Just been kicked out of a group for objecting to being referred to as my reproductive organs

Group on Facebook. I was referred to as a “uterus owner”. I objected to this. I’m now banned from the group for being transphobic. Everyone piled on me and if I wasn’t kicked out I would have been leaving anyway. I don’t care what other people want to be called but I will not be referred to as my reproductive organs!! It’s not transphobic to want to be referred to as a woman if you were in fact born female and wish to remain a woman? surely?? Or AIBU?

Haven't RTFT but urgh. As well as everything else, I don't like the idea that we are "owners" of our body parts, and personally I don't even like the anatomy-textbook, American-inflected "uterus" instead of womb. It all suggests a slightly disgusted detachment from ourselves.

So much of the world is designed around men (as documented by Caroline Criado Perez).

WITS Ireland (women in technology and science) last year issued a grovelling apology because they chose this as their book club read and got lambasted for it.

So instead they decided to have a slagging off session where they could rip her work to shreds, discuss how those women were actually really privileged, and how they should all be centering ladydick.

When was the last time anything focused on being more accessible to those with disabilities, or who had English as an additional language. Wheres the focus on ensuring diversity and that people are aware of how things affect people from.ethnic minorities or learning difficulties.

I think we need to make more of a fuss about this. The consequences
of this unclear language is potentially much more serious than the hurt feelings it’s designed to prevent.

That group was not a womens with vulva group. So it's no surprise that the group would object to a book about how design and research fail the female body.

The worse thing is the only reason groups like this even get to virtue signal this way is because someone else has done the dirty work for them and explained to the people attending what a man and woman is and what that means about their bodies. Can u imagine if no one genuinely no one knew what male/female man/woman meant and what a uterus owner was? The group leaders what have to start from scratch and explain first before they could do anything else. Or most likely as what happens with said people qotg learning difficulties and little English they would just not attend because they would have no idea it applied to then.

They hate us, they boot out people like the op yet they simultaneously need us

FurrFeather · 02/12/2021 12:47

Not read all of the thread, but it’s clearly MENTAL stuff. I am not a uterus owner, what a ridiculous description. I am a WOMAN! It’s very simple. I won’t be reduced to a medical body part either. Being a woman is a “whole” experience of being. PS. Medical fact 1 - only a woman has a real biological womb/uterus to give birth.

How ironic that the trans lobby demand to be called what THEY self-identify as - but for me to “self identify as a woman” is objectionable for some reason.

FurrFeather · 02/12/2021 12:49

I mean self-identify as a woman when I am actually a woman biologically.

A gently persisted with campaign has moved 'inclusion' and 'equality' to meaning only one characteristic, not nine as there are protected in law. The other eight are openly derided, denied and subordinated if mentioned.

It's like LGBT+ has been gently moved to meaning 'agrees with a political position' and nothing to do with sexual orientation, excluding LGBT+ people who hold other views.

Pernicious is an interesting word.

@MrsBison

Do you guys actually believe a woman was referred to as uterus owner on a facebook group....?

You're either smart and using gullable people's fear/ignorance for your own cause; or you are the gullable person who actually believes it.

As I told the last person who asked that question: I've been called a bleeder, cervix haver and person assigned female at birth, all without seeking it out or belonging to women-only groups, so yes, I believe it.

What's less believable is the number of people with overtly female names who come on to a woman-centred website to tell us how wrong and stupid we are about everything...Mrs.

Having had similar comments said to me in various real-life groups, yes.

Having read the responses from various organizations defending using such terms, yes.

Having read many mainstream media articles about it, yes.

Having read many healthcare leaflets using similar language, yes.

Having read various political party's definition of women, yes.

Now tell me why you are so determined to ignore all the specific instances broadcast across mainstream media alone?

I know this OP was about groups, but I was thinking more of healthcare information in writing, e.g. information leaflets and invitations for cervical screening tests or mammograms.

My last cervical screening invitation used the term “women and people with a cervix”. While this is much better than merely “people with a cervix”, it does confusingly imply either that women aren’t people or that women don’t have cervices. Perhaps, “women and other people with a cervix” would be the best compromise.

334bu · 02/12/2021 13:39

This thread is obviously made-up just to permit more trans hate. Its ironic how mumsnet removes threads for minor statements, but will allow anything transhate.

Ever heard of the phrase " Believe Women" or are you just one of these people who , whenever women complain about the abuse they endure, always says " it didn't happen"

Do better!

Yes, would certainly be a bit clearer.

How do you ensure that people with a cervix are aware they have a cervix. I mean it implies there is another group of people who have a cervix but don't explain who that group of people are. Is there a name for them?

Bear in mind that anyone registered male at their gp won't ve called fir testing. So if they were to come across literature about cervical cancer they would still have mo idea it applied to them.

Again only even.possinle cos someone down the line is prepared to be the " bad guy" and explain reality

Does anyone think that^ transmen and 'nonbinary' females really^ don't know full well that health information relating to women isn't also very likely applicable to them?
ErrolTheDragon · 02/12/2021 14:16

Sorry, italics markup fail there.

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/12/2021 14:23

Of course they do. Yet many explicitly expect us to play along even when doing the most female thing possible such as having a baby.

All at the expense of poorly educated women. Those with Lds and EAL. Isn't the average reading age something like 12?

It shouldn't be ok to confuse these women who are incredibly vulnerable amd need plain English they can understand.

To be a transman or even a non binary person, you will be fully aware of the sex you were born, otherwise you won't know what sex you are not identifying with. So of course they will know what health info refers to them.( AKA all the stuff that is relevant to women)
