What would you go for?

I think I’d be Indian, so much diversity, southern Indian fish curries, northern vegetarian curries, chaat, parathas, biryianis

Alfonso, why can’t you answer for the whole country of Japan.

I'll do it just after I end war and famine. Gotta take it one step at a time, yanno! Grin

What would fall in the British category?[/quote]
Depend whether you mean traditional or modern British cuisine?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 12/12/2021 19:40

@dropitlikeitsloth

Hmmm I’m unsure 🤣

userxx · 12/12/2021 19:43

Spanish. Hmmmmmm.

caringcarer · 12/12/2021 19:44

Italian. You get to eat pasta and pizzas and not forgetting the gellato.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 12/12/2021 19:45

Indian. I could eat curry every single day.

TheOldRazzleDazzle · 12/12/2021 19:49

Sri Lankan or Thai. I haven’t got bored with eating just Sri Lankan food after a two-week holiday when I’ve eaten just that, so I reckon I’d be fine.

Italian I like, but I can and do get bored with it. Lunch in particular has got monotonous on holidays there - bread, bread, bread, and if you don’t eat meat the same options all the time.

phoenixrosehere · 12/12/2021 19:49

Thai

The vegetables, the herbs, the flavours, the the multiple levels of spice, and so much variety.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 12/12/2021 20:04

Japanese. Although I'm intolerant to yeast and fermented things - including Soy Sauce, so I'd need to get over that first.

Pinkmagic1 · 12/12/2021 20:10

Turkish or Greek

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 12/12/2021 20:19

Been thinking about this a lot. Defo Greek.

Huge variety, from Greek salads to kebabs! Yummmmmmy

steff13 · 12/12/2021 20:20

Mexico or Italy

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 12/12/2021 20:21

Austrian but at a push Greek !

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 12/12/2021 20:33

Thailand (or China)
Loads of variety and delicious.

educatingrati · 12/12/2021 20:39

Winter = UK food can't beat a bit of stodge in the winter
Spring = Moroccan or Lebanese
Summer = Greek
Autumn = French.
Topped off with How the Kiwis do flat whites!

PurpleParrotfish · 12/12/2021 20:41

Indian definitely - a huge diversity of food across the subcontinent and much of it vegetarian.

100problems · 12/12/2021 20:43

Both traditional and modern British.

Whatnopeas · 12/12/2021 20:58

I went to a 5 star hotel in the Seychelles which has one of those buffets that tries to cater to loads of different cultures. I knew I liked Indian food but slightly surprised myself by eating Indian food for lunch and dinner every day. They didn't do an Indian breakfast but I love aloo paratha and dosa so could easily eat that every day.

Greek would be up there too - anything with salads, cheese and fresh herbs.

That said, I'd take the cheating option and say British as we genuinely have access to all this food anyway (if you live in a big enough city). My SIL lived in Italy for years and despite loving the food and she was desparate for a decent Indian /Vietnamese /Chinese etc and they just don't have them in the same way we do. I think that's true of a lot of countries that have more pride than us in their food culture - it leaves less room for others to move in.

reluctantbrit · 12/12/2021 21:22

Thai most likely but very much followed by Italian.

Schnauzersaremyheros · 12/12/2021 22:07

Lebanese, followed by South African purely for the Braais Grin

Mylittlepotofjoy · 12/12/2021 22:29

Italian which is handy as my husband is Italian . So the country is obviously a hit with me Grin

itssarcasmjoan · 12/12/2021 23:05

I'd love to say Thai but following a horrendous experience with constipation following a 3week holiday in Thailand where we didn't eat anything other than Thai I'll play safe and say Italian

elp30 · 12/12/2021 23:10

I wold say "modern British" because it encompasses so many different cuisines within the familiar.

I'm not cheating because I am Mexican-American so "modern British" is different for me. I've eaten Mexican food all of my life so I'm always up for something different. Btw, I'm impressed that so many on here like Mexican food when it's not quite what I would call "Mexican" but "Tex-Mex". Its all good.

groovergirl · 12/12/2021 23:25

Malaysian. Penang curry and green papaya salad drive me crazy. I backpacked around Malaysia for a month and ate absolutely heaps, including the famous Wall 's red bean ice cream, yet the excess weight just fell off me. It's such a healthy cuisine, and I returned to Australia a slender, suntanned goddess. Think I might retire to Penang when the time comes.

powershowerforanhour · 12/12/2021 23:39

Ireland, failing that, Spain or Italy. But there are loads that would be ok. Mmmm food, all the lovely food....
Aren't we lucky that we can try so much of it? A hundred years ago you'd have had to be rich to sample what we can have pretty much when we like ; two hundred years ago, either ridiculously rich or a merchant sailor.
