Would you date a binman?

Inspired by another thread about being a binman as a career.

You meet a guy on a night out or OLD. Seems nice enough and nice looking, all good. Tells you he's a binman.

YABU - immediate turn off
YANBU - give him a chance

OP posts:
riceuten · 03/12/2021 18:30

Unless he was a Tory

Wowyouareboring · 03/12/2021 18:31

Yes like why wouldn’t you ?

nancybotwinbloom · 03/12/2021 18:33

God yes there are some very fit bin men on our round

Sinthie · 03/12/2021 18:35

Really??? What a pathetic post. So judgemental 🙄

Shell4429 · 03/12/2021 18:36

My son is a bin man, six feet tall with a six pack and owns his house.

notoldjustpastyoung · 03/12/2021 18:38

Nothing wrong with bin men as long as they have a shower before the date, which I'm, sure they all do. What would we do without them, the are cheerful, dedicated to a job most people would not want to do. It's the person not the job that matters.

Vapeyvapevape · 03/12/2021 18:40

Our bin men are a lovely lot as are all the guys that work at the tip , they are all doing jobs that make our lives easier, it’s hard work and not very pleasant at times . I take my hat off to them and yes I would date one.

chaosmaker · 03/12/2021 18:50

@DonaPatrizia

People can have whatever criteria they want for whom they date, but ruling out on the basis of job or political party is not something I would automatically do without finding out more about the person.

I've never dated a Tory but I probably would if he was intelligent and sincere.

There is a lot of snobbery about occupation in my world. The latest thing seems to be it has become a status symbol to carry on working when you're old!

My DH is 67, plus he has cancer. He worked for decades in a good career and studied at Oxford. He retired a few years ago with a good pension, I still work at a high level job and am very happy he's not working because he looks after me and the house etc.

You would think, all things considered, no-one would feel the need to look down on him because he's retired.

Yet still I have colleagues and friends who make barbed comments about 'what does he do all day?' as if he is a letdown. It gets my goat. I doubt any of them would date a binman!

If he was a tory then he'd have completely incompatible beliefs with my own and that is an important thing to mostly agree on in any relationship!!!!
deerspotting · 03/12/2021 18:50

I've worked as a bin (wo)man and would absolutely date one, physically fit and often good sense of humour for some reason, dedicated and disciplined too

juless77 · 03/12/2021 18:53

Date the bin man ….….what a horrible comment let’s hope they ditch you ……

Iziz · 03/12/2021 18:56

No judgment at all but you shouldn’t for the simple fact that you asked this question or anyone who feels they should take others opinions on the matter if you are asking in general coz it’s not fair on him .

Christinatherabbit · 03/12/2021 19:04

What sort of question even is this 😳

TheRemotePart · 03/12/2021 19:07

@Shell4429 is he single!? Wink

ConkerBonkers · 03/12/2021 19:07

Bin man yes, hedge funder or conservative MP no f-ing way.

TractorAndHeadphones · 03/12/2021 19:11

If you’ve read all the OP’s posts she claims this is a ‘social experiment’ Hmm No actual binmen have been harmed in the writing of this thread.
SouthernFashionista · 03/12/2021 19:18

No. I don’t think we’d have much in common.
Surprised to see I’m in the minority.

CherryRipe1 · 03/12/2021 19:19

Absolutely! I had an ex b/f years ago who was a binman & my daughter's tenant is one. They are both good people, definitely not lazy, loyal and hard working. This is purely anecdotal and don't take as any kind of slur or labelling but interestingly both have dyslexia (& barely go on social media etc) so it's great they found jobs that suit them.

Diva66 · 03/12/2021 19:20

Of course I would, I’m not a snob.

Churromamma · 03/12/2021 19:21

Actually quite fancy the bloke that works at the tip. Sorry “recycling centre” He is always polite and cheerful and helpful. I work with men in finance that are loaded, arrogant, ignorant and disrespectful. No brainer. If he’s a good person that means everything.

amsadandconfused · 03/12/2021 19:21

So apparently this question was a social experiment 🤔Surely the OP would realise that the heading for the post was actually very disrespectful towards any person who is a binman/ woman …the suggestion is ,that they are inferior !! I personally would have absolutely no problem if the guy was kind ,caring and not a Tory voter !

Bleachmycloths · 03/12/2021 19:23

Society is so shitty about people who do really important jobs. If I were told that I couldn’t see my GP for 2 months, I’d manage. Bins not emptied for 2 months? OMG!! Horrendous.

EmotionallyWeird · 03/12/2021 19:23

I would, if I liked his personality.

Yazmindahenn · 03/12/2021 19:27

Are you for real?

I hope this is a completely hypothetical thing, judging someone by the job they do?!

They're a binman, so they're not good enough automatically, you need convincing that they'd be good enough for you to want to date them?

🥴

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 03/12/2021 19:34

Some of them round our way are somewhat good looking so hell yes.

winnieanddaisy · 03/12/2021 19:39

That's a definite NO from me . Not being a snob but as a 6 year old I was sexually assaulted by a stranger . A few weeks later my uncle who was only 14 at the time and was tricked away from me in the woods , recognised him as he was doing his paper round . The man was a bin man . I'm 68 now but am still scared when the bin men come round and won't leave my house when the bin lorry is in my street .
