to think William and Kate's Christmascard this year was badly judged?

So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

@PriamFarrl EXACTLY.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 10/12/2021 19:59

Yeah. What the fuck is Christmasy about a country in the Middle East……..?

Xmas Grin
gaslady14 · 10/12/2021 19:59

@PriamFarrl Jordan is where Bethlehem is located...

callygoballistic · 10/12/2021 20:00

This has absolutely fuck all to do with anything.

But I remember I had a friend in the 90s who had a family member who was friends with Bette Midler.

Bette Midler's Christmas card was a staged Christmas photo of Better Midler with the Clintons (and maybe some other family I'm not sure. I....just why? Surely Bette Midler is / was famous enough in the 90s to not need to put the Clintons on her card.

HangingDitch · 10/12/2021 20:00

I think they should’ve gone with something much more miserable. Maybe something taken in Margate in the rain.

Puffykins · 10/12/2021 20:00

@gaslady14 I'm pretty certain @PriamFarrl was being sarcastic. Because they know this.

LuluBlakey1 · 10/12/2021 20:00

Disgraceful really- they should have been photographed camping in Whitley Bay in the rain- OP might have found that more acceptable, at least they have a decent human rights record in Whitley Bay and there's a caravan and camping site for them.

FestiveMelts · 10/12/2021 20:01

I like them as a family and the pic itself is nice enough - but it's not the least bit festive. In fact it's a bit of a drab backdrop! Not keen!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 10/12/2021 20:01

Long to reign over us

Sad
Wrink · 10/12/2021 20:02

It’s a gorgeous photo and they look like a sweet family, but it was in extremely poor taste to share their fancy foreign holiday picture at a time when so many of their subjects are in such dire straits.

They can fuck off telling us off about climate change too.

callygoballistic · 10/12/2021 20:02

Oh I've just googled Kate and William Christmas Card and it's giving me Terry Wogan vibes (god bless his soul).

PriamFarrl · 10/12/2021 20:03
@PriamFarrl Jordan is where Bethlehem is located...
I know, I was being ironic about the people saying it wasn’t Christmasy.

Marmitecake · 10/12/2021 20:03

It's not very Christmassy but it's a sweet photo of the family. Just not festive. I am surprised they were in Jordan and my first thought was I wonder if they had to jump through hoops,e.g. covid tests pre visit and post visit, quarantine etc. plus all the other stuff that most people who were lucky enough to travel abroad this year had to do. I'm not sure about the 'free' bit in the OP. Why would it be free? William has his own private income and could more than afford it.

ChiefStockingStuffer · 10/12/2021 20:04

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda

On holiday in Jordan, no less. A country with a pretty shitty human rights record.
Yep
Puffykins · 10/12/2021 20:04

@FestiveMelts it looks like they're at Petra. Which is a wonder of the world and a UNESCO heritage site.

SmellyOldOwls · 10/12/2021 20:05

@PigeonLittle

To save someone a Google

Thank you!

I don't really care tbh, they're wealthy AF and we all know it so why pretend otherwise. Very good looking family aren't they?

Laiste · 10/12/2021 20:05

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

Splayed bare legs whilst sitting atop a gold space hopper.

This will not do.

This made me properly laugh.

and scroll back up to look again.

YABU. Pictures of your own self and your children on an xmas card is pretty naff anyway, tbh. Maybe a loose one inside the card for the grandparents. But who wants to look at a bunch of people on holiday?

Pay an artist to design a card for you, or something.

Waspsarearseholes · 10/12/2021 20:07

Their previous Christmas cards haven't been festive either. They just seem to pick their favourite family photo.

Aderyn21 · 10/12/2021 20:07

I don't really 'get' why anyone would think that a photo of their own family is an appropriate Christmas card. Arrogant much? No one apart from the grandparents is really going to love that - what's wrong with a snowman or Santa, something cheerful and festive?
At the very least William should put some proper trousers on!

Pumasonsatsumas · 10/12/2021 20:07

I love it. What's with the random ball, and the camel saddle things. Also, Louis is hands down my favourite royal. Those eyebrows!

TowandaForever · 10/12/2021 20:08

Is William still a pilot? I thought he'd given that up?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2021 20:08

It's a nice enough family photo, but seems a rare PR miss otherwise for all the reasons already given

Antsgomarching · 10/12/2021 20:08

If no-ones wearing a xmas jumper or a reindeer headband then I don’t want to know.

Laiste · 10/12/2021 20:08

I quite like Kate and Will. If we have to have a monarchy i wish we could have them next. But we can't.

However, i would like to see the thought process that went into it choosing that image. Did no one think ''hmmm, lots of folk have been unable to travel this year. P'raps we should just show a nice pic of you lot at home?''.
