Would you date a binman?

TrishM80 · 02/12/2021 09:17

Inspired by another thread about being a binman as a career.

You meet a guy on a night out or OLD. Seems nice enough and nice looking, all good. Tells you he's a binman.

YABU - immediate turn off
YANBU - give him a chance

Marvellousmadness · 02/12/2021 11:33

What a rediculous snob post...

Gearedtoyou · 02/12/2021 11:33

Maybe a better question would be would you want you well educated, middle class daughter to take up with a bin man? Wink

HailAdrian · 02/12/2021 11:34

interesting that many date men who are arrogant, selfish, cheats, narcissists, liars, unreliable etc.

Yes, this. Lawyers, doctors, etc. They are just as likely to fuck off with a woman 20 years younger.

lonelyapple · 02/12/2021 11:34

I'd rather date a binman than an accountant, banker or solicitor!

Progress2019 · 02/12/2021 11:34

Our bin men are lovely. They’re always laughing, often singing, and genuinely seem to enjoy their job, and each other’s company. They’re like a breath of fresh air down our road on a Friday morning, even if the lorry smells a bit.

MoonRiverLaLaLa · 02/12/2021 11:34

That depends on who you are.
A doctor dating a binman? Hell no.
A cashier dating a binman? Sure, why not.

People need to be approximately on the same social level to be a good match, whether you like it or not.

girlmom21 · 02/12/2021 11:34

@TomelettewithGreggs

I have been married 24 years.

Women on this thread should be more open minded and consider men who are not "hot" or " nice looking"..Ugly men deserve dates too 🙂

People find different things attractive. Your 'ugly' could be my 'handsome'.

People who I find ugly get dates too...

HailAdrian · 02/12/2021 11:35

Has someone said binmen are ugly?

😆😆

This is completely untrue.
Glassofshloer · 02/12/2021 11:36

Fgs class, again 🙄

Why is everyone on here so obsessed with it while also claiming to be open minded, left leaning, down to earth and intelligent

Desperately trying to be seen as middle class or whatever is actually a hallmark of a non-classy person. All the genuinely ‘posh’ people I know don’t care one iota what others think of them, and are most likely to be found in B&M.

Why not? Confused

There are weird fucking posts on here!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 02/12/2021 11:37

@ABCDEF1234

I couldnt - the smell when they returned home isn't something I could cope with. I close the windows when I hear the truck coming so couldn't imagine having someone come into my house that smelt like that. I know I'm an awful person for saying this
I'm with you.
Progress2019 · 02/12/2021 11:39

@Gearedtoyou

I would. I’ve got two well educated or currently being educated daughters in their 20s. I would far, far rather they dated a bin man than someone who worked in sales, and used words like myself and yourself all the time (when me or you would do) We all have our prejudices and this is mine.
TheChild · 02/12/2021 11:39

Wouldn't bother me. If I was attracted to him and he seemed a nice person I wouldn't be bothered by what their job was.

What a crock of shit Hmm

Honestly some of the comments on here. Eyes rolling right out me head.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 02/12/2021 11:39

You can bet these 'binmen' are getting a fuck load more money than some of the 'middle class' EDUCATED men some people desire for themselves or their daughters.

This is just like the snobbery from some (wannabe) middle class/uni educated people towards builders and contractors (electricians/ bricklayers/plumbers etc.) Some people look down their nose at these 'blue collar' workers, but they are laughing at you, because they earn WAY more than you. Grin

Fruitinator · 02/12/2021 11:40

Interesting reading peoples views- My DP was a Binman for a while, one of our friends also worked at the local tip.

Some peoples pre-conceptions are really interesting, and I can understand that. DP didn't smell, hours and pay were very good. DP is educated to masters level in a technical subject.

The majority of his former colleagues were a really diverse and interesting bunch, most of them (including DP) had a side hustle. Some also drive snow plough's, gritter trucks and road sweepers, which can also be quite over looked as a frontline service. High-vis Heroes!

Gearedtoyou · 02/12/2021 11:40

Because it's a TAAT

julieca · 02/12/2021 11:40

Oh no! What would the neighbours think!!

Ffs - and yes it is a sought after job.

TomelettewithGreggs · 02/12/2021 11:40

@girlmom21 Exactly my point. People find different things attractive. As they should. Except on this thread...

TheCatWearsPrada · 02/12/2021 11:41

@MoonRiverLaLaLa could you explain why?

MoonRiverLaLaLa · 02/12/2021 11:41

This is completely untrue.

Sorry if you don't like it, but it's reality.

DillonPanthersTexas · 02/12/2021 11:42

This is Mumsnet where most posters seem to be graduate chartered professionals on six figure salaries with partners on even more. Like champagne socialists opining at dinner parties on the plight of the poor they would not actually like to have any such folk as neighbours. I imagine for the middle class types here there is some similar virtue signalling going on with regards to dating a binman.

KosherDill · 02/12/2021 11:43

@HailAdrian

Of course! A. Has a job B. Capable of dragging self out of bed early C. Hopefully somewhat physically fit
Exactly!
