To think the media strategically leaked the Tory 2020 Xmas gathering...

...just when everyone's Xmas dos are being cancelled?
And surely that means we can't trust the media for actual news reporting? But reporting when they strategically decide to?

@PreparationPreparationPrep

If Carrie was posting on this thread, she's probably more likely to have posted at 16:14 Wink

Regularsizedrudy · 09/12/2021 17:44

No shit. Have you never watched the thick of it?

Bessica1970 · 09/12/2021 17:46

I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a few similar stories to run over the next week or two.
Hint at a ‘thing’ let BJ dig himself a big hole - then move in for the killer story.
Next week there will be details of one of the ‘other parties’ that have been hinted at - then probably followed up a couple of days later by pictures of BJ there possibly in a compromising position.

But that’s what the media is there for - to sell their product in a way that gets them maximum revenue/exposure.

Fernando072020 · 09/12/2021 17:50

Very likely the person with the footage was the one waiting for the perfect timing to pass it onto the media.

KrisAkabusi · 09/12/2021 17:56

No media outlet would have sat on this in case they got scooped. It's whoever had the footage that held out until now to leak it.

Fluffster20 · 09/12/2021 19:11

The lesson here is that it doesn’t matter who you are because big brother is always watching. Best to learn to never express any personal views even when you think you’re behind closed doors because chances are somebody is probably watching and waiting for you to slip up.

Usuallyhappycamper · 09/12/2021 19:22

The only reason anyone could potentially have leaked anything is because someone made a video. At the point we were being told to not see our families at Christmas, they were planning an illegal rave in the corridors of power. Doesn't make me feel warm fuzzy thoughts about our gracious leaders.

thebitchisback1998 · 09/12/2021 19:27

For what it's worth here's what I think. The media are ramping up a shit-storm that has not yet even been proven. That woman looked half cut to me, and it all seemed to be a set up (recorded off of a TV screen). If the rest of us now ignore the rules, that makes us no better doesn't it? If they broke the rules, they should be exposed, but until we are in receipt of the investigation results, we should surely follow the new guidance (which lets not forget comes from the scientists, NOT the government). Stay safe people.

NoSuchThing · 09/12/2021 19:38

It isn’t the media that’s been sitting on this story. My guess is a disgruntled former adviser (Barnard Castle anyone?) who has been waiting just over a year to deliver this Christmas present. I reckon this is just the build up, can’t wait for the finale! Happy Christmas Bozza!

Frazzled2207 · 09/12/2021 19:41

@winolady

I'm saying this should have been reported when it was discovered, not the following Xmas when a new variant is the main concern and getting as many people as possible to survive through it.. surely that's obvious?
There is actually a podcast discussing exactly this which is enlightening. Suggest you listen to it. Pippa Crerar and Paul Brand who’ve broken the two stories about the parties talk about it and explain. It’s on bbc sounds and called the media show.
Tinacollada · 09/12/2021 19:42

As well as this, do not tell me that his baby was coincidentally born this morning I.e. was not a planned section....

NO not at all c section bashing, before the brigade come out.

But that's a fucking coincidence and a half if I ever heard of it!!

Tinacollada · 09/12/2021 19:43

"His" as in Boris Johnson's

UthredofBattenberg · 09/12/2021 19:46

I dont think the media have been sitting on it, I dont think they'd run the risk on someone else getting wind of the story and being the first to break the story.

I DO think that whoever's leaked to story to the media has been choosing the best time time to leak it

EvilRingahBitch · 09/12/2021 19:50

Somebody has been sitting on this and waiting for the time when it would be most damaging to Johnson and at a time when he's already looking very weak. But I don't think it's "the media". Someone from Team Rishi perhaps.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/12/2021 19:51

I'm glad this is finally what has got people riled up about the Tories!!! Fucking finally! Janet and Bob who up till now voted Tory are furious!

Zanina · 09/12/2021 19:53

Probably to distract us from the ghislain maxwell trial

I8toys · 09/12/2021 19:53

I'm more concerned with the leakees. They decide when they want it broadcast. It concerns me that they are playing the public. They have footage and release when it suits them. Says a lot about them and the subject.

sirfredfredgeorge · 09/12/2021 19:55

Of course, but whistleblowing is an extremely risky thing for someone to do, whatever their motives, they should never be criticised for doing it, most whistleblowers will have some personal motives for doing it, simply because individuals who genuinely would not be comfortable with the thing their whistleblowing on are not normally in a position to find it out.

thebitchisback1998 · 09/12/2021 20:02

Stir Creamer (as my 90 year-old family member calls him) and his bloody cronies going on about "There was wine! there was cheese!" FFS, if there have been an orgy and a cheeky line of coke or ten, now THAT would be worth the amount of fecking "news" that has been spouted out by the BBC wouldn't it???!!!

ruabon1977 · 09/12/2021 20:18

@DeclareThePenniesOnYourEyes I refer to the Prime Minister as Mr Johnson, as unlike him I respect the office.

I think someone either who used to work in Downing Street or someone else with a grudge or agenda leaked it to the press.

The parties were all reported to lobbyists last November/December but the stories gathered no traction with the media, employees at the DoE were even disciplined. There was too much going on last winter, 1000s dying each week, xmas concerns, the promise of vaccines and perhaps no one could really believe Johnson would be so utterly stupid.

Save that respect for someone more deserving of it @ruabon1977. Like a local binman or especially dedicated lollipop lady. Basically anyone else in public office who actually takes their role seriously, unlike Boris the Bellend.

@winolady

Regardless of what happened, the media are dictating peoples emotions, and now their actions with the increased restrictions around the new covid variant. Now people are more likely to rebel and break the rules causing more cases and faster spreading, therefore causing immense pressure on the nhs. Surely the media don't have people's best interests at heart here? Nor the NHS's who they constantly preach about? Yes Boris was doing much of the same but the media have caused this, they had the option not to..
What makes you think that the outlet that published it has been sitting on it for a year? If that is the case, Who do you think benefits from the story coming out now?

Fuckin hell! thats some mental gym work you've done there!

Boris had the option not to have a party, not lie, to apologise, to appoint decent people.
He also had the choice not to introduce Plan B as a distraction, the review was for the 18th and science hasn't changed on Omicron.

As i said up earlier, these parties were reported on last year, the public weren't interested so they didn't carrie on.

toconclude · 09/12/2021 20:52

@SexyBoris

The media are just vultures shit stirring trying to discredit Mr Johnson and promote rebellion
🙄🙄🙄 Bojo has managed that all on his lonesome...
