Inspired by another thread about being a binman as a career.

You meet a guy on a night out or OLD. Seems nice enough and nice looking, all good. Tells you he's a binman.

YABU - immediate turn off
YANBU - give him a chance

All the genuinely ‘posh’ people I know don’t care one iota what others think of them, and are most likely to be found in B&M.

Name one posh person dating a binman Grin

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/12/2021 11:45

If I met him in RL and we were getting on, absolutely

On OLD probably not because have to filter it somehow

StellaGibson118 · 02/12/2021 11:45

I date people based on if they are a decent person, not what job they do or how much money they earn. This sort of shit is why men say we are money grabbers.

Soontobegrandma · 02/12/2021 11:47

Rather an honest bin man than a corrupt, dishonest, cheating (insert any other profession).

One of my very posh friends is currently dating a gas engineer & loving it.

@MoonRiverLaLaLa oh i see now and based on that i can also see that your perfect match would be hyacinth bucket

Genuinely posh people would be disiheritied for marrying a binman Grin
Missey85 · 02/12/2021 11:48

So many snobs on this thread! I'd rather date a Binman than most guys at least they have a steady job I'd rather date that than some rich mummies boy

fakereview · 02/12/2021 11:49

@Gearedtoyou

Maybe a better question would be would you want you well educated, middle class daughter to take up with a bin man? Wink
If he was kind, articulate and was likely to be a decent dad, yes.

Much more important than marrying for money. So many women on here seem to procreate with men who are useless in other ways and then come on here to whinge. Or live in a gilded cage - plenty of money but no love or affection.

I think it’s why a lot of women are single & panicking in their late 30s. They see their mediocre degrees & glorified office jobs as putting them above anyone in a blue collar job 🤷🏼‍♀️
lockitdown · 02/12/2021 11:50

@MoonRiverLaLaLa

That depends on who you are. A doctor dating a binman? Hell no. A cashier dating a binman? Sure, why not.

People need to be approximately on the same social level to be a good match, whether you like it or not.

er, why not a doctor dating a binman?
Glassofshloer · 02/12/2021 11:51

Noooo that’s a middle class neurotic attitude.

Again, that post assume that people are doing certain jobs because those jobs are the limit of their intellectual capability. Doesn't one of Xenia's sons drive a van? Because he wants to. He's intellectually capable of having a "better" job but doesn't want to. My DH went to Oxford and has often expressed an interest in being a postman. Money isn't everything.

lifeinlimbo2020 · 02/12/2021 11:53

@Kendoddsdadsdogsdadsdead

Binman yes. Tory no.
Haha. Bin man yes. MP no.
fakereview · 02/12/2021 11:53

@Birdsnesting

Sorry I know they do a great job and someone’s got to do it, but I’ve never liked men with dirty finger nails.

They do wash after their shift, you know. The only binman I knew well is my FiL, now retired, and he was and is the most scrupulously clean man.

Where I live they are all wheelie bins these days so they are not handling the actual rubbish. And surely they wear gloves?
lockitdown · 02/12/2021 11:57

Actually, in the early days when I first met my then bin-man husband, we didn't need to be on the same social level at all as I as the one that had the money. I wasn't bothered how much he had.

Veeveeoxox · 02/12/2021 11:57

Yes if employed by the council short hours work finishes when you finish the round so if you do it quickly you finish work early good pension secure job and can help out more with the children.

Gearedtoyou · 02/12/2021 11:59

They're supposed to wear gloves (H&S) but a lot of them don't. They say it gives them cramp?

Glassofshloer · 02/12/2021 12:00

I have nothing to say bar

😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

IncompleteSenten · 02/12/2021 12:01

Of course.
Why would anyone judge someone who was doing honest work? Crooks I would avoid. Someone doing what is a pretty bloody essential job? Only a twat would look down their nose at that.

IncompleteSenten · 02/12/2021 12:04

Bollocks do people need to be on the same social level 🙄
What you need to have in common are your core values.

This thread Grin
Bin man is a good job!
Well paid, good hours.
Hard graft though.

I know a bin man who is also a fireman.... wouldn't say no to that would you OP?!

sonypony · 02/12/2021 12:10

Give him a chance? Hmm what's wrong with being a bin man? It would never have crossed my mind to put that job in the list of considerations in dating someone or not to me. I would be happy for my children to become steadily employed as a bin man in adulthood. I believe the pension is decent and not awful hours either. The bin men round our way are lovely and always wave to the kids.

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 02/12/2021 12:10

You meet a woman on a night out. Turns out she’s a stuck up snob that thinks shes above everyone else.
