AIBU to expect cards by now? Is the post running slow again ? I've posted and delivered mine in the last few days.

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

No scarfs as yet though given what a popular gift they are for women of a certain age I am expecting several this year. I never bloody wear them though 🙄
Try having a December birthday. I've received scarves for both occasions from the same people! In fact, MIL, GMIL and husbands aunt all did that one year.
MrsColon · 09/12/2021 14:30

Maybe people just don't like you that much. I'm wearing at least 10 scarves already, and am expecting more every day.

I'm disappointed people arent sending scarves in the post to everyone instead of cards

toughtoes · 09/12/2021 14:31

My DS has a few CARDS, but not many considering he did write to the whole class. Maybe we just aren't popular or people don't know what to do when they get a Christmas scarf from us Confused

I’ve only gotten one so far.

(Barely keeping me warm Smile)

I kind of expected it though. Last year was so paltry, that this year I didn’t even set up my normal display system when I was putting up the decorations.

I sent mine out. I splurged and did really glorious cards. I don’t care if I am the last person on earth sending them, I am going to keep spreading Christmas cheer through the post.

Also last year on Facebook I made a general plea for addresses from anyone who would like to get a card from me, no matter how tenuous the connection and reciprocation not required, I just love sending cards. Despite my very small friends list, I got a bunch of addresses so clearly not everyone wants this tradition to die.

imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 09/12/2021 14:45

I’ve sent two (overseas), but the rest are written and waiting to be posted because I need stamps. I’ve received four already.
Very disappointed that Christmas scarf sending is not a new trend!

RavingAnnie · 09/12/2021 14:46

Are we meant to send scarves instead of cards now?

This is going to get very expensive.....

Justcallmebebes · 09/12/2021 14:50

I sent send cards. Got one from elderly relative addressed to Mr and Mrs - Husband initial - surname. Which says it all really. Cards are outdated. The only people sending them are in their 70s upwards.

A tad ageist and patronising no? I still send cards and I'm far from my 70's. Not far enough but hey ho.

As for addressing letters to Mr & Mrs (H initial and surname), in my line of work we send out many, many letters everyday addressed like this

TheLeadbetterLife · 09/12/2021 14:51

I'm 40, and I still send cards, and love getting them, even though I get fewer each year. For me, they're a more important part of Christmas than a lot of the other nonsense.

I know they're old-fashioned, but so am I.

Nomorepinkcurtains · 09/12/2021 14:51

We’ve had two in the post, I was thinking this year I’d wait and only post to those that post to us, I’d got it down to 7 last year after a few years of seeing what happens. I like to send a chatty message or email around Christmas instead now as I think that more personal and I’d rather have a nice chat than a card. I’ll have a session driving round a few local friends next week, nice to possibly have a couple of door stop chats.

Mind you the Christmas card hanger looks pretty naff but DH found last years cards in the loft (I normally cut them up for present tags) so maybe I’ll put those up instead. Lol.

Our family are quite good a dodging the postal service and we use my mum who seems to see everyone somehow as our postal service, mind you, she had me writing mine in the middle of November this year.

CounsellorTroi · 09/12/2021 14:53

We’ve only had 2 so far. 2nd class stamps are 66p this year, I know some people think that is too much which is fair enough.

mogschristmascalamity · 09/12/2021 14:53
  1. 3 of which were given to me in person. I think Royal mail is struggling.
girlmom21 · 09/12/2021 14:53

I posted some cards on Saturday and did all the neighbours cards on Sunday. So far we've got 2.
I'm 26, so definitely not in the over 70s category!

I had to go and buy some more for DD's nursery friends (I know!) today so she'll be taking them with her tomorrow

girlmom21 · 09/12/2021 14:54

I also sent a present via Royal Mail last Thursday which got delivered yesterday

Banani · 09/12/2021 14:56

We’ve not had any cards yet, sent mine about a week ago. I’ve delivered most of my presents too so I’m nice and organised too!

muddyford · 09/12/2021 14:56

I'm not anywhere near my 70s and between us, my husband and I send 80-100 cards, posting about 50. It's lovely to receive and send them, especially with people we can't get to see. Ecards are so impersonal; OK as an email-type greeting, but not a replacement for snow, robins, carriages, holly, baubles, Nativity scenes and Christmas trees etc. I posted mine on Monday but won't do the ones by hand for at least another week.

AdaColeman · 09/12/2021 14:58

Think yourself lucky OP, I haven't a single scarf so far, and only one card!

CounsellorTroi · 09/12/2021 15:01

I love getting Christmas cards and putting them up on my Lakeland display scrolls which I’ve had for about 15 years.

Aprilx · 09/12/2021 15:01

Only one card has turned up so far, but it is not for us, it is for the people that lived here before us 15 years ago. The card turns up every year with no return address. I am not expecting to receive any cards and haven’t sent any either.

CovidMakesThingsHarder · 09/12/2021 15:03

Best autocorrect ever!

IAmHereForTheFood · 09/12/2021 15:03

4 received
Posted 19 on Monday.

Postage is extortionate-even for 2nd class. No wonder people are sending less.

Happy1982ish · 09/12/2021 15:04

None and so happy about it!

No much better for the environment
And I would just recycle them immediately and hate Christmas card clutter!

How much are you spending in postage?!
Happy1982ish · 09/12/2021 15:08

Please tell me you’re sending second class at least
Then you’re spending a whopping £660 on postage

And if you do first class £850

Seriously.
