To think the media strategically leaked the Tory 2020 Xmas gathering...

...just when everyone's Xmas dos are being cancelled?
And surely that means we can't trust the media for actual news reporting? But reporting when they strategically decide to?

I can say that the footage was only given to the media the day before it was released very late on. It then spent a lot of the day in with lawyers checking whether it could be shown and then shown as soon as the ok was given.

Regardless of what happened, the media are dictating peoples emotions, and now their actions with the increased restrictions around the new covid variant. Now people are more likely to rebel and break the rules causing more cases and faster spreading, therefore causing immense pressure on the nhs.
Surely the media don't have people's best interests at heart here? Nor the NHS's who they constantly preach about?
Yes Boris was doing much of the same but the media have caused this, they had the option not to..

I'm saying this should have been reported when it was discovered, not the following Xmas when a new variant is the main concern and getting as many people as possible to survive through it.. surely that's obvious?

I agree that someone knew. But if it was leaked to the media, it's the person leaking it who has chosen the timing (for whatever reason of their own).

I agree wino. And it was infuriating that the radio this morning were interviewing business owners who now have to deal with cancelled bookings and extra costs as if they cared. Some parts of the media are like being in an abusive relationship, one minute “we need plan B NOW!” and the literally the next day pretending they give a shit about the hospitality businesses they’ve just caused harm too. It is the old phase gaslighting- hang on yesterday you guys were calling for this exact thing. What did you think would happen!
I tune out now but luckily for me I can afford to do so, it’s all the pubs and restaurants and theatres etc not to mention school nativities, Christmas fairs cancelled.
I could not care less if every government department had 5 Christmas parties each and 20 quizzes and ate tonnes of cheese 12 months ago.

Of course they manipulate the timing of the news and news itself. News outlets probably knew about it since the day it happened, but it wouldn’t have made much impact on a sunny day in August, now would it?

That's how I see it too. It's far too juicy a story for the media to sit on, I'm sure it's shifting a lot of print copies and attracting advertising to ITV News. Mainstream media (newspapers and TV channels) NEED these stories to stay in business, they've lost far too much revenue over the past few years to digital newbies.

No, someone's been sitting on this, biding their time, choosing the 'best' time - as in best for their personal purposes - to leak it to the press.
