Do you remember Heather Mills?

I have been watching the Beatles documentary and got to thinking about her.

She was in the papers constantly in the 2000s, I remember her being painted as an absolute con artist witch. I googled a few articles about her from the time of the divorce. They are brutal in the misogynistic tone, she’s labelled as a slag, a goer, ex prostitute, you name it.

I don’t think papers write about women in such hash terms anymore. Maybe she was a bit of a twat, whoever married Saint Paul would have suffered at that time I think.

I suppose by AIBU is are the press less misogynistic.

@EYProvider

He didn’t write his will, Elvish. She did.

He had already given her a power of attorney by then, but he was barely functional.

I’m not sure he was “barely functional” @EYProvider. ‘Watching the Wheels’, ‘I’m Moving On’ and ‘Cleanup Time’ are all some of the greatest work of his solo career and were written and recorded only a few months before his death.
EYProvider · 30/11/2021 19:21

I am not making this up, Elvish. They didn’t live in the UK, did they, so UK law did not apply.

Look up the will - it’s on the internet. There might even be a paragraph in that that refers to her having power of attorney. She definitely did.

I agree @YokoOnosHat, he was functional some of the time and especially at the end. The rest of the time, he was half dead.

TheElvishQueen · 30/11/2021 19:23

Did you know him personally? POA cannot take over unless a doctor has certified incapacity. In theUS too I’m sure. Otherwise there would be massive abuses all over the place would nt there?

UniversalAunt · 30/11/2021 19:38

From hazy recall of an interview with PMc about how down to Earth they were despite the massive assets - Linda handwashed his shirts.

WTF!

EYProvider · 30/11/2021 19:43

Why don’t you look it up, Elvish? John Green, Yoko’s tarot card reader talks about the power of attorney extensively in his book (he tried and failed to persuade John not to sign it), but John also spoke about in several interviews. Plus, the will is on the internet.

Look it up before you dismiss it out of hand. How else will you know for sure?

MobMoll · 30/11/2021 19:47

I do remember her being treated horribly. She wasn’t very likeable but still it was really unreasonable and unkind. I don’t like Paul McCartney either.

EYProvider · 30/11/2021 19:47

Regarding the ‘massive abuses’ - like writing your lover (who has already been implicated in the mysterious death of one billionaire heiress) into your the will of your depressed, drug addled, vulnerable spouse?

EXACTLY.

@Classica

This is Fiona Shackleton after Heather had chucked the jug of water over her head. I can't imagine being that angry after a settlement of £20m.

(Not the point at all, but her hair looks so much better de-pouffed.)

She looks at least 15 years younger and no so Camilla Parker Bowles
EightWheelGirl · 30/11/2021 19:52

@user1471457751

She assaulted her husband's divorce barrister by throwing water over her. Apparently over £20m wasn't enough for her
Yes, I think much of the bad publicity was from her seemingly feeling entitled to many millions of £££. Whether it was exaggerated I don’t know but she certainly did well from PMs success.
LizzieSiddal · 30/11/2021 20:51

You really don't know what you’re talking about. In the US and UK, millions of adults, including husbands and wives, have documents in place to have power of Attorney over each other. As a PP said it can only come into action if a Dr verified the person has no mental capacity to organise their affairs, and then you have to go to court for them to ok you taking over their affairs. Show me the document where it says John Lennon was mentally incapacitated so much that his wife was able to get the Power Of Attorney actioned.

I personally have POA for my DH, my BIL, my mum and my PIL. However NONE of them are in action as they are all healthy and have mental capacity.

Yes this is what I keep saying. Thank you.
julieca · 30/11/2021 21:04

I have POA for my DH. It is sensible. I still have to go to court to get it ratified if he was say knocked down and in a coma. Its really no more of an issue than having made a will.

EYProvider · 30/11/2021 21:15

I assume you don’t have John Lennon’s billions, Elvish? Anyway, here you go:

When I read the thread I remember the name but couldn’t remember why

LizzieSiddal · 30/11/2021 21:31

So you have based your knowledge of Power Of Attornies from a Tarot Card Reader? That explains a lot. Grin

beguilingeyes · 30/11/2021 21:43

I remember when they got together she claimed that she didn't know who he was when they got together ?!?!?!?
That rang alarm bells straight away.

EYProvider · 30/11/2021 21:45

Do you work for the Estate, @LizzieSiddal?

What’s up? Frightened that someone might put 2 and 2 together about Sam Green, Yoko and John’s will?

EightWheelGirl · 30/11/2021 21:46

I'm not sure she has a leg to stand on with ridiculous claims like not knowing who he was. Clearly bullshit IMO.

EYProvider · 30/11/2021 21:49

And if we’re going down that rabbit hole, I’d also like to know where Mark David Chapman - a fucking part time security guard - got the money to buy a NORMAN ROCKWELL PAINTING.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2021 21:50

This thread. You get asked if you remember Heather Mills then two days later you’re being told to read John Lennon’s will. Grin

Yes, we have rather gone off topic. I did follow the link to it though 😂
Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2021 21:57

Heather will be furious that she is no longer the centre of attention on the thread surely.

EYProvider · 30/11/2021 21:58

With any luck, it might get picked up by the Daily Mail, @Sparklingbrook.

People might finally start asking some questions about what the hell happened to John. Who knew what and when, and I include John himself in that.

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2021 22:00

Sounds like a whole other thread TBH. But not sure how MNHQ would work out fact from fiction.
