AIBU to expect cards by now? Is the post running slow again ? I've posted and delivered mine in the last few days.

I've got 38 cards sat there ready to post but haven't managed to buy the stamps yet. I usually post from work as we can pay for the postage without getting stamps but not been on site and won't be now!

I have had 2 so far from family.

Lysianthus · 09/12/2021 16:29

@SequinsandStiIettos

Hermes must be late delivering their scarves this year Wink Did you see what I did there?
Thank you OP for starting this wonderful thread which has resulted in this outstanding reply!

How many necks do you have? Confused

thegreylady · 09/12/2021 16:42

We have received 5 but not written any yet 🙁

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/12/2021 16:49

I’ve had a card from my Dogs’ Trust ‘adoptee’. Xmas Smile

Benjispruce5 · 09/12/2021 16:50

I’m not sending cards this year. Seems outdated and bad for the planet. I’m going to send a Christmassy text and donate to charity instead.

Benjispruce5 · 09/12/2021 16:51

Plus postage is ridiculous. Not worth it .

gogohm · 09/12/2021 16:56

I haven't written any yet

EssexLioness · 09/12/2021 16:56

I wish Christmas scarves were a thing! As for cards, we don’t get that many but only received two so far. I posted mine today - usually aim for beginning of December but time has run away from me this year!

JuicySatsuma85 · 09/12/2021 16:57

I’m 36 & I don’t send cards & I don’t like getting them. They’re so bad for the environment and most aren’t recyclable because they have glitter or plastic in them.

My Mum always sends a card that literally just say “To X, from Mum”. What’s the point? I’ll see her Christmas Day anyway and it isn’t a heartwarming Christmas message I’ll cherish for years.

Gwenhwyfar · 09/12/2021 16:58

I haven't sent cards for over 10 years.

SlashBeef · 09/12/2021 17:01

I don't send cards at all. My dad is a very keen card sender and will probably be sending his next week I think.

StEval · 09/12/2021 17:02

@Happy1982ish

None and so happy about it!

No much better for the environment
And I would just recycle them immediately and hate Christmas card clutter!

Same here. I havent sent cards for years. Complete waste of time and money plus crap for the environment.
HolidayTime2021 · 09/12/2021 17:03

Not just scarfs- I haven't received any cashmere wrist warmers, fingerless gloves or spa days

Itsokay2020 · 09/12/2021 17:09

I think it’s sad that fewer and fewer cards are being sent! I am in my 40’s and will always send a card to family, friends and colleagues. This year my household also wrote 100 cards for a charity which delivers them to various places - ours will be given to people who are spending Christmas in hospital Xmas Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/12/2021 17:11

It’s a tradition I’m trying to stop. I’m only sending in reply to those I receive. Plus I’ll send to my dc.

So far, received 7, posted 5.

LowlandLucky · 09/12/2021 17:19

ZenNudist Just over 50 and posted 36 cards today and have another pile of 27 to hand out. It is not only the over 70s that send them. I received a card from my great niece today she is 23

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/12/2021 17:28

I love cards! I sent about 20 last week, which is more than usual because some of them I would have passed to people in person, like work colleagues. We have three so far.

mam0918 · 09/12/2021 17:29

My DS gave out cards in person to the 4 kids in his class last week... we don't give cards to anyone else, they are very much child play for primary school only to us.

Rewis · 09/12/2021 17:31

I usually get my cards on Christmas week

Blossom64265 · 09/12/2021 17:35

Most years I make my cards by hand. I have always toyed with the idea of knitting or cross-stitching on the cards. This thread is making me think about knitting tiny scarves. I just have to figure out the full scene, and start soon because I am a slow knitter.

MamDancer · 09/12/2021 17:48

Now there's a card worth keeping! Smile
timestheyarechanging · 09/12/2021 18:33

I've gone none and haven't sent any yet - bought them but not written as I've been ill with Covid and need to buy stamps. Used to get 100s when kids were in primary school and everyone in the class sent one to all the classmates. They're now grown and don't do cards. Many of my friends don't either anymore as we have other means of wishing each other a happy Christmas. I'll send about 20 this year but only expect to get a few from close family 🎄

CulturePigeon · 09/12/2021 18:48

*ZenNudist

I sent send cards. Got one from elderly relative addressed to Mr and Mrs - Husband initial - surname. Which says it all really. Cards are outdated. The only people sending them are in their 70s upwards.*

I'm nowhere near 70 and I send cards and so do my friends! I love a beautiful card more than a present and they are a major part of my decoration. I love them arriving on my doorstep each morning in December - you don't know what your'e missing!!!

Loyaultemelie · 09/12/2021 19:04

I've been trying to break DH of the weird obligation he feels to send hundreds of cards to people we never see nor want to from one year to the next. This year we can't afford it but I will never ever start again. I'm also relieved to see none of the hundreds we seem to receive have arrive yet either so everyone must be in the same boat. I'm happy to message people we know well but friends of long dead relatives seems ridiculous
