To think IACGMOOH is cruel?

Why is it OK to use animals for entertainment, why is it OK to pour different types of critters on top of others, why don't we care that they are sacrificed for our entertainment?
Why don't we care that animal parts are put to waste?
IABU - who gives a fuck if insects die, its TV gold
IANBU- it's tasteless to use living things for entertainment?

I’m terrified of snakes and rats but don’t like seeing them used for entertainment in this way.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 14/12/2021 06:46

It is utterly horrifying.

I recall one years ago - the only one I’ve ever watched - when they each had a glass box to sleep in that was filled with creatures: rats, snakes, insects. It was appalling how the creatures were all squashed up, all night. I found it distressing and have never watched it since.

I can’t believe this cruel exploitative trash is still going on, and am inclined to agree with a PPs ‘garbage’ comment.

OverByYer · 14/12/2021 06:47

I think people are bored of the program now anyway, they lost lots of viewers along the way. I haven’t watched the last few series as it’s so predictable and dull.

Lobelia123 · 14/12/2021 06:48

I agree with you. I used to hate Fear Factor for the same reasons.

LetHimHaveIt · 14/12/2021 07:20

'Wow, bit harsh there. Calling people garbage because they watch a programme you dislike is pretty judgemental.

The trials are just one part of the programme, the rest is basically people watching, which can be interesting as the personalities get to know each other and let their guards down. Ant and Dec's humour is not exactly sophisticated, but I enjoy their commentary and daft jokes.'

I don't simply 'dislike' it - I save 'dislike' for shows like 'Holby City' and 'Tipping Point', and people who say 'wow' and enjoy Ant & Dec's 'daft jokes'. This show is unpleasantly cruel and sadistic and I have to question the mentality of anyone who enjoys it. That's not 'judgmental' (which btw means 'overly critical') that's utterly sound criticism. Looks like it's had its day, anyway, and will on the way out shortly. Good riddance.

Comedycook · 14/12/2021 07:26

I hate seeing people do something horrible on order to get food...I very much judge people who think that is entertainment.

Comedycook · 14/12/2021 07:29

*in order

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 14/12/2021 07:30

Agreed @LetHimHaveIt

How anyone can watch cruelty on the telly, continue to be entertained and not switch off is beyond me; and challenges my faith in human nature.
I actually think there should be prosecutions for how animals have been treated on this trashy programme.

ShonkyWonkyDonkey · 14/12/2021 07:36

Not watched for years due to their use of animals, I'm shocked that are still allowed to use them really!

MynameisWa · 14/12/2021 07:50

I watch it as my family like it and they already think I’m highly strung so I let it go. This year it started off us all gathered together and then bit by bit DD lost interest and DS sat on phone. So next year it’s banned again (I had previously banned it on grounds it was unsuitable for young kids).

It was soo boring anyway. Everyone hamming it up for the camera.

If they want to make something similar it would be good to actually drop the trials and put people in the wilderness and make them survive

The show needs to avoid cruelty to animals and focus on people having bust ups as all the comradery is dull they come out bffs.

TremendouslyJolly · 14/12/2021 08:13

@LetHimHaveIt

It's a garbage program for garbage human beings.
This. Anyone who supports this show by watching it is a prick.
TillyTopper · 14/12/2021 08:23

In all honestly I don't care about the insects. But the "trials" just make me feel sick. I watched a few episodes last year but haven't watched it at all this year. I think the over the top trials which are just more extreme in terms of filth, insects, stench etc are ridiculous. If enough people turn off they'll stop.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 14/12/2021 08:25

Filth and stench is fine if that's your bag, but theres no reason or justification whatsoever to make animals suffer for this "entertainment".

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 14/12/2021 08:29

"The whole thing is nasty, tacky and exploitative."

As @RoseRedRoseBlue says!

malificent7 · 14/12/2021 08:36

Yanbu...i havn't watched it for years because of this. Awful show.

Tinygem · 14/12/2021 08:50

YANBU, don't understand how anyone finds it entertaining, it's vile.

CounsellorTroi · 14/12/2021 09:11

I’ve never watched it because of the cruelty.

And the world needs more Chris Packhams.

SanFranBear · 14/12/2021 09:29

I must admit, the trials which don't use animals are always more creative and theee are ways to do 'gross' without it involving critters..

I do agree with pp's about the eating though - its no different to eating other cuts of meat. That said, they do offer vegetarian/vegan alternatives such as fermented fruits etc so it could be done.. just perhaps not as Shock

I agree. It uses cruelty to animals, and debasement of 'slebs', to 'entertain' & profit from the vaccous who get a cheap thrill out of someone else's manufactured packaged distress to distract them from their own lives a la 'bread & circuses'. Its not 'entertainment'. It's lowest common denominator dross.
ImustLearn2Cook · 14/12/2021 09:58

I’ve never watched it. The examples of some of what they do on the show are shocking.

I remember when I was a child, at the end of a show or movie that had animals in it there would be a message that said no animals were harmed in the making of this film.

When and why has this so obviously changed, to become acceptable to hurt animals in a tv show?

mugoftea456 · 14/12/2021 10:13

I remember one year someone had to eat a live spider, awful !

I think the show is really outdated

Youdoyoutoday · 14/12/2021 10:27

It's grim but never ceases to amaze me what people will do to stay in the limelight, I'd rather remain in obscurity than be subjected to eating or being submerged in animal parts or insects. 🤢

Youdoyoutoday · 14/12/2021 10:29

I don't watch it though

EvilPea · 14/12/2021 10:29

There’s new evidence to suggest insects do feel pain etc.

But arrogant humans believe just because they aren’t made like us, they can’t.
