To think the Tories have given the middle finger to the people of Britain yet again?

On the BBC News website. Apparently 'dozens' of people attended a Christmas party at no.10 on 18th December last year, when London had just entered tier 3 lockdown rules. Boris, who it's quoted wasn't there, says no rules were broken Hmm

I’m not at all surprised.

But imagine the horror if Corbyn or Starmer had been found out to have had two people over.

EnidFrighten · 02/12/2021 13:35

They very definitely think all the covid rules are nanny state nonsense and take a pride in disregarding them.

CorrBlimeyGG · 02/12/2021 13:51

It's the way they shut down any question, "no rules were broken". They might as well be saying "be quiet, know your place".

LadyWithLapdog · 02/12/2021 13:54

They’ve been showing the middle finger since forever. But come the elections, the electorate will dutifully get them back in again. The right wing press will find someone else to vilify, there’s always someone else worse off than you that you think you’ll never be in that position. It’s depressing and hopeless.

longwayoff · 02/12/2021 13:57

Of course no rules were broken. Bozo doesn't do rules. At all. He makes them up as he goes along, rules for us plebs, and ignores the rest as they don't apply to him. He's very special. Anyone surprised by this hasn't been paying attention.

FOJN · 02/12/2021 13:58

Corbyn was photographed holding a dinner party during lockdown, yes there was "horror". To me it just proves there are lots of people who think the rules don't apply to them.

It is unacceptable for Johnson to claim no rules were broken, that's clearly a lie.

longwayoff · 02/12/2021 13:58

There's a by election today. Bet he doesn't lose a vote.

Yes absolutely this. Also I am the boss and do not need to explain myself to you minions.

I want an answer about this and I am angry that the rule makers may have completely disregarded their own rules whilst the rest of the county dutifully followed along.

I really hope the truth comes out

IpanemaPeaHen · 02/12/2021 14:00

His popularity has plummeted recently. He might not make it to the next election.

I agree. Just mindlessly repeating “no rules were broken no rules were broken” with no real explanation of how that is possible.

Like with the woman who was in their childcare bubble but who came over on Christmas Day - unless she only spent time with their son, and didn’t socialise with Carrie or Boris, then rules were definitely broken. And I don’t think anyone believes that’s what happened. But if their only answer is “no rules were broken” then you’re right, they may as well just say “shut up”.

Do you have any evidence of this?
toolazytothinkofausername · 02/12/2021 14:01

Who cares?!?!?

I prefer to focus on the issues we're currently facing than drag up the past!

NHS waiting lists, they desperately needs dealing with. Giving more funding to schools would also be useful.

privateusername · 02/12/2021 14:03

How does he get away with this?

Are we as a country too law abiding?

Has the media not been reporting enough on matters like this?

Has the opposition not brought these issues to light sufficiently?

Are people just accepting of rules being broken by the prime minister because oh it's Boris?

MedusasBadHairDay · 02/12/2021 14:03

I'm so sick of them, especially knowing that we'd approached that Christmas thinking we could at least see some family and then having to cancel all plans last minute.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/12/2021 14:10

Absolute piss take. Every time you think we’ve hit peak contempt for the common people there’s another outrageous incident.

MorningStarling · 02/12/2021 14:11

I'd be more concerned what he's fucking up now rather than whether there was a party that broke the rules a year ago.

The reason politicians don't lose support for this type of thing is that people care more about what the politicians do for the country than in private. Until the opposition demonstrate they'd be better at running the country voters will forgive minor infringements of "the rules" like a lockdown party or travelling a few miles to ride a bike during lockdown.

Thursdaymiami · 02/12/2021 14:12

Who cares?!
No one really, sadly.

Obsidiansphere · 02/12/2021 14:14

We live in a Tory constituency, majority here must be gluttons for punishment. Not surprised, I've always thought the Tories must find it hilarious that they get voted in by the people they clearly despise.

It very much matters because they aren't going to do anything about these other, more pressing, issues if they can't get the basics right, most wealthy people look down their noses at people not like them and see rules as for the plebs, not for them.

A cabinet of millionaire's don't use the NHS nor state education, they really don't care how many millions are waiting for treatment or how bad our schools have become.

RuggerHug · 02/12/2021 14:23

No rules were broken because rules don't apply to us, that's just good British common sense etc.

TinaWeymouthsBass · 02/12/2021 14:24

My uncle died from covid last Christmas, my aunt was allowed in for his final moments in full PPE but his 3 daughters who he was very close to weren't allowed to say goodbye, meanwhile Johnson and his staff were having drinks and party games.

3scape · 02/12/2021 14:26

They 'iterally don't ever stop taking the piss out of and screeing over the uk. Did you watch their photo op with small business es recently? Posed, turn their backs and walked away. No social niceties or questions. Fuck all. Even the idiots in the royal family can shake together better faux interest than these "leaders".

Everanewbie · 02/12/2021 14:34

Hi OP. I am a life long Tory voter. I agree with their low tax, controlled spending ideas, and feel that they attempt to balance welfare with incentivising work. Especially in recent years I have found the Labour party to be completely unelectable with their anti UK stance on everything, obsession with Isreal and identity politics.

But I'm done. To think that this lot were having parties while police were arresting people for having a walk with a coffee, and benches were being taped off, playgrounds were closed, schools closed, sports cancelled, pubs closed, aisles in supermarkets closed off, i could go on. And Hancock having it off with a colleague while it was illegal to meet my mother.

Absolutely screw you and your covid rules. And I'll never vote for this lot as long as Boris and co. lead.
