@Happy1982ish

If 50 cards the above is correct

I know stamps are dear but first class stamps are not £8.50 each!!

DoOneBoJo · 09/12/2021 15:33

As for addressing letters to Mr & Mrs (H initial and surname), in my line of work we send out many, many letters everyday addressed like this

Well maybe it's time for a change? It's very very annoying. I do not share my DH's initials/first name. Instead of Mr and Mrs X Smith, what's wrong with Mrs Y Smith & Mr X Smith, or just Mr & Mrs Smith? Confused

We've received about 5 cards OP, I think it's a combination of people not sending them anymore and Royal Mail being completely incompetent.

Give it a few months Grin

My OH used to get a scarf almost every Christmas from a close family member.

We live in the South of France Hmm

1forAll74 · 09/12/2021 15:37

Why would it be a problem,to have only received one card as yet, it is only the 9th December. I only send about 4 or 5 cards now, to family I haven't seen for years. It's all quite expensive to send a lot, with the price of postage stamps now.. I like writing letters, and send letters to some family members during the year to keep in touch.

TenThousandSpoons · 09/12/2021 15:40

I’ve had one from my aunt which arrived in November. And one for the people who lived here before us (14 years ago). But sadly no Christmas scarf.Sad

Tulipomania · 09/12/2021 15:42

I thought the Christmas scarf was another new trend that had passed me by like Elf on the Shelf, Christmas Eve Boxes and Hot Chocolate Stations.

All of which I would be in blissful ignorance of if it wasn't for Mumsnet ...

Otherpeoplesteens · 09/12/2021 15:43

When I first moved to where I live now, Royal Mail had not assigned my entire estate to anybody's route so we only got deliveries when someone put their hand up for overtime. Now that we're officially on a route we still get a couple of deliveries missed every week, although there are times when there's red vans backed up outside because of parcel deliveries.

To add insult to injury, during the pandemic they then changed the last collection time at all the local post boxes to 9am, and have removed the one nearest to us full stop.

Royal Mail can get royally fucked if they ever expect me to pay for their services again unless I absolutely have to. Christmas cards are not in that category.

Chocolatewheatos · 09/12/2021 15:45

Ours won't even get here till next week. So they'll arrive with people by Christmas. It's the only year we're doing it because it's DSs First so we're sending pictures of him out. Just took us longer to get our tree up and get pictures taken than expected 🤷‍♀️ we've received a couple but not posted just hand delivered.

CovidCurious · 09/12/2021 15:48

Ha ha. I have quite a collection of scarves from past Christmases.

As for cards, I've received 6 so far and posted my first batch today (apart from the overseas ones, which went about 10 days ago)

Tilltheend99 · 09/12/2021 15:49

I’ve started getting a few over the past few days. I wouldn’t expect people to send them before 1st of December so just over a week into December seems reasonable to start reviving some.

I’m usually more on top of sending them but have a baby this year so less organised. I do know one or two people that don’t do cards, again mostly because they are busy with kids but most people do them still.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 09/12/2021 15:49

I’ve written and posted 20, mainly elderly relatives. Ds did his class and teachers. Dd is too cool for such nonsense anymore. Have received about 5 so far. The number is definitely getting smaller each year.

As for scarves, ds has requested I make him one having seen a Harry Potter crochet book of mine. I love my ds. He’s the only member of the family who appreciates my talents with yarn 😁

NigellaSeed · 09/12/2021 15:49

I keep opening my mailbox in anticipation and it's always empty. My neck is so very cold...

BoredZelda · 09/12/2021 15:50

I’m in my 20s but grew up giving a card to everyone in my class and it’s a hard habit to kick

I did the same. I’m 47 now and the habit is long since kicked. Pointless waste of money now we are all connected by internet. I only send to people I’m not in contact with on SM.

SequinsandStiIettos · 09/12/2021 15:58

Hermes must be late delivering their scarves this year Wink
Did you see what I did there?

LittleMysSister · 09/12/2021 15:59

I posted some last week, then some just now when I'd replenished the stamps :)

I love doing them so always will, but have to admit we don't get many in return these days, only a handful from family. I have received one from a friend, but majority don't do them anymore. Which I think is a bit mean tbh because they're not for you, they're for the people who receive them, and if you're local you don't even have to post so it's not expensive Confused.

I used to love getting Christmas cards.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 09/12/2021 16:00

None yet, I don't usually start getting them until a week before Christmas.

iloveeverykindofcat · 09/12/2021 16:11

I do a few cards for people in other cities/countries that I won't be seeing face to face, but I am always in two minds about it for environmental reasons. The only one I've done so far is to my friends in the US...I'll think about the UK ones next week!

TheOrigRights · 09/12/2021 16:15

My first was from the milk man.

2nd and 3rd from bookclub friends.

4th and 5th (on the same day) were from first cousin once removed and Aunt. These 2 wonderful women grew up like sisters; only a few months separate them in age, one now lives in England and the other in the US. My heart was warmed by their cards arriving the same day.

5th from immediate neighbour. They like me as WFH and take in their parcels.

I have written none and will only send to people I don't see and close family.

TheMuggleStruggle · 09/12/2021 16:15

Too old fashioned. We do t send or receive any.

Which I'm glad because they just look ugly up.

housemaus · 09/12/2021 16:19

I send cards! I haven't posted mine yet though, late this year. I've had one in the post, which I got on 30th November from a friend who is always first and makes a point of it Grin

Progress2019 · 09/12/2021 16:26

I’m 50, we’ve had five cards. Three addressed to mr&mrs (and I don’t care), one just adressed to me from an Etsy customer saying how happy I made her, and one by a friend who has moved away.

I haven’t sent mine yet but I’ve chosen and ordered them. They’re due to arrive tomorrow. I’ll address my older relatives as Mr & Mrs husbands initial

I like Christmas cards

FatCatThinCat · 09/12/2021 16:27

I hate Christmas cards. They make the place look untidy (well more untidy than usual) and they're a pain the arse to write and send. That's one Christmas tradition I'm glad to see the back of.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 09/12/2021 16:29

Never send any, awful waste of paper.
