to think William and Kate's Christmascard this year was badly judged?

So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

I can’t say I mind them or the photo.
Dh worked with him and he was lovely and down to earth.

Jakadaal · 10/12/2021 20:20

Yabu lots of people travelled over the summer. Their destination is their choice along with the droves who decided to ram out the uk south coast.

It's a lovely picture - what did you want them all in little Santa or elves costumes?!

They don't have to share, you don't have to look

CityCommuter · 10/12/2021 20:20

I'm surprised at them tbh! I doubt it was Williams decision as he comes across as considerate of other people from all walks of life... I usually like them as a couple but this would have been Kate's choice - probably with Carol's influence...

Roussette · 10/12/2021 20:21

I'm sure you would all refuse to go on the holidays and live the Royal life style

Yep.
1000%

LuaDipa · 10/12/2021 20:21

@Laiste

I quite like Kate and Will. If we have to have a monarchy i wish we could have them next. But we can't.

However, i would like to see the thought process that went into it choosing that image. Did no one think ''hmmm, lots of folk have been unable to travel this year. P'raps we should just show a nice pic of you lot at home?''.

I feel for them. I remember my kids being small and pictures of both of them sitting still/not scowling/looking in the right direction were few and far between. Cooperative kids AND me and dh also in the pic, I think even now we have only ever managed about three.

I mean, obviously I don’t actually need a decent pic to stick on the front of our family Christmas cards, but the struggle is real.Xmas Wink

BoredZelda · 10/12/2021 20:22

And if they’d done one at home it would be I’ll judged because look at their big house. Or in their garden, oh lucky them to have that outdoor space for lockdown when some people lived twenty to a garden flat. Or…

Wouldn’t matter, someone will always say ill judged and out of touch.

Robin233 · 10/12/2021 20:23

Looks fine to me Wink

Of course, it’s all down to those grubby, grabby social climbing Middleton women. 🙄

LobsterNapkin · 10/12/2021 20:23

I don't love it as a Christmas card, it's too beige for me, but I don't think it's in bad taste. In bad taste would be a photo of them larking around on a yacht or something.

Laiste · 10/12/2021 20:24

Have they still got any dogs?

No one could complain about a nice dog pic.
With a santa hat on :)

Roussette · 10/12/2021 20:25

I do think Lobster this is the equivalent of them larking about on a yacht!

Hot sun in a holiday destination which so many have missed for two years

anon12345678901 · 10/12/2021 20:26

I like it. I don't see the problem with them having a holiday, many people have. I think some people will find anything to complain about with them because they don't like the monarchy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nancydrawn · 10/12/2021 20:26

I am giggling at all the people complaining that it "isn't Christmassy." As if the site where Jesus was baptized and is about 50-odd miles from Bethlehem is "not Christmassy."

Compared, I suppose, to that hotspot of Holy Land travel [checks map]...Norfolk.

Or Will and Kate in gold evening wear laying on chaises longue(s) having grapes dangled into their mouths by half naked servants with tinsel round their heads?
Poetrypatty · 10/12/2021 20:28

William looks like he's done a giant gold poo!

Grin That's probably what the Royals in fact do, that's why we have to pay them to live in palaces.

YetAnotherManicMonday1234 · 10/12/2021 20:28

It’s not that great a photo to be honest. The background looks photoshopped, and they’ve quite clearly photoshopped around Kates waist/bust area (zoom in and see how much sharper the lines are), which she doesn’t need at all. Charlotte’s hair looks shopped too. Again she doesn’t need it.

Nice to se them looking happy. But what on Earth is up with the giant silver ball?

Ylvamoon · 10/12/2021 20:29

I'm not on their Christmas Card list, so I'm not bothered! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Roussette · 10/12/2021 20:31

Nancy I suppose it depends if you're religious? Or not.

For most people Christmas is snow, robins, christmas trees, cold and frost.
Not shorts and gold poos to sit on lol

YetAnotherManicMonday1234 · 10/12/2021 20:31

Actually that ball looks photoshopped. Look nice soft shadows on faces/necks, harsh shadow on the giant ball! Madness.

Amberflames · 10/12/2021 20:31

And yes I’m sure he DEF paid for their holiday with his pilot wages.

He definitely didn’t pay for it with air ambulance pilot wages. They were all donated to charity.

OP are you ok? Are you just really bored or are you actually really miserable in real life? I just can’t imagine ever getting worked up about stuff like this.

Laiste · 10/12/2021 20:31

Its a bauble! He's sitting on a giant gold xmas bauble.

Ted27 · 10/12/2021 20:32

@cosycommuter there has been a fair bit of coverage of William on an official trip to Jordan saying he wanted to come back with his wife and the children, given that she spent part of her childhood there.
Not sure what Carol has to do with it.
So they went abroad, as did many other families.

Sloth66 · 10/12/2021 20:32

A wealthy family enjoying a luxury holiday.
I find them irrelevant frankly.
I’d like a Republic

StellaGibson118 · 10/12/2021 20:33

Honestly, do you all have to be so soul sapping? It's a nice photo. I didn't go on holiday, some of my friends have though, and I couldn't give two shits. They're not a right. I didn't have a single holiday until I was 18 because we couldn't afford to. I wasn't deprived because of that, I was deprived because I lived in poverty 24/7.
