Would you date a binman?

Inspired by another thread about being a binman as a career.

You meet a guy on a night out or OLD. Seems nice enough and nice looking, all good. Tells you he's a binman.

YABU - immediate turn off
YANBU - give him a chance

I wonder if binmen are allowed to wear headphones, on the job (the ones that don't drive).

If so, I think it's a job that would suit me. Now the lorry does the heavy lifting, maybe I actually could be a bin woman one day.

Tiredmum100 · 03/12/2021 19:44

My cousin does and is extremely happy!

Ddot · 03/12/2021 19:45

If he is intelligent and interesting with a nice smile and just that little something that curls your toes. I'd draw the line at a butcher.

Happycamper78 · 03/12/2021 19:53

I work in the waste collection sector and there are some great guys. Hardworking, caring about their crew mates, have time to have hobbies, coach kids football etc. Pay could be better, good holidays and hours. Some move into management. There are much worse jobs out there.

lboogy · 03/12/2021 19:59

It's a no from me. Happy for those that would

lololololollll · 03/12/2021 20:04

@Whingasaurus

Yes anyone but Lawyers and Estate Agents
Is that all lawyers? Weird
AlbaAlba · 03/12/2021 20:06

Many of the men I've dated have had PhDs so you might expect I'd scoff at a bin man, but if he was an intelligent guy with a passion for something, and kind, then I'd want to know him better.

Duchess379 · 03/12/2021 20:18

Yeah, he's got a job 🤷🏼‍♀️

Itsnotover · 03/12/2021 20:19

Bin men get paid well afaik

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 03/12/2021 20:25

As long as I don't have to sniff his gloves after his shift, why not?

myolesmansabinman · 03/12/2021 20:30

Name changed for this as ill get lynched

No. No I wouldn't.

I dont need to explain. We wouldn't be compatible

LouBan · 03/12/2021 21:11

He's still a person and as you say, nice and good looking. His job wouldn't bother me. It's actually a very important job in the community and we should be thankful for them.

Lennybenny · 03/12/2021 21:15

Yes I would. He has a job. A reasonably well paid job with set hours. He could also own his home and drive a nice car and have savings...
Exh was a lazy bugger who did as little as possible so I'd be happy with dating a bin man and I wouldn't be a Karen if my dc decided to be one either. It's called having a steady job with regular income. It's called being responsible and earning money rather than sitting on your bum or working in a job you hate.

misty85 · 03/12/2021 21:16

Amen!! Smile

SallyWD · 03/12/2021 21:16

I'm trying to think if there are any professions that would put me off a man - I wouldn't date a man who worked in an abattoir (or any profession where animals suffer). I also wouldn't date a porn star. A bin man? That's fine.

Fidgetty · 03/12/2021 21:35

No i wouldn't if I'm being honest. It's good honest work and I know a couple of guys who have done it and they're lovely people but no I wouldn't.

Hertsgirl10 · 03/12/2021 21:35

Let me tell you about a bin man years ago… the man was an Adonis he was a thusly unreal, I was lucky enough to have a few moments with him 😂 This post brought back some memories 🤣🤣 I don’t think a single woman on the planet would give a shit what he did for a job.

Buttercup1954 · 03/12/2021 21:36

What's the difference between that and any other job. What a snobbish question. Really? Are you for real?

gamerchick · 03/12/2021 21:37

You laugh in the face of recycling don't you and don't want it known of your slovenly ways Wink
Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 03/12/2021 21:39

My dad did this when he was a single parent to me. The neighbour helped get me up and to school and he was home in time for when I finished school. I always had books and toys because his mates would look out for stuff to send home with him. I loved him being a bin man.

LoveAndBeSilent · 03/12/2021 21:39

My husband is a bin man, decent wage/pension, has grrrreat muscly arms with no boring hours in the gym plus he's home for the afternoon school run every day! What's not to like?

mussymummy · 03/12/2021 21:39

Purely a class thing, a stuck up snob would never date a bin man, no letters after his name. Now if he had an Msc / ba / msc / doctorate in bin mannery that may change their stuck up attitude but doubtful as what would the neighbours say

Moll2020 · 03/12/2021 21:43

What’s wrong with being a bin man? Why does a person’s job have to define them. This has made me cross, I can’t abide snobbery.

EggshellSpreadsheet · 03/12/2021 21:46

No, in all honesty, I wouldn't date a binman if I was looking for a long-term relationship.

Firstly because I'm a night owl, and secondly because a binman's income would restrict the kind of life we had unless I footed the bill for the considerable majority of outgoings.

deerspotting · 03/12/2021 21:48

I'm not in the UK so things are probably different there, I usually did my rounds on my own (driving + emptying bins). It's quite physical compared to most jobs but you get used to it. Being a nurse was so much worse and smellier Grin
