I have been watching the Beatles documentary and got to thinking about her.

She was in the papers constantly in the 2000s, I remember her being painted as an absolute con artist witch. I googled a few articles about her from the time of the divorce. They are brutal in the misogynistic tone, she’s labelled as a slag, a goer, ex prostitute, you name it.

I don’t think papers write about women in such hash terms anymore. Maybe she was a bit of a twat, whoever married Saint Paul would have suffered at that time I think.

I suppose by AIBU is are the press less misogynistic.

It’s easy to ascribe any lyrics any way that fits a narrative. They did have other relationships and other things going on in their life.

EYProvider · 08/12/2021 10:23

The lyrics in Starting Over can only be about Paul:

  1. His band was Wings (obviously).
  2. He wrote a song called Another Day.
  3. He wrote a song called My Love.

Anyway, Elvis was their thing - John and Paul’s. Why would she be interested in a song like that?

The other song he wrote which was unambiguously about Paul/for Paul (apart from Jealous Guy, which Paul has confirmed was about him) was I Know. But they both wrote songs to and about each other throughout the 70’s - Paul has also confirmed this.

I don’t know what the truth is about John and Paul’s relationship. I do know that everyone who has read John diaries from 1975-1980 says they were all about Paul.

LoveMySituation · 08/12/2021 11:46

Dear Friend is another one Paul says is about John. 'I'm in love with a friend of mine' on the first Wings album Wildlife, and Here Today from Tug of War. 'And if I said I really loved you and was glad you came along' Makes me cry, when it comes on late at night

It’s very sad for him, very tragic:

Poor guy. I know he’s got billions and that he has a close family and all the rest of it, but he’s still been left with a very heavy burden to carry.

Practicebeingpatient · 08/12/2021 15:04

I remember her well. She seemed a bit of a nightmare.

However I think the press are just as misogynistic nowadays.

LoveMySituation · 08/12/2021 15:08

Yes, how he manages to regularly sing that live, not sure I could. And it's today, hopefully Nancy's with him

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 08/12/2021 17:30

Something really sad about that clip. His voice has gone and there is a lot of background noise , like no one is listening. It’s full of pathos.

EYProvider · 08/12/2021 17:50

The background noise is because it’s a video that’s been filmed by someone in the audience at a concert where there were thousands of people.

It’s full of pathos because he breaks down crying in the middle of it. That’s why his voice is gone.

I thought it was obvious but maybe not.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 08/12/2021 19:05

Yes I realised that. His voice has been gone for some years now!!

EYProvider · 08/12/2021 19:22

That’s what you took from the clip? That it’s sad because his voice has deteriorated?

He’s nearly 80. He was 67 in that video. He’s spent half life belting out Little Richard numbers. What do you expect?

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 08/12/2021 19:24

No that’s not what I meant.

LoveMySituation · 08/12/2021 21:06

Ringo's sent John peace and loveGrin

LoveMySituation · 08/12/2021 21:08

But no brocoli emoji!

I'm finally on episode two of Get Back. Seeing Paul tearing up as they talk about George leaving is very moving. And seeing them joking around, and playing all the old Hamburg songs is great, feels much better than Let it be. And seeing them actually recording the takes that ended up on the album, after 30 years of just hearing it is brilliant

Yes it’s just fabulous, isn’t it?
LoveMySituation · 15/12/2021 00:27

They all look like they're not sleeping much though. And that secretly recorded convo in the cafeteria between John and Paul was illuminating

ClaudiaJ1 · 17/12/2021 13:54

@EYProvider

The Church of Satan was peripherally linked to the Manson murders through Kenneth Anger.

John and Yoko were living in the apartment where Rosemary’s Baby was filmed. Yoko was obsessed with the occult and her life revolved around voodoo, hypnotism, tarot, numerology, astrology and heroin.

@EYProvider They lived in the same apartment building where Rosemary's Baby was filmed. They didn't live in the actual apartment. The Dakota has famous, rich people and producers who live in the building. Are they all Satanists? You are making up lies. You're adding 2+2 and getting 17.
ClaudiaJ1 · 17/12/2021 13:57

@EYProvider

Meanwhile, John was obsessed with the idea that (1) he was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, and (2) he would be assassinated.
@EYProvider He made a throwaway comment about being bigger than Jesus, once. He wasn't serious.

ALL famous people are convinced they'll be assassinated. It means nothing.

Once again, you are adding 2+2 and getting 17, instead of 4.

Also John was very close to Sam so clearly wanted him in the will himself.

EYProvider · 17/12/2021 14:07

You need to do a bit more research, @ClaudiaJ1. They most certainly did live in the same apartment.

Also, if you think Sam Green’s inclusion in John’s will was innocent, you are very naive.

EYProvider · 17/12/2021 14:10

By the way, John actually thought he was Jesus Christ. He came back from the trip to New York with Paul, went on a 48 hour bender, called a meeting to announce he was Jesus and then shacked up with his stalker (who just happened to be with Roman Polanski on the first day they met). He was never the same from that day forward.

ClaudiaJ1 · 17/12/2021 14:12

I have. They most certainly did NOT live in the same apartment. That has been DEBUNKED many times. You need to do your research because you are misinformed.

I think if you truly believe Sam Green's inclusion in the will isn't because JL wanted him in there, you are naive and very susceptible to being brainwashed by conspiracist lies.

He made ONE comment when he was on a bender. It doesn't mean he TRULY thought he was Jesus Christ, @EYProvider . You are again taking a 2+2 statement and and getting 17.
ClaudiaJ1 · 17/12/2021 14:18

Anyway I should have known better than try to reason with a conspiracy theorist. I'm hiding this thread.

EYProvider · 17/12/2021 14:25

You do that. You obviously know nothing about John Lennon.

One comment? He modelled himself on Jesus throughout 1969. His obsession with assassination had started earlier than that, but even then he was begging to be shot. For God’s sake, the opening of Come Together is ‘Shoot me’.

All this is well documented, so I don’t know which bit of it is a conspiracy. Sorry if it shatters your fantasies about the Ballad.

EYProvider · 17/12/2021 14:28

And no, I don’t believe that Sam Green’s inclusion in John Lennon’s will was innocent. Sam Green was a known hustler who had form for shacking up with women like Ono (rich, gullible, bored). John Lennon was a billionaire in today’s money.

You can believe what you want. I was not born yesterday.
