to think William and Kate's Christmascard this year was badly judged?

So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

@JinglingHellsBells no I don't "holiday" because Covid had fucking financially crippled us as a family as it has for many many people

Well it’s for friends and family.
You won’t be getting one. Who cares.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 10/12/2021 20:33

@Laiste

Its a bauble! He's sitting on a giant gold xmas bauble.
Ouch! Where’s the little pokey out metal bit where the hanging ribbon is threaded?
Tal45 · 10/12/2021 20:33

Goodness me Kate is gorgeous. Not very Christmassy though.

astoundedgoat · 10/12/2021 20:33

I don't object photographs being of them abroad doing something cool, but William's only ability in life is his "soft power" and they should be using these trips to reinforce relationships with Commonwealth countries. Jordan seems a bit too much like a jaunt.

DroopyClematis · 10/12/2021 20:34

They're our betters.
We must look up to them.
They were chosen.
We have no right to judge them.

@Nancydrawn

I am giggling at all the people complaining that it "isn't Christmassy." As if the site where Jesus was baptized and is about 50-odd miles from Bethlehem is "not Christmassy."

Compared, I suppose, to that hotspot of Holy Land travel [checks map]...Norfolk.

Love this comment 🤣

What a bunch of sourpusses on this thread, so concerned about the photo not being Christmassy enough but conveniently forgetting it’s meant to be the season of goodwill when making all the bitchy comments.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2021 20:35

feellikeanalien That US congremman's card is almost unbelieveable ... but then I saw it was Kentucky, so makes perfect sense

Theunamedcat · 10/12/2021 20:35

Loads of people managed a holiday my friend took three she would describe her family as working class not Royal not mega rich just hard working should they hang there heads in shame too? Is there family holiday "I'll judged" due to the pandemic

Laiste · 10/12/2021 20:37

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda hmmm. Now you mention it when you look at his ''smile'' it does look a bit ... pained,

herecomesthsun · 10/12/2021 20:37

@CheesyFootballsAreEvil

Just seems a weird choice. Not very christmassy.
Well, Christmas was originally set in the Middle East, with camels etc?
tinkywinkyshandbag · 10/12/2021 20:38

@Amberflames yes thanks I'm fine I'm a pretty jolly person on the whole. I think I'm pissed off though with the whole pandemic shitfest, and the conservatives cavorting themselves has pissed me off even more with their "one rule for us..." mentality. I normally like Wills and Kate I really do! This just felt like another "posh people rubbing the noses of poor people in it" situation. I'll go and drink some wine and watch something happy on TV to take my mind off it.

@StellaGibson118

Honestly, do you all have to be so soul sapping? It's a nice photo. I didn't go on holiday, some of my friends have though, and I couldn't give two shits. They're not a right. I didn't have a single holiday until I was 18 because we couldn't afford to. I wasn't deprived because of that, I was deprived because I lived in poverty 24/7.
Don’t you think that people living in poverty would live in a bit less poverty if we didn’t have such a huge divide between the mega wealthy that we put on a pedestal like this and normal poor people?

I think if I came from poverty I’d be even more pissed off over the royal family existing

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 10/12/2021 20:39

Doesn't seem very festive unless they've turned Rudolph into a rug.

The children are cute though.

daisypond · 10/12/2021 20:39

Yes, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the photo - badly judged in the current situation.

GinGinItsAWonderfulThing · 10/12/2021 20:39

They’d have got it wrong whatever 🙄

I think they look lovely, but must admit would have prefer a Norfolk photo. No reason other than I love Norfolk and wintery photos.

Also, they aren’t they only people who went abroad this year, a lot of the people I know weren’t mega rich either.

Poetrypatty · 10/12/2021 20:40

Would you want a Christmas card which was a photo of this holiday though?

julieca · 10/12/2021 20:40

@ShirleyPhallus

I found their hand positioning on each other’s knee really odd and unnatural

Could do with Kate having a normal smile instead of her OH EVERYTHING IS HILARIOUS! Rictus grin plastered on

I used to quite like them but am finding them so perfect that they’re really predictable and boring now. Wish kate would just get shitfaced or do something vaguely outrageous instead of being so perfect and polished all the time

I agree about the hand positioning. I think it is very posed. A photographer or someone guiding the photos session has thought that Kate and William don't look loving enough, so have guided them to put hands on each other's knees. But it looks very unnatural. I also don't understand why the child on the right is so physically far away. I think it is a very badly posed photo.
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 10/12/2021 20:41

I preferred his dad's effort, FWIW. At least it showed a sense of humour.

Triphazards · 10/12/2021 20:41

I don't appear to be on their list.

CathyorClaire · 10/12/2021 20:42

Yanbu, OP but the royals seem to have lost whatever little they ever possessed of the knack of reading the room so I'm not surprised.

DillDanding · 10/12/2021 20:42

I'd expect nothing less from these entitled scroungers. The forelock tuggers will lap it up regardless.

julieca · 10/12/2021 20:42

Honestly, I am laughing at the idea that a photo taken in Jordan is automatically Christmassy.

3luckystars · 10/12/2021 20:42

I think it’s a lovely photo and the children are really beautiful too. I’d love a card from them!
