to think William and Kate's Christmascard this year was badly judged?

So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

@callygoballistic

Oh I've just googled Kate and William Christmas Card and it's giving me Terry Wogan vibes (god bless his soul).
Yep me too Grin

I knew there would be a thread about the picture on here. Honestly when I first saw it I thought it was a spoof. Nobody can be this tone deaf. Alas I was wrong.

MaHBroon · 10/12/2021 20:09

It’s a lovely picture and whilst not Christmassy it serves its purpose - it’s a very nice picture of the family to send to people.

Beautiful3 · 10/12/2021 20:09

I think its a nice photo.

gsaoej · 10/12/2021 20:10

It’s a lovely photo but yes I do think they could have used a different background.

Chloemol · 10/12/2021 20:10

Oh go away and get a life

Lots of people have been abroad, the same people who bang on about doing their bit for the climate

Just read the posts on here, I do my bit, I walk, I recycle but by god I am not giving up my holidays abroad

JinglingHellsBells · 10/12/2021 20:10

It was a holiday surely?

Do you not holiday @tinkywinkyshandbag?

Do you feel the same about anyone who takes a plane somewhere?

LOTS of people have gone overseas for holidays lately. So if airmiles bother you, fair enough, but make sure you tell your friends and family how you feel.

I'm not defending the Royals, but I do feel a lot of criticism is hurled their way which wouldn't be directed at friends or family.

IAmHereForTheFood · 10/12/2021 20:10

I see plenty of people during my role and lots of them come in with a tan because they’ve been on holiday.
Not understanding the hate about the picture tbh.

RoseAndRose · 10/12/2021 20:10

It's a nice family group shot

Emerald5hamrock · 10/12/2021 20:11

It isn't a Christmas-y photograph.

My thoughts exactly.

MN has been full to the brim of posts lately regarding holidays and covid restrictions. Hmm.

Laiste · 10/12/2021 20:11

I've just looked again at the pic and had an elderly Aunt moment.

When did Louis get that age?!?! I thought he was still a baby! ConfusedGrin

TheKeatingFive · 10/12/2021 20:13

A don't think it's the photo that's the problem so much as the whole conceit of monarchy.

What are we doing, cooing over holiday photos of a perfectly average, but ridiculously privileged family? Why have we put these people on a pedestal, in this day and age it's really fucking odd.

IncompleteSenten · 10/12/2021 20:14

Kind of funny that people think the royal family even exist in the same reality as the rest of us. They are pampered, pandered to, raised to believe they are so much better than everyone else. The sense of entitlement from the lot of them is staggering. The blokes all shag about like bunnies on viagra and I'm sure the women do too. They've got advisors trying to help them fake a connection to the plebs but it's all bollocks.

I seriously doubt things have changed behind closed doors in hundreds of years.

The sooner the royal family is nothing more than a couple of questions on a GCSE history exam the better.

TheKeatingFive · 10/12/2021 20:15

Concept not conceit

SickAndTiredAgain · 10/12/2021 20:15

I think it’s a nice picture. But an odd choice for Christmas - not that I’m expecting them in Santa hats surrounded by fake snow but iirc last year’s looked a bit autumnal at least.

Poetrypatty · 10/12/2021 20:16

Splayed bare legs whilst sitting atop a gold space hopper
This will not do

Grin Grin

I find them very smug and going on holiday when most of us plebs stayed here for another year just tops it off. Having said that I wouldn't really want a photo of anyone on holiday for a Christmas card, maybe they could have sent a snowy scene of one of their palaces or stately homes.

Thatsplentyjack · 10/12/2021 20:16

Yeah because everyone one of the people on here complaining about it had been born into royalty, I'm sure you would all refuse to go on the holidays and live the Royal life style and go and live amongst the commoners 🤣🤣

viques · 10/12/2021 20:17

@HangingDitch

I think they should’ve gone with something much more miserable. Maybe something taken in Margate in the rain.
Didn’t they have a week in Sark or somewhere in the summer? One of those back to the 1950s island we specialise in around the UK. I bet it rained at least one day.
Newbabynewhouse · 10/12/2021 20:17

Why does louie look 12 already!?

KateInHappyland · 10/12/2021 20:18

Not a fan. It’s not very ‘Christmassy’ and you’re right, it goes against everything the majority have (under official advice) been advised against. Hate the dead animal skin they’re sitting on too. YANBU.

TheKeatingFive · 10/12/2021 20:19

I'm not sure I understand the relevance of this point. The question is whether they should exist as an entity at all.

Roussette · 10/12/2021 20:19

I don;t really care.
They all look fabulous but strange scenario for a Christmas card??

Why not cold, and seasonal?

The kids look lovely. How Charlotte has grown since we last saw her.

William looks like he's done a giant gold poo!

Strange choice, but don't really care.

(More interested in the GM trial and if more will come out)

Ghoulette · 10/12/2021 20:20

They are Royals. They are above everyone else, are treated as such and behave as such. Hardly shocking.

Laiste · 10/12/2021 20:20

We've had a bit of snow. I bet their garden looked lovely in it. A simple snap of that would have been nice.

The idea of a picture of the family as a christmas card feels like something rooted in history. Here we are all still alive, ect.

Did it start in Victorian times?
