To think the Tories have given the middle finger to the people of Britain yet again?

On the BBC News website. Apparently 'dozens' of people attended a Christmas party at no.10 on 18th December last year, when London had just entered tier 3 lockdown rules. Boris, who it's quoted wasn't there, says no rules were broken Hmm

FOJN

"Corbyn was photographed holding a dinner party during lockdown"

It was a wake held outside a cafe in the open air.

DerAlteMann · 02/12/2021 21:20

I really do not care one way or the other. I seriously doubt if they were the only people in the UK who were doing something like this.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 21:26

This is why people don't care.

People only get outraged because they are annoyed they didn't do the same thing.

I don't buy the outrage. Vote for a manifesto that meant change and fairness or .... well, this.

People didn't want tax rises. But look, we have a party that delivered a NI hike.

MynameisWa · 02/12/2021 21:40

@SusieBob it’s a cynical view I know but I don’t believe anyone really cares about anyone else especially anyone who is ambitious enough to be in politics.

I would take a government that is capable of making informed, logical decisions and having the conviction to see them through over anything else. Being a ‘nice’ person really doesn’t come into it.

Can you imagine any good, honest people being in politics with the backlash they get in a daily basis from the public and media? They’d still get a hammering regardless of how honourable they are. You have to be hard as nails to be in politics in order to stand up to the lynch mob. As a consequence only people like Johnson. Trump and Farrage can stand the heat. That’s why we don’t have nice people in power.

This type of pointless scrutiny is a fine example of exactly what we shouldn’t be focusing on. It’s just bitching.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 21:43

Have you seen the backlash from Corbin against Starmer? It's 0. He could take the heat and be fair.

But Johnson was seen as less dangerous.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 21:46

@MynameisWa we had a candidate for good or honest.

People chose to believe the media rubbish over reading the manifesto that was promising.

MynameisWa · 02/12/2021 21:48

@Stellaris22 corbyn could take the heat you are right but to me he didn’t tick the logical box.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 21:57

We can argue over this, but getting angry over Johnson having a Xmas party is pointless when you voted against a manifesto Corbyn could have delivered.

MsJinks · 02/12/2021 21:58

We already know Johnson and crew are blatant in us and them. He really doesn’t think his actions should be questioned, so I’m not surprised he won’t explain even if it was within the rules, nor if it were outside them. I think he should make an attempt to appear as if he tries to be part of the ‘all in it together’ but long past expecting that.

There’s such a huge list of rule breaking, of embarrassing himself/parliament/country that I can’t keep up. But actually what I and everyone should be all over is the social care bill, NHS changes, stripping citizenship with no notice, changes to HRA - these things are massively important and will affect us all for years to come, whereas however distasteful the behaviour on show that is done, gone and won’t affect us for years. We should be interested and shouting about the active politics going on - there is not enough energy in the world to fight the behave yourself and be normal battles right now.

I'm not outraged because "I didn't do the same thing".

I'm outraged because the people who set the rules should follow them. It's pretty straightforward. If they don't it's just more evidence of a bunch of people who have nothing but contempt for the ordinary citizens of this country.

notanothertakeaway · 02/12/2021 22:06

"One rule for the little people, but we do what we like". It enrages me, time and time again

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 22:06

So you thought Tories would follow the rules they tell us to???

Theunamedcat · 02/12/2021 22:06

You would think people would stop voting for them but no literally just had a by election it wasn't even close they got over 500 votes everyone else 200 or less we only had 18% turnout too ive literally never seen or heard of him all the others are out litter picking and sorting stuff out and no-one votes for them WHAT THE FUCK PEOPLE

MynameisWa · 02/12/2021 22:07

@Stellaris22 you have no idea what would have happened if corbyn got in any more than I did when I voted for Johnson. You make a choice and hope it works out. I thought corbyn dangerous. And he may well have been, even more than Johnson.

SusieBob · 02/12/2021 22:08

@Stellaris22

So you thought Tories would follow the rules they tell us to???
I expect them to, yes. That is not the same of thinking they will, but that doesn't mean we should just shrug our shoulders and go "oh Boris, aren't you a prankster" and give his stupid fucking hair a ruffle.
Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 22:08

Why was Corbyn dangerous? Explain.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 22:10

Honestly. I'm seeing outrage at Johnson but little 'oh I might have been wrong voting for him'

PinkiOcelot · 02/12/2021 22:10

Rishi Sunak totally ignored the direct question about whether he attended that party in the news tonight. Blatantly ignored it. Guessing he was there.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2021 22:14

@MynameisWa we are seeing what we voted for with Johnson in charge.

I'd love to see what would happen with a manifesto Corbyn would deliver, but media manipulation won that!

MynameisWa · 02/12/2021 22:15

@Stellaris22 he is way too far left and there is a model in politics called the horseshoe phenomenon whereby if you go far enough to the left and far enough to the right you end up in the same place. I don’t think he kindly, I think he is ruthless.

Sarahlou63 · 02/12/2021 22:20

Anyone want to take odds that by Easter he will have decided to spend more time with his new family and Sunak will be ushered in as party leader? (leading to a massive boost in incontinence pants in the home counties!!)

Hbh17 · 02/12/2021 22:21

This is such a non-story. If they did have a party, well good for them!

StoneofDestiny · 02/12/2021 22:30

They have been sticking fingers up to the electorate for years - so nothing new and the idiots that voted them in will do so again.

Thatldo · 02/12/2021 22:30

@longwayoff

Of course no rules were broken. Bozo doesn't do rules. At all. He makes them up as he goes along, rules for us plebs, and ignores the rest as they don't apply to him. He's very special. Anyone surprised by this hasn't been paying attention.
Boris Johnson is an entitled etonian toff, a populist rightwing idiot like Trump.
fournonblondes · 02/12/2021 22:36

Whatever who cares.
