/12/2021 21:54

I wrote to the TV company about it after the very first series and every series since. 91% of Mumsnet respondents agree with me. It's abhorrent. Why don't they listen?

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 12/12/2021 21:59

YANBU. It is baffling that this show is still being made and even worse that anyone actually watches it!

PinkyPromises · 12/12/2021 22:01

Yes I can't stand it. It's bizarre that the whole world is becoming more aware of cruelty/plant based eating but this is entertainment Confused

powershowerforanhour · 12/12/2021 22:01

I think it encourages disrespect for living creatures. Yes they are commercially bred insects for feeding reptiles and things but at least that's a proper purpose. The purpose of these is for people to flap and squeal and laugh like drains, it's just stupid.

Our children get taught about nature properly on shows like "Fern and Rory's Teeny Tiny Creatures" where the presenters are calm and interesting and foster a good attitude towards these types of creatures, then it all gets cancelled out by this shit. Why encourage people to be disgusted by living creatures and reinforce that attitude?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 12/12/2021 22:02

I don't have a problem with eating off cuts from an animal ie an eyeball, testicle, penis etc as it's kinda what I assume is in generic sausages anyways. If the animal has already been killed then I'm fine with people consume the less wanted parts, however I agree re the critters.

It's easy to forget that they are living things as we all probably squish or kill insects on a daily basis just going about our business (flies on the front of a car, ants and spiders that are stepped on, worms chopped in half while gardening etc), but I don't think there is any need to just be cruel!

GoodnightGrandma · 12/12/2021 22:03

I agree. It’s pathetic.

MynameisWa · 12/12/2021 22:04

I don’t like it. I watch it because my family like it. Have always thought it cruel. Heard today that a camp mate threw a beetle in the fire once years ago and everyone went ape shit at her saying it was cruel.

And then the same people went off to do a trial where they no doubt squashed thousands of poor creatures whilst rolling around screaming.

Hypocrites.

I think it’s days are perhaps numbered in light of the vegan movement.

It definitely will not age well and I fear for the ‘persecution by association’ in the future when more enlightened generations look back and judge.
