To think the Tories have given the middle finger to the people of Britain yet again?

On the BBC News website. Apparently 'dozens' of people attended a Christmas party at no.10 on 18th December last year, when London had just entered tier 3 lockdown rules. Boris, who it's quoted wasn't there, says no rules were broken Hmm

privateusername this is a poll of Conservative party members. However, it’s not as if there is anyone remotely competent to replace him. I will try to find the public opinion poll showing his popularity decline.

Nadine Dorries is number 4?! God help us.

At least Priti Patel is low, although somehow still scraping a positive.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/12/2021 16:01

What did Mark Spencer do?! I’ve never heard of him.

ChooChooSan · 02/12/2021 16:01

They are abysmal.

EmpressCixi · 02/12/2021 16:07

I’d need more info because no 10 isn’t just the PMs residence, it is also a government office and government staff would presumably have continued working there through the pandemic as WFH not possible.

If the “Christmas party with dozens attending” were just these office staff enjoying a couple hours socialising instead of working for a work Christmas party, then I have no objection.

The fact Boris was not there indicates this might be the case? Because if it were a true “party” then there would have been lots of people who don’t work at no 10 showing up to socialise and Boris would not have missed the opportunity.

Chely · 02/12/2021 16:10

Part of the MP job description to be a complete arsehole isn't it?

Roominmyhouse · 02/12/2021 16:15

They just really don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves and are probably laughing that they can do what they like and people will still vote for them. It’s depressing.

There were two parties and BJ attended the first of them in November, remarking "how packed it was" both went on past midnight.

He hasn't denied any of this, just that no rules were broken, yet the 2nd party was held when London was under the most severe of restrictions, Tier 3.

If a party was held at Chequers for close family, i d get it but in London, at the height of the pandemic? shows more than a little contempt for us lot, didn't Rees Mogg say that the Conservatives can't catch CV ? or words to that effect.

@toolazytothinkofausername

Who cares?!?!?

I prefer to focus on the issues we're currently facing than drag up the past!

NHS waiting lists, they desperately needs dealing with. Giving more funding to schools would also be useful.

You should care, it's another example of a corrupt government.
EinsteinaGogo · 02/12/2021 16:34

@TinaWeymouthsBass

My uncle died from covid last Christmas, my aunt was allowed in for his final moments in full PPE but his 3 daughters who he was very close to weren't allowed to say goodbye, meanwhile Johnson and his staff were having drinks and party games.

I'm so sorry, that's so awful.

EmpressCixi · 02/12/2021 16:35

@alexander2001
Thank you for reminding me about the first party. That seems to have been the PMs social Christmas party.

Again it still supports that the 2nd party could have simply been the government staff at no10 who would have been working there anyway...really need to know generally who was at the party and when it was.

Media tends to write things very sensationally, but I just need more info before jumping to the fuck the tories conclusion.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 02/12/2021 16:37

@Everanewbie

Hi OP. I am a life long Tory voter. I agree with their low tax, controlled spending ideas, and feel that they attempt to balance welfare with incentivising work. Especially in recent years I have found the Labour party to be completely unelectable with their anti UK stance on everything, obsession with Isreal and identity politics.

But I'm done. To think that this lot were having parties while police were arresting people for having a walk with a coffee, and benches were being taped off, playgrounds were closed, schools closed, sports cancelled, pubs closed, aisles in supermarkets closed off, i could go on. And Hancock having it off with a colleague while it was illegal to meet my mother.

Absolutely screw you and your covid rules. And I'll never vote for this lot as long as Boris and co. lead.

Low tax? Are you having a Giraffe? Even the Thatcher government increased taxes. I cannot believe so many people fall for this Tory lie.

If that was the case they could say so. The fact that they are instead saying "Fuck off you oiks nothing to see" suggests they are lying (again).

Or that there is nothing to see? I don’t trust politicians, but that doesn’t mean I trust the media either. So I’m going to sit on the fence until I get more concrete facts.

Regardless of who was there, for a party to be held in number 10 at a time when the rules explicitly stated that nobody should be mixing is a collosal own goal, and clearly given that everyone has closed ranks over it, it was more than just the housekeeper and the cook having a game of cards.

Why can't they just explain it if there's no wrongdoing (clue - because they are trying to brass it out in the hope no-one can get the truth - and the only reason they'd have to do that if is the truth is injurious). They could have spiffing time complaining about the sensationalisation of the media - but instead they are just saying "shut up, go away"
longwayoff · 02/12/2021 16:54

Maybe there was any eye test chart on the wall? If so, then perfectly reasonable behaviour by all the squinty folk concerned. Forked tongues and dodgy eyesight.

If it were all so innocent, BJ et al would say so, they haven't so the only conclusion is they have something to hide.

Having a party, at no10, when in LD and 1000s dying is somewhat in bad taste and does show a complete lack of judgement, among other things.

Beafaith · 02/12/2021 17:03

If this is true then he needs to stand down. We stuck by the rules and didn't meet with my brother, sil and children and sadly it was to be out last christmas with all of them as sadly my sil passed away in the summer age 38. I'm very very angry at this news.

Grin Forked tongues and dodgy eyesight indeed - this shower are beyond satire.
WoodburnersRUs · 02/12/2021 17:14

I couldnt care less. I didn’t care about Corbyn’s dinner party or Dominic Cummings’ “eye test” or Matt Hancock’s affair. I don’t care. I want everyone on an NHS waiting list to get the care that they contributed to their entire lives. Boris has cheated on his wife, fathered children outside of his marriage and dissembled in other stuff. I don’t care about any of that any more than I care about Jeremy Corbyn’s 2nd divorce or some thing another v senior politician has gone to a LOT of trouble and expense to keep quiet.

I want good policies and for the UK to not be locked down when the economy is on a knife edge. And as a floating voter who accepts that we know much more about Covid now than we did in March 2020, The future action of the ruling government has more impact on my next vote than a random personal Christmas drinks a year ago. I had a lot of neighbours who did that and I don’t judge them either.

SusieBob · 02/12/2021 17:15

"I couldnt care less."

And this is why we have a shower of absolute twats in charge.

What would make you care? You can't see why people might have a bit of a trust issue with the government at the moment?

Kendodd · 02/12/2021 17:22

There's a by election today. Bet he doesn't lose a vote.
I agree.
Frankly, I think Tory voters are just stupid, there's no other explanation for them supporting this lot.

longwayoff · 02/12/2021 17:26

Good Lord woodburners that's a lengthy list you've got for Santa. I hope you've been a good girl and get you wish. No hope of it being fulfilled by this shower of slippery-fingered charlatans and clowns.
