I was intimate with a partner this weekend and he has arm and back tattoos…. Tribal type. I’m really turned of him….

I'm getting the feeling that people in the UK are a bit judgemental and old fashioned when it comes to tattoos

The vast majority of people really don't care, this is not representative of RL at all!

inmyslippers · 13/12/2021 10:13

Just don't date people with tattoos 🤷🏽‍♀️

honkytonkheroe · 13/12/2021 10:18

I hate tattoos. My husband has none. I guess I am a bit judgemental about them. As a rule, I link them with low intelligence and I know that there are exceptions to this. Therefore, if a had a partner who didn't fit this rule, provided they weren't excessive, I'd probably have no problem with them.

GrumpyTerrier · 13/12/2021 10:19

So I am chavvy, who knew! The last time someone called me chavvy was when I was about 14 and a chav from school called me a chav (which greatly perplexed me).

As for being rubbish, tasteless, classless and unoriginal, I'm pretty sure that some people would call me 3 out of 4 of those things Grin

God bless MN. Sometimes its like stepping back in time here.

Low intelligence Grin

I suspect that sweeping judgements based on cosmetic appearance is a much more accurate marker of low intelligence and certainly of a lack of critical thinking

Well I'm pleased to hear that - some of the comments on this thread are appalling. Tattoos do not make a person.

honkytonkheroe · 13/12/2021 22:49

@WaltzingBetty I work for a Criminal Law law firm. My view is based on the fact that at least 95% of my clients have tattoos. None of the solicitors, Barristers or Judges I know do. Not one.

And what does that I mean? Do you ask clients, solicitors, barristers and judges, if they have them? Or has every person in those professions, that you know been underdressed in front of you?

I knew a QC who had tattoos. Not ones you would be aware of unless he was undressed

I work I the private sector. As a director. Most of the directors have tattoos. Several have extensive. Not criminals. Very professional men and women (Including the ones who head up our legal department) who have tattoos.

Its a real shame you seem to categorise people into groups, depending on body art.

Well none that they are admitting to unless you have seen them all naked.
Your comments are staggeringly ignorant and judgemental.
I can only assume you live in your own Rose tinted "little world"

That you know of.
For all you know, they all have massive back pieces and arse tattoos and all kinds of ink in places that they cover in court.

I know several solicitors with tattoos. Not sure about judges as they are generally fully covered in court, long sleeves etc. I might see if I can find out!

I attend court regularly (not as a criminal) and don’t cover my leg tattoos.

I think people who make sweeping judgements like this must have pretty low intelligence.

Wow, can I come and work in your field of work? Obviously everyone gets naked every few weeks to check for tattoos - sounds like such fun! What a judgemental ignorant person you sound.

This statement tells me far more about you than it does anyone with a tattoo, and a rude word springs to mind.

eurochick · 14/12/2021 05:15

I hate them and find them a turn off too. But I did once shag an ex army type who had one and I found that attractive but that whole relationship was weird - he was not objectively attractive but I couldn't stay away from him. I blame pheromones or something. On anyone else I think they look shit.

There are two barristers at our rugby club, both quite heavily tattooed, seeing your team mate naked in the showers is normal, having people strip off in a law firms offices not so normal.

BigYellowHat · 14/12/2021 06:40

Completely personal choice. I’m not a fan but if I loved the person enough I’d be fine with it. DH has got a god awful one that he hates and we’re going to save up to get it removed in a couple of years. Luckily it’s the only one though!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/12/2021 06:53

Are solicitors, barristers and judges the only intelligent people in society then? Hmm

Oneforthemoneytwo · 14/12/2021 07:52

Possibly the daftest comment of all time. What you mean is that none of the barristers or judges you know which can be seen when they’re in their work clothes because you have no idea if they have tattoos. My brother is a senior partner in a city firm. He has numerous tattoos but The ones in his arms are above tshirt level so that they can’t be seen at work regardless of what he’s wearing in the office and the rest are over his back and chest. Funnily enough he doesn’t tend to go topless at work so I imagine his colleagues and clients might also be able to categorically state he has no tattoos

Oneforthemoneytwo · 14/12/2021 07:55

I have to say though that I really dislike neck and face tattoos and that would put me off going out with someone. I can’t quite say why as I am fine with anywhere else.

Comedycook · 14/12/2021 07:57

I don't link them to low intelligence or anything like that but I find them rather dehumanising...

nobodysdaughter · 14/12/2021 08:27

As a tattooist I always find these threads interesting!

Of COURSE it's up to you who you find attractive and who you choose to have sex with - if this guy doesn't do it for you, for whatever reason, then don't see him again. Simple.

Lots of men have HUGE tribal tattoos they regret these days, they are almost impossible to cover/laser off, maybe that was the case with this man? (Incidentally I did a large tribal tattoo, with my own twist, this Saturday. He was an older man and just loved the style still.)

Although I do tattoo many working class people, usually in well paid skilled jobs, because my services aren't cheap, I think many of you would be surprised at how many customers have middle to upper class backgrounds.

Tattoos aren't for everyone, I love them and find the history, science, techniques and art absolutely fascinating, but I appreciate it isn't as interesting for most!

alienbaby · 14/12/2021 09:00

@nobodysdaughter
I have a question though, were you a tattooist BEFORE it was cool?

Classica · 14/12/2021 10:45

I think the tattoo craze seems to be waning a bit. Young guys don't seem to be going in for those sleeves that were so in fashion a decade ago.

CounsellorTroi · 14/12/2021 10:59

One or two small discreet tasteful tats is fine but I would be put off by someone being covered in them. Just my preference.
