To say that there is a huge amount of anti vax threads allowed on mumsnet?

I fully expect this to be taken down but I am getting completely fed up with the number of anti vax and anti mask threads on mumsnet at the moment. People should be allowed to express views but some of the misinformation is shocking.

@Grenlei I haven't called you 'thick'. I'm the person who asked about your reasons - which, obviously, is a question you're free to choose not to reply to; the choice you have in fact made - but I don't think there's anything wrong with asking. This is a Covid discussion board; vaccines are a hot topic. Nobody is forced to go online and say "I am not vaccinated".

I actually agree that blanket statements using rude language (such as calling people 'thick') are inappropriate, and I don't particularly mind if MNHQ deletes them - even if the poster is on my 'side' in the argument. But again and again I see accusations like this levelled against pro-vaccine posters who have not said that another poster is thick!

Innocenta · 12/12/2021 10:54

I don't see the unvaccinated expressing the same sentiments or level of hostility

You are clearly not reading the threads in full, @Grenlei - the hostility and inappropriate comments from anti-vaxxers and 'the unvaccinated' are floridly apparent. The most egregious ones (generally comparing current vaccination programmes and pro-vaccine people to the Holocaust / Nazis) are sometimes deleted.

I am not denying your intelligence. Do you think such comments are defensible?

InexperiencedDogOwner · 12/12/2021 11:38

I personally thought it was the opposite and if anyone dares to question the vaccine they are labelled as "stupid", "uneducated", "idiots" 🙄

And yet within the last few days you have quoted someone who called people thick and said you agreed with them.

I can broadly agree with someone's opinions on an issue, and not concur with the mode of expression. This is hardly groundbreaking.

Obviously, I largely agree with the people on the pro-vaccine 'side'. In no way is this going to surprise you or anyone. But at the level of granular detail, there will also be much disagreement (within the pro-vaccine side) between me and others, re: the best and most appropriate language to use, and what public policy is appropriate, and how exemptions should be handled... and so forth.

For example, I: (1) support mandates; (2) support psychiatric exemptions in rare cases; (3) do not support withholding care from the unvaccinated. These are all major differences of opinion within the pro-vaccine side - but I am still likely to say I largely agree with others on that side, even where we disagree on such (important) specifics.

If I agreed with a part of someones post but thought another part was ‘inappropriate and rude’ as you claim to feel calling someone thick is, I wouldn’t quote that part. Strange that you would quote it when you apparently feel such comments are rude and inappropriate. Hmm

Still not engaging with my points, then.

Get a life OP. This is a chat forum and everyone's opinions are valid. I wish there was a way to stop any Covid thread on here showing up on my active threads page

PlanktonsComputerWife · 12/12/2021 12:51

I am vaxxed and boosted to the eyeballs, and have to wear a mask for my job and commute, but I still find the finger-wagging threads like this easily the most tiresome.
