Would you date a binman?

Inspired by another thread about being a binman as a career.

You meet a guy on a night out or OLD. Seems nice enough and nice looking, all good. Tells you he's a binman.

YABU - immediate turn off
YANBU - give him a chance

OP posts:

The thread the OP refers to is regarding a pp about the posters friend dismissing her sons job choice when he said he wanted to be a binman. Consensus was people would want their children to 'aim higher' than a bin man.

Refuse collectors as they are called nowadays, are hardworking, earn decent wages and work handy hours. I can't see the problem myself.

depremesnil · 02/12/2021 09:32

I wouldn't give you a shot if I were him.

lululu16 · 02/12/2021 09:32

My husband is a bin man so yes

Honeybadger01 · 02/12/2021 09:32

I would definitely give them a chance. I work in waste, managing local authority contracts, and pretty much all of the collection crew loaders and drivers are good guys, great work ethic, good sense of humour and will help out in their local
Communities too or go above and beyond to help people if they think they need it.

Gearedtoyou · 02/12/2021 09:32

Is it just me who's come over all uncessesary at the thought of a nice bin man? Grin

NinaDefoe · 02/12/2021 09:33

Have you ever sat in your car and waited for the bin lorry to move along so you can pass?

If you have then you’ll know that the blokes emptying bins work really hard. Fast pace, strong, physical work, constantly running to keep up with the lorry.

They earn an honest wage
They work hard
They get up early/good time keeping
They have a job

What is not to like?

Hotchocolateandcake · 02/12/2021 09:34

There are some career choices that would put me off, but a bin man isn't one of them.

funinthesun19 · 02/12/2021 09:34

Yes definitely.
Bin men work very hard and have to have a good work ethic. Plus they must be very physically fit.

A man sitting behind a desk is nothing spectacular. Anyone can do that.

Kendoddsdadsdogsdadsdead · 02/12/2021 09:34

What are people talking about refuse collectors as though they are a different class of beings.

Absolutely disgusting.

No, not just you! 🤣
stingofthebutterfly · 02/12/2021 09:36

Absolutely. Amazing guys who do a wonderful job which many others wouldn't. I'd definitely prefer a guy with that work ethic.

ABCDEF1234 · 02/12/2021 09:36

I couldnt - the smell when they returned home isn't something I could cope with. I close the windows when I hear the truck coming so couldn't imagine having someone come into my house that smelt like that. I know I'm an awful person for saying this

NinaDefoe · 02/12/2021 09:36

The question is OP, are you good enough for him?

Chocoqueen · 02/12/2021 09:36

Yes (well not at the moment as I'm happily married so my DH probably wouldn't be too happy about it) but if I was single it wouldn't put me off.

GoodnightGrandma · 02/12/2021 09:37

I never dated people for their job, so yes if I liked him.
I once went out with a guy who plucked chickens 🐓

MsWalterMitty · 02/12/2021 09:37

As long as he showers when he gets in!

Hotchocolateandcake · 02/12/2021 09:37

Definitely agree with others a bin man is likely fit, strong, hardworking, doesn't mind getting dirty, can drive a huge truck, steady reliable job, good working hours.

It's the whole 'men in uniform' thing, isn't it Grin
RedRobyn2021 · 02/12/2021 09:37

Yeah of course

If this is the case, the OP should have given more info. to begin with.

bibop · 02/12/2021 09:39

Yes. It's a job isn't it?

Kippersfortea · 02/12/2021 09:39

@Gearedtoyou

Nope! I'm wondering how to snag one now Blush

GodIsAVegan · 02/12/2021 09:39

Just remembering that bin man who got sacked for kicking the head off a kids snowman.... if it’s him, then no. ⛄️ 😂

gamerchick · 02/12/2021 09:40

It's an essential role isn't it, collecting the bins and driving the gritter lorries, you would have something to say if either of those didn't get done wouldn't you? It's not shit money either. How can you think someone doing a job like that is beneath you ffs? Hmm

Hillarious · 02/12/2021 09:40

They are incredibly fit.

They finish work early enough to do school pick ups.
